Optimum soldering temperature for pots and pups
RandomBass replied to DanEly's topic in Repairs and Technical
Might also be worthwhile rubbing the relevant area on the pot case with some abrasive to get a really good joint. Blimey, 'pot' and 'joint' in the same post ;-) -
Also, the Yamaha BB424 has a chunky neck profile, compared to the Ibby SR etc. It's also a highly versatile instrument which will serve you well. They pop up on here from time to time, and you will get more bang for your buck buying secondhand on BC if you are so inclined.

Whereabouts are you raindog? I have a V4 (and one of their Jazz models) you are welcome to try out. I'm near Brighton. Cheers Geoff

The Tony Butler V4 they make is particularly nice by the way.

To add to your journey, don't overlook the Vintage brand - they are a brand in their own right, not to be confused with the Vintage Modified line from Squier. They do fabulous 'copies' of the classic Precision, Jazz and Musicman models. They are extremely well made with high quality hardware (tuners, bridge, knobs) and great pickups, as well as being very cost effective. They are distributed by JHS Ltd (www.jhs.co.uk). Cheers Geoff

Hello peeps I was lucky enough to pick up number 4 of 50 LB550 recently, off here. It's a great amp, and the valve front end really does make the most of that 550 W Class D output stage, and weighs something like 6kg. It's housed in the same format as the LB30, but has an additional Gain control. You can get some grit with the gain maxxed out, or back it off to about 3 o'clock, and you will have all the clean volume you could want. I've used this amp successfully with both my BF Compact, and a pair of upgraded Harley Benton 210s (stacked vertically of course). Although it has a classic FMV tone stack, the shift switches allow a huge variation of tonal control - from modern hifi to really gritty middy rock. Rock on! I'm only selling because I do need to thin the herd a bit, and something has to give. I can't believe I'm sellling a limited edition one! I bought it just a few months back for £400 delivered, so I'm asking for £380. It comes with a Roqsolid cover too. Originally it came with knurled chrome control knobs, but I replaced these with some traditional Ashdown black/white jobbies as I find these much easier to see at a glance on stage. The original chrome knobs will be fitted instead of these, unless you decide otherwise. And now for some pictures:

Does the "other half" really stop you!
So you can get a 2024 in the same colour and she'll never know.
This has indeed crossed my mind on a couple of occasions However, I think she would notice the hole in our bank account. Although, isn't that what Credit Cards were invented for? -
SOLD: Upgraded Harley Benton BB210 Cabs
RandomBass replied to RandomBass's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
It's been brought to my attention by a Forum Moderator that the amount in the Trade/Sale field should be £160, not £80, as it is the total of all item values in the ad. As we mere mortals cannot change this value once it's been set (an oversight really), just thought I'd make sure no-one was confused. If any God-like Moderator is reading this, could you update the Trade/Sale value please, to read £160. The Forum Moderator was unable to do this. Cheers Geoff -

My wife comes to quite a few of my gigs, so she will easily spot a new bass that she hasn't seen before. I'm very lucky because she doesn't mind my little vice as long as it doesn't get silly. My most expensive bass is my BB1024, which I got for a great price at GAK. I also have some other less expensive ones which are also on display at home. I think she is more upset if she is the last to know about a new purchase - after the band have found out etc. So I don't have to go sneaking around behind her back, which makes home life very nice. I'm lucky really. Cheers Geoff -

Unless the kids fit in the boot......

Sounds like a result - and if the tone is as good too, then you are onto a winner. I'm in a similar position with my Trace heads - seemingly very very loud with acres of headroom, and that's into a single 15, or single or dual 2x10s. And I luurve the TE tone. Enjoy! Cheers Geoff

Sorry to hear that about the drummer, Geoff. Certainly makes you think how we take our senses for granted, and when there is suddenly the chance one of them may be impaired or taken away completely, it must be quite scary to say the least. I hope something suitable comes up for you soon. Cheers Another Geoff

Ironic name of the first thread responder I'm guess I'm lucky that our singer is able to sing in the original key, no matter what the song. Handy really, as I'm trying to think where we might apply these capos on her....

Well here I am again - this time for the Vintage V4 which I bought back from Simon. Same as before really - top bloke, friendly, good communications and jeez how well was it packed??? Cheers Geoff

Anyhow, yes you'd rather have the goods but at least you got your money back - so you can buy it from somewhere else Whew! sigh of relief Cheers Marc
I think that 'somewhere else' will have to be BC :-) -
Ashdown After Eight - escessive white noise/hiss
RandomBass replied to RPaul's topic in Amps and Cabs
You know, I'd expect a practice amp to be designed without a certain level of hiss and background noise. Surely Ashdown should have considered this? -
And it dwarfs the guitarists amp. Which is very important.
Even if it sounded sh*te, I'd still buy it for this very reason.
