1. Ouch. Assuming they are metal shafts that must have taken some doing. They are probably soldered into a pcb which can be a nuisance. If the damage was caused by a drop then best get a full health check done on the amp.
2. I think there's a difference between relicing and destructive vandalism. Neither appeals to me to be honest. Said the owner of a reliced Jaco Jazz.
3. Depending where that cap is in the schematic, the only cable problem I could imagine would be a shorted one. A reversed polarity (?) cable would/should only make the speaker go in-then-out, instead of out-then-in. Or vice versa, depending on the weather.
4.
Now theres an idea, three cabs is way cooler than two. And taller.
Especially when the drivers are vertically aligned for sonic reasons. A win-win scenario. Comes with step ladder to reach the amp.
5. ... followed by the weathering of some 'band-mates'.
6. Well, just as I was about to open a case with ebay, I get an email notification that the seller has refunded the full amount to my Paypal, with an apologetic note accompanying it. At least I got my money back without having to go through official channels. However, I'd rather have had the goods lol. Im happy though. My cynical side says he was disappointed with how much I won it for, and got a better sale elsewhere, and couldn't work out how to get out of the sale with me. Jus' sayin'........ Cheers guys Geoff
7.
I personally like the idea of using 2x12. Can always use three 2x12 to make it 6x12.
A 6x12 stack is an intersting thought indeed
8. Cheers for that Marc, your advice is much appreciated. This is the only time I've had a problem using ebay - and I'm still hoping it can somehow be resolved without having to escalate it. Anyway, if I don't hear back from the seller by mid afternoon, I'm opening a case. I've checked timings and it's not too late. Cheers Geoff
9. I've not owned one but have played one a couple of times. If you are ok with the shorter scale, they are very easy players - quick to move around the neck too, I found. Not particularly versatile sound-wise, but then neither are some other classics out there. Neck dive could be a problem if you don't use a wide/thick strap to help prevent this. I did have the Epiphone EB0 for a while, and my comments above apply too. Although at £150 I wasn't complaining. Try one if you can, it's the only way to find out for yourself really. Cheers Geoff
10. Still no sign of my goods, or any contact from the seller. I've sent him one last message this morning, advising that if I don't hear form him today I will be raising it with ebay. It's been 11 days since I won the auction. I hate having to do this, but I don't think I have any choice. I've been more than patient and understanding. Its the lack of comms that I'm not used to, and which bothers me. Anyway, have a good day.
11. Yep, something looking very similar to those, although the chassis mounting holes will be in different locations to these generic ones. Be interesting to hear if you get a result with TE, I'm looking for some at the moment Cheers Geoff
12. I think I stopped around Load/Re-Load times. I just saw this on another BC thread, perhaps a new direction is in order... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBmM79YadYM
13.
This always makes me smile.
Oh god, brilliant. Never seen that one before. Must suggest to my band....
14.
I had 29 of them a year or two back. They totally destroyed my house and various bits of musical equipment. I do have a soft spot for them though... ...Romney Marsh...
29 of them??? That's one hell of a Marshall stack
15. Another band is Nouvelle Vague, who I started listening to back in about 2005 when I was living in Hamburg. They cover pretty much everything and anything, with what can only be described as a Jazzy/Easy Listening/Bossa Nova vibe. Very cool to my ears. Cheers Geoff
16. These are built in a single metal chassis screwed into the outer wooden case. They are easily removed and there should be two screw holes each side near the front of the chassis for mounting the rack ears. Original trace ears are notoriously rare and often people make their own - a simple drilled L bracket affair. Edit: These amps are standard 2U height.
17. My trusty Vintage V4 is coming back home to papa after a stint elsewhere. Can't wait.
18. When you say snapped off the three controls to the left, do you you mean the Pre Amp A & B and Compressor knobs? Is it just the plastic knobs that are missing - the metal pot shafts are still in place and can be rotated by hand? If so, should be able to locate some suitable replacements knobs from somewhere online. As for servicing, have a look in the Repairs & Technical section on here, I believe there is a pinned thread containing known repair techs. Cheers Geoff
19. I have the non-X version and yes, rather special instruments.
20. Cheers guys. Not been in this situation before so all good stuff.
21.
You might be getting worried unnecessarily but tbe seller should be able to reassure you. Mail him and ask for the latest news. Maybe you can get a BCer to go and collect it.
I hope that's the case. I've messaged the guy twice this week, once this morning. I think it's the lack of communication which bothers me most - I'm just not used to it. I have no idea whether the item was actually posted on Tuesday as promised and is still in the post, or is lost in the post, or whether its actually been posted at all yet.
22. I can't decide if this belongs here or in Off Topic, but it is music related, so here will do... I won something bass related via eBay on 3rd October. I paid pretty much immediately with paypal, just as I would do anywhere. Now, I heard nothing from the seller until 7th October, apologising for the delay getting touch as there had been a bereavemnt in the family. The seller promised to post the item the following day. It's now the 12th October, and I've not seen anything of the item, and no further contact from the seller, even though I've messaged him twice asking for an update. Now, I'm a sympathetic type, so a family bereavement is something I respect and understand would cause any ebay selling to be put on the back burner. However, no further contact explaining anything is beginning to bother me slightly. Am I being too paranoid about the possibility having been 'done'? I'm not a heavy user of eBay - I lurk there more often than sell or buy, and I've never had problems with previous purchases (or sales) there before. When would your alarm bells start ringing? Ta Geoff
23.
Well that's worked out nicely (again)
It's not unusual....
