1.
Indeed, I also remember doing sessions with Dick Turpin.
Was that on his famous hit 'Stand And Deliver', covered by Adam Ant many years later?
2.
I scorn your god Google and rely solely on rumour and overheard goss...
You are clearly my wife in disguise, and I claim my £5.
3.
https://groups.googl...the-bottom-line It would appear that I am older than I think. I thought everyone with a hint of bass geekery knew about it.
Thank you for the link. I started playing long before the Internet Revolution, and even though I now live in the world of Google, this one has passed me by I'm afraid.
4. In which case it must be Thin Blue Line (http://www.thethinblueline.net/). Some of my playing is indeed criminal, so it's a fair cop, guv. I don't want to end up with a Police record because of it though. I rest my case... And Rowan Atkinson isn't even a member on there. I'm bored now.... More wine, Vicar...
5. Thicko #1 back again. Does anyone have a link to the mythical world of TBL? Ta muchly. It's not a 'funny handshake' thing, is it?
6. Google didn't seem to help me at the time. Must have been on a tea break. I shall be dishing out Thicko Club numbers soon...
7. Cheers for that, very interesting indeed. Your build thread is great too - the amp and 69'er make lovely looking (and no doubt sounding) pairing Geoff
8. Ok, Captain Thicko here - what is TBL? Cheers Geoff
9. Nice stack you have there, Sir. I just love the look of the Red Iron. I did some googling but there's not a lot of info about on them, apart from their own website. What is the power, valve configuration on it? Where did you get it? Oh so many questions, and I'm hungry to know more about them..... Cheers Geoff
10.
Usually true, but I had a problem with Tech21 gear. All their kit that I've ever seen has this panel on it with a dot in two of the boxes: and if you buy from Thomann you get the 230V version, whereas UK stores sell the 240V. I bought an RBI from Thomann, plugged it in and destroyed it. Fortunately Thomann took the standpoint that what they're selling *should* be fine over here, so gave me a refund. For everything since, I've just sent a quick email to the manufacturer and asked if they foresee any issue. All so far have said 'go ahead - it'll be fine'.
That's an unusual or poor design solution. I'd be interested to know what forced the former.
11.
Hmmm... started on my teacher's Squier P Bass. Far too simple. Over the next two years: Fernandez Tremor fretless uneven fretboard so... Ibanez EDB600 put WD40 in the composite body pup screw holes & gassed myself so... Yamaha RBX270 boring so... Johnson fretless didn't play nicely so... Yamaha BB414 new, no character so... Hohner BBass Pro VI loved it Peavey Grind 5 loved it too so one had to go, so... Yamaha RBX260F realised I couldn't play f/less Squier VM Jazz Bass realised I couldn't play bass, so sold this and Hohner VI to go back to basics, so... Yamaha BB300 Mrs Lownote started tapping her foot, very fast, so... Hohner BBass Pro IV cheap but wonderful. Starting to learn bass. Don't try this at home kids. Just buy a simple bass. Learn. End of...
Absolutely brilliant. Is there a BC Quote Of The Year Award? There should be. Cheers Geoff
12. I only have one car. I have GAS for more.
13.
AAAAARGH MY EYES!!!! They love it!
Now that's definitely a bright box lol
14.
Right. Cutout for a Celestion 5" is 3mm larger then that of the original Trace Elliot speakers. Making those four holes bigger in a sensible way took some time, I did it so now they are conical and everything fits nicely. Had a solo test run connected to a Trace Elliot AH300-12 and this little fella can go LOUD for its 120w (everything below 4kHz is filtered off). Speakers are (of course) wired as two series pairs in parallel keeping the load at 8 ohms. Speaker grille is currently in the garage drying, Not sure if anyone will like the colour I gave it but I do :-) I think the Celestions will do fine. Can't wait to take the revived brightbox to the studio and test it with the 2x15. Thanks for reassuring me Steve.
What an excellent little project. Look forward to hearing how it works out.
15. Kerplunk-bump. I'm away for a few days cleaning the sleigh, feeding the reindeers and making sure the Elves get paid.
16. I've owned one, and played both. Out of the two, I'd go for a Yamaha BB. Coat got.....
17.
Dave Wilson in Haltwhistle. http://www.dwilsonguitars.com/ None better.
Had a quick peek at his site. The two language options in the top-right of the page amused me: English (Australia) or English (UK).
18. Not a mark on it? There is a huge mark on it. On the front, in yellow lol. Sorry, couldn't resist.
19. A festive cheer welcome Cheers Geoff
20. Wow that was a pretty quick sale. Rightly so.
21. I've been using the Sennheiser Freeport for about 3 years now - no problems at all, no interference or loss of sound quality, and dead simple to use. I've only needed to replace the transmitter aerial after I stupidly slammed shut my aluminium bits-and-bobs case with antenna sticking out. Silly me. Cheers Geoff
22.
I even scared our guitarist by turning it up.
That's reason enough for every bass player to own one, in my book
