I do know from using one that the BG250 is a good bit of kit. I think the one I used had the spectracomp tone print which seemed to work well. The tube drive was ok I guess, but nothing special. Seemed well built and loud enough for the limited time I used it, and the base tone was good to my ears. Lovely weight too - something like 17kg I believe. TC have just brought out a new extended range of BG combos, and you might find the original BG250 discounted. However, as far as I know they cannot take an extension cab. Cheers Geoff
Oh dear. Plan B is to A/B mine with a guy in a local band
Is that what the Orange tech bods said?

Alex, are you there, dear chap? We demand a Compact history lesson. I don't mean a short, concise lesson - I mean a lesson on the history of Compacts. Or will we just have to wait for your autobiography? (Make sure it's not a weighty tome

Also they switched to two speakons at some point during G2 production.

Looking good How about one of your famous video reviews if you get a chance...? Cheers Geoff
Yes. I'll try it with my BB414 as that quite a hot output for a passive bass
Good idea. If a BB414 doesn't do the trick, then there is definitely something awry.

Well, the family is getting bigger. I've just picked up a gorgeous Vintage White 424X from our very own Mudpup (cheers Jon, good doing business with you). That's it really, not a lot more to say at this moment

Met Jon at lunchtime to take his minty BB424X off his hands. Sorry couldn't stay longer and chat over a coffee, was tight for time. A good chap - have no fears dealing with Jon. Cheers mate Geoff
Aiming is nothing if you're gonna move the rifle when pulling the trigger. This one went miles over my head. Wikipedia (Terry-Thomas) nor Wiktionary (bounder) helped me either, coz I didn't even understand the explanations written there. Anyway, good cab, eh?
Apologies young man. I should have paid more attention to your location - it's an English thing, I assure you. And for which I profusely apologise.
All sorted now chaps. I have a Super 12 winging it’s way to me early next week. Many thanks for all the info, it’s been very much appreciated. I’ll let you know my thoughts in a couple of weeks’ time once I’ve had chance to crank it up with the new head
Good man. You have a very similar setup to mine now (TE 250W head into a S12 in my case) Will be interested to hear your thoughts on it when you have a chance to try it out. EDIT: Was it deanovw's S12 by any chance? Good chap to deal with, bought an amp from him a while back.
I was referring to my impression of the quality of the build of NX2-212. By no means the cab arrived defected, but how it's been put together by Benz Genz. My quality benchmark are the Markbass cabs where all littlest details are taken care of. Perhaps this just relates to the design; the NX2-212 has vertical gaps where one can see the "stuff" (foam, screws from handles) inside, whereas with other cab design the "stuff" is hidden inside. In any case I'm not discouraging anyone from getting NX2-212 !
Hi I totally understand what you are saying, and wasn't questioning it at all. My comment was light-heartedly aimed at BassTractor
What are you guys talking about? Nobody even understands that Mark accidentally sent him a Barefaced? PS no ill intent. Have ordered BF myself.
You bounder (said in a Terry Thomas accent)
Hey Monster, thanks for the link but I contacted these guys to ensure I'd get a Mk1 as pictured on their site, and they told me that the Mk1's are discontinued and I would receive a Mk2. So on to GK themselves who told me that the "footprint" of the new cabs is the same as the old ones except for the interlocking corners. they very helpfully offered to send me replacement ones for my combo free of charge, so hats off to Gallien Krueger. I'm going to order my cab today.
Can't knock that, can you? And they get a sale! Result.
Update! I'm having the AH300-7 that's on the forum. Now then, about these cabs.........................
Good move, that's a good head. So how much does that leave you for cab(s)? £700 or so? Do you need two cabs? What size venues do you play? Do you have a preference to speaker sizes? To be honest, a decent 212 will do pretty much anything you need for pubs, clubs - even larger places to be honest. If you go for an 8 Ohm unit, it will still be flipping loud - and if you feel the need for more, then another will fit the bill. If a 212 is physically too large, then perhaps a pair of 210s, with the drivers stacked vertically of course, will do the trick. A lot of people seem to go for a pair of 1x12's around here - modular, highly portable and loud and good tone if they are quality ones. My personal recommendation would be a Barefaced cab - there are a few secondhand ones on here in your budget, and they weigh very little but tonally and volume wise they really deliver in my opinion. I've been using a 12kg BF Compact with my Trace heads in pubs, clubs etc with no problems at all. Never needed any PA help. I hope someone else comes along to enlighten you on wider cab options, as I feel I'm beginning to sound like a Barefaced sales guy. lol. Cheers Geoff

Head wise you could look out for one of the SMX models. They have 12 band graphic, valve drive and the terrific dual band compressor.
-
Up to a grand at a push (I could do without eating for a while anyway) 😉
Well that will get you a good Trace head and a quality lightweight cab. 300 for a head, 500 for a cab and you have change for cables and a wireless :-)
-
I have a TE 300SMX and bought an Eden Nemesis 4x10 cab for £175 on ebay. Awesome cab, lightweight(not neo) and has been dependable. If you can pick one up cheap they're great-very punchy sound with the TE on preset 2 that really cuts through in the mix.
Preshape 2 - my fave.
-
An important question: what sort of budget do you have for head & cab?

Blimey that went quick.... hardly had time to view the ad in the forum lol Hi folks I'm selling this for the second time, believe it or not. Just got this back from a fellow BC'er, but have my eye on something else - so need to liquidate some funds. It's a Vintage V4 P copy. It has an unusually nice neck: smooth, slim and easy to get around, with no rough frets. The gloss black paintwork is in lovely condition, as are the Wilkinosn hardware and pickups. The latter are nice and hot, with a punchy sound. Yours for the princely sum of £80. Cheers Geoff And of course some pictures....
