1. How dare someone start a non-Barefaced related thread. Don't the letters 'BC' stand for 'Barefaced Chat', after all? In all seriousness, whenever I have heard a band using Markbass gear it has sounded on the button. There is a local band with a talented young female bassist - she uses one of the small combos (12" I think) - and always sounds tight, articulate and sits very nicely in the mix. Cheers Geoff
2.
I'll hear nothing against the humble Bedford Rascal... A fine conveyance. And fits a single bed mattress in the back almost perfectly... (drifts off remembering his youth through rose tinted puffy clouds....)
So, you were a rascal in a Rascal in your youth? ;-)
3. Leading me on to the inevitable question, when will the Barefaced Rascal be available? ;-)
4. Never thought I'd hear anyone comparing the Compact to a Bedford Rascal, never mind the vendor lol. I wonder how many foreign BC users are now googling said vehicle, and being disappointed lol. ;-)
5.
I still in search for a better cab to go with my LB30 instead of the TC BC212 i'm using atm.
I'd recommend a BF Super 12.
6.
Hmm funny, my LH seems very clear and clinical to me, sounds great with my EB but a bit colourless with my DB - I normally just have the Eq pretty flat, boost the middle for the DB. So I guess I find it a completely adequate amp for everything I do - certainly loud enough - just a bit soulless......
When you say you have the EQ flat, do you mean all the tone controls set to noon? I've been tempted by an LH so am interested in any comments.
7. If you are happy drilling your own holes to mount to the amp, and doing a bit of fiddling, then you can get generic rack ears in standard U heights on ebay for about a tenner. Depends on the width of the amp really, as this could be the limiting factor on which generic ears you can use. If the amp is about 17" wide you should be ok, any less than that you will have to get ears with longer front-facing sections to reach the standard 19" width mounting centres on the rack case. The generic ones I recently bought have 20mm wide front-facing sections which should just be enough to rack my TE head successfully. I may have to space them out with a couple of washers between the amp body and the ears though, just to get the 19" mounting hole dimension across the front.

10. We played one hour headlining a charity event last night. Things were running behind schedule and we ended up on stage nearly an hour after our allotted time - however they didn't cut us short which was nice. We picked all the best up-beat songs from our repertoire, and I like to say it went very well. Unfortunately not a huge turnout, but a good time was had by all. I made up for my appalling performance last week, by managing to remember all the songs, and not doing a poor impression of Les Dawson on bass. We were all on top form, despite our guitarist nearly slicing his thumb off at work during the day (he's a butcher by trade). One of the punters wanted to book us there and then for a 40th party on 30th December at the same venue - we had to decline due to various family commitments. Thankfully our final gig of 2013 is next Friday. At last a whole Christmas and New Year off work, no gigs and no practice. Hoo-bloody-rah. Roll on 2014.
11. I used this exact rig for two years - excellent sound, easy to move. A great pairing at a cracking price.
12. I successfully gigged this amp (it used to be mine) with a BF Compact, and more recently with a Super 12, no probs. Rarely needed to DI. The key is a decent sensitive cab.
13. BF site seems to be up for me, but then I'm in the same postcode area lol. Is this the page you were referring to Phil? 15. I'd go for the one you know and have tried and liked, and which works well for you and the band. Assuming the condition & price is right, of course. And also assuming you haven't heard or tried the ebay alternative so are buying blind (or should that be 'buying deaf'?). Cheers Geoff
16.
Scorpions - Lovedrive has to be on the list
Oh yes (said in the Churchill bulldog advert voice)
17. Scorpions - Taken By Force was seminal in my musical development (I use that word carefully lol). Followed closely by anything Led Zep related, albeit less heavy. I saw Motorhead so many times at Hammersmith in the 80's, I lost count - probably because I wasn't 'all there' so to speak. And then there was Hot Chocolate, of course - although I'm more likely to drink it these days.
18. We've got BF. We've got BFM. Can we have a BFF, please?
19. It makes no difference: either each cab connected to a separate socket on the back of the amp, OR one socket connected to the first cab which is then daisy chained to the second cab, both scenarios are running the speakers in parallel and thus presenting a total load of 4 Ohmiums to the amp (assuming each cab is 8 Ohms). To run the cabs in series requires a special cable or connection box, and is very rare in the wild, and only of use if you have multiple cabs which would present an unsuitably low load when connected in parallel - for example two 4 Ohm cabs.
20.
You know when you get a cut inside your mouth and you just can't stop tonguing it? Well it's like that
I had to re-read that very carefully ;-)
21.
As for the weight of the BF super 12T , if you can't easily lift it then I would be surprised if you had the strength to get out of bed .
Quote of the week
22. Nice looking piece of kit - never heard of them before. Especially love the location of the valves - a clever idea.
23. I would have gone for the Asterix books, and the Aubergine of course, in exchange for my pristine Compact. However it's been trouble-free for the past two years. If I wait until the new year, things might change though*. *Any opinions or offers expressed in this post are not necessarily those of the author.
24. If I remember rightly the effects loop is serial - as are most amps I thought. However, the effects level is darned high on the TB500 - you will be better off putting it between the instrument and the input. Give it a try either way, and see which works best for you. Cheers Geoff
