Wattage is moot. Volume is limited by voltage swing, and whatever you gain by increasing the voltage sensitivity into a 4 ohm cab is offset by the increased current draw. If you can't get the volume you need from an 8 ohm cab you don't need more power, you need a second identical cab. That will give you a 6dB increase, which equals quadrupling your power/doubling the voltage into one cab, assuming it could handle it, which it probably can not.
What he said. And I know from experience that a dual Compact setup is pretty spectacular.
To the Ebay seller, it's the "knut". Which can be found at the top of the arm (or "kneck") - which can be identified by its profusion of fretts. Unless, that is, it's a "frettles". If the instrument in question (a "base", to be specific) isn't a Squire, it's quite likely to be a Tokia, made in the Ibanez Factory. Bunch of stupid knuts. J.
Haha :-)

On the counter side, I had to sack our original drummer a couple of years ago. Made it worse because we were all friends, and knew each other socially, and he was the guy that originally brought us all together as a band. However, his timing was getting progressively worse, and he only knew 11 on the volume scale - the latter was causing us to lose out on bookings. So, after an outdoor summer charity event, where he had pretty much sealed his fate after a particularly appalling attempt at drumming (Animals by Nickelback was the most cringe-worthy moment), enough was enough. However the rest of the band sodded off, leaving it to me - I wasn't impressed. I was friendly, honest and open with him and explained the situation - I would never do it any other way. I felt awful though. His first words to me afterwards were: 'I'm surprised I lasted this long, to be honest', at which we both laughed. I gave him a lift home afterwards. We are still friends and see each other around, and I've gone to watch his new band. It's never a good thing. Hope you sort something else soon.

Interesting discussion on the major 3rd, and I must look further into CK's comments on it. Having thought about it, I think I'm using it less and less myself - preferring to using as a very brief passing note on my way to somewhere else. And having just messed about with a bass line I'm putting together the major 3rd features very little. And I had even realised it. As for learning scales, well they are easy to learn and on bass the finger patterns can be used anywhere. I believe they can only add to a musician's toolbox and make them a more rounded player. I first started to learn music theory at the age of 14 when my parents paid for piano lessons, and could sight read pretty well. After a year or so I hated it because that's what 14-year olds are like. I did a few practice and theory exams, but nothing more. Looking back I regret not continuing with that more than anything: I'm sure I'd be a much better musician now if I had. My parents DID know best after all!
I'm kicking around the idea of going with a G-K MB500 head, and a G-K 212MBE-ll cab. Any thoughts? I'd be running a Fender PBass through it. No pedals etc., just the PBass.
Assuming the Mk 2 cabs are tonally similar to the Mk1 versions, and you like that tone, then I don't think you will be wanting for much volume wise. There are 4 and 8 ohm versions of these cabs, the one I tried was the latter and was more than loud enough, and will give you the option of expanding with another cab should you need it. I guess it depends where or how you play. As always, try before you buy if possible.
The one that is most likely to make me stop reading is finding "of" used when it should be " 've"....
Ah yes a classic. I should of thought've that that myself...
Particular gripe of mine - the use of the work "then" when "than" is the correct word. Very common amongst the yoots and often seen on BassChat eg, "my amp goes louder then that" Pedant rant over
To paraphrase one of Harry Endfield's characters... My amp is considerably, yes considerably, louder then thou's
OK - the thread's mutated a bit, so I'll add to the moaning: 'ass' and 'arse'.
Ray Alan and Lord Charles come to mind....

Having owned up to my Grill/Grille faux pas, I'd like to throw in another pet hate of mine: 'there' or 'their'. Their you go...
How about the trust rod? Obviously we trust it will counteract the tension in the strings...
Truss you to come up with that one

Grill/Grille: Holds hand up in shame. I have corrected my ad accordingly.

Morning! You won't kill the amp by using the SR through the passive (0db input). Just set the gain as you would normally - ie just before clipping or occasional clipping depending on your taste/ears. Assuming the Squier through the passive input gives you all the volume you need to play live, then so will the SR. Not all active basses have a really high output. And some passive basses do have a really high output, so best to try both input options. And yes, -15db is quite a chunk of signal loss. Cheers Geoff
A/B'd with Garys........sounded just as loud at the same settings. Maybe it's the voicing of the Schroeder that makes it seem quiter
If Gary's has lower gain tubes then maybe that is the reason. Are you getting any dirt/grunge/break-up at all anywhere through the gain settings on yours? Or is it just clean all the way from 0 to 11? I mean 10 of course...
+1 for the Carvin BX series. Goes great with a Barefaced Super12 too. A Basschatter brought one to a gig for me to try, I bought one the next day. I've got the 500, I had the Shuttle 6.0 before that with exactly the same issue as you describe for me, clinical and lacking in the round hairy things. Never had it at full volume, there's plenty of power! Bassgear have them so you can try.
You're in Sussex. I'm in Sussex. Interesting. Lets talk....
Gary did tell me that he's swapped the valves in his for military grade 12AY7's because the 12AX7's were just too harsh. He says he gigs with an old P bass with the gain and master at 9 o clock and it's loud enough through his Barefaced S12 to hold it's own in a 5 piece band. I realise the cab does alter the results but my Schroeder is rated at 103dB/1w/1m so it's pretty efficient. If I have my gain and master at 9 o clock, we're talking living room levels
Ok, well for info with my TB500 through a BF Compact, 9 oclock on gain and master at home would have been divorce level.

Cheesy Please I know what you mean though, it can be a nightmare finding a name that suits the band, that all band members like, and will get you noticed/remembered for all the right reasons (although hopefully your playing & music will do that). I do remember a local yoof band called simply 'Cancelled'. They only did it so the chalk board outside the pub would say: 'Tonight's Band Is Cancelled'.
