1.
Thanks Geoff I did indeed take it to a pro and the fan was found to be damaged, when removed it just fell apart. Anyway a new fan has been fitted and all is well again, gigged it last Friday with no issues so hopefully the problem is solved. Paul
Ah that's good news Paul. I recently had a Trace fan which jammed solid as the bearings failed, and I found an exact replacement easily enough on ebay. Enjoy! Geoff
 2.
I've actually had that very thing happen twice with eBay sales, where they would have a 'friend' call me and arrange to come and pick it up in a fortnight and pay cash on collection... I never took the chance...
Blimey sounds well dodgy. Don't blame you for passing on that one.
 3. For the first time ever since the band has been together (4 years) , the other week we had a request for a song we'd already planned for the second half of the set. We said, 'yeah, we could probably give it a shot...' The song in question is Parklife, which our keyboard player sings out front with a wireless mic, and very well indeed I must add.
 4. Oh bugger. I was about to fly to Hungary and arrange a lorry....
 5. Oh you poor folks. Often my keyboard player picks me up in his estate. Sometimes I use my car. Other times I use my wife's car which is massive and could probably fit the band and gear in, in one go. Sometimes she gives us a lift. Having said that, I have used that thing called public transport - bass in gig bag over back, amp in one hand, BF Compact in the other. It's doable, and pretty easy if you have the right gear.
 6.
Looks like someone has resurrected this old thread. Stiff, light and heavily damped is a valid approach (no doubt you're thinking of the Celestion SL600 here) that certainly works well for mid frequencies. I think that at bass frequencies, the best approach is as much mass as possible, although brick and concrete don't make for very portable cabs. I have a pair of Celestion TN1230 12- inch drivers (same as in the K12s) and a pair of CDX1-1731 compression drivers (superior model to the one used in the K12s) on P.Audio Nexo-copy horns. The cab is quite compact - about 20 litres - and is made from half inch ply with three-quarter ply for the baffle. Crossover is 1.6/kHz L/R 4th order. The Celestion 12s are very impressive. They go to 2kHz before break-up and are ruler-flat in their passband. The whole system measures plus/minus 1db from 200 to 18kHz, something that I don't think was possible even 10 years ago from mid-market speakers. Somebody at Celestion knows what they're doing. 90 percent of the design work is in the crossover and I'm building that now. I expect they'll be done for Christmas.
Stevie, would love to see some pics of your work if you get a chance to post some here. Interesting stuff. Cheers Geoff
 7.
Hi guys Yes this is the one, I bought it from new 6 years ago. I know this model has been de-listed and replaced with the AH600, so I'm hoping parts will still be available Paul
I've worked on older Trace amps, and the fan was a standard 80mm 12v jobbie you'd find in a PC. The protection circuit is usually a thermo switch mounted on the heatsink which trips at high temperature if the fan has failed for some reason, and shuts off the speaker load to allow the amp to cool down. However, I can't guarantee yours is the same - perhaps get it to a pro to check. I've seen faulty thermo switches before which jam in the off position. Cheers Geoff
 8.
Well, had my first rehearsal with the new cab and head last night. Just went with the stingray straight into the head with the preset firmly in. Great punchy sound, cutting through nice and clear whilst maintaining a rich, fat tone. Glowing comments from the rest of the band. Love it !!!!!!!!
And that is what it's all about. Nice setup you have.
 9.
So glad I took Garys advice and stuck with it. The Terror Bass came into it's own. Still familiarising my self with it's nuances but I'm convinced now that I made the right choice. The future's bright, the future's Orange
That's pleasing to read. Great that you stuck with it, and found the Orange future
 10.
Sure, I'll keep you informed...Cheers! We are called Killing Vegas, see link on my signature below. Are you on any band? If so, I'll try and make it to one of your gigs.
www.killingvegas.com doesn't seem to be working for me at the moment. EDIT: It's working now - must have been something my end.... We are a local covers band called Random, usual pub/club covers really - old-ish farts having a bit of a laugh with a paid hobby Ooops I appear to have derailed this thread....apologies
 11.
Our rehearsal room is on an industrial state near Small Dole and our next gig will be on a charity event in Horsham on the 8th of December. We've now taken on board a second guitardist so we've stopped gigging for a bit, now mainly song writting and getting the songs tight.
Ok cool. When you are up and running again I'd like to come and see a gig - seeing as you are pretty local to me. EDIT: What's the band called? Cheers Geoff
 12. Based on your description, does it look like this?
 13.
http://m.flickr.com/...07/11106199654/ There you go!
Nice indeed. Love the black/chrome theme there
 14.
Go one step further and try 035 - 095 suddenly, it's jazz
Nice.....
 15. Hey PauBass, where do you guys play? Locally? Wouldn't mind trying to get to see you some time. Cheers Geoff
 16. Sorry to hear about your situation. That's quite some list of gear you have! Good luck with raising the funds you need. Regards Geoff
 17.

So THAT'S how long they are. I'd never have guessed. ;-)
 18.
Where did you get the 130db figure for the S12? That's jet engine territory :-D
I believe that the 130db number is probably the max SPL of the S12. It's sensitivity is around 103db @ 1m @ 1watt, similar to the other cab mentioned.
 19.
Month before Xmas not a great time to sell, I'd put it away until Feb
Yeah you ain't kidding My timing couldn't have been worse (my drummer also said that once or twice lol)
 20.
Ahh good I'm glad, thanks guys. The sound is much punchier through the 0db inut too!
I've often found that the sound of the unattenuated 'passive' input to be preferable to the attenuated one, on most of my amps.
 21. Yep, certainly nothing woolly about their service/spares dept.
