I was just thinking that, I use to have a series 6 . it was the speakers I though were poor the heads seemed pretty good ..
Yeah mine's an AH200 GP12 Series 6. Through my Barefaced Compact it sounds great - highly recommended if you like the tone (which I certainly do). And the AH is really very loud, only weighs about 8Kg and fits nicely in a shallow 2U case (mine's in one of those SKB Roto-X cases).

I've just treated myself to a Vintage White 1024, from GAK. Rather pleased so far, sounded delightful at practice last night and our drummer was very complimentary of the tone - he does know his stuff too. At first I thought the X version looked meaner, but there's something about the classic uncluttered simplicity of the non-X version. Fit & finish are top-notch - and the price was tantalisingly good.....

If you are prepared to go second hand, there is a wealth of UK made TE gear available. I picked up an AH200 recently, for instance.
I get confused with the tone pot on a p bass going what sounds like the opposite way to my ears!
Have you tried facing the other direction? -
Round wound thuds when fingers hit non played strings
Yes. But it may require a change in your technique! It can still allow you to attack the strings if you want to, though I would advocate (and am working towards) a lighter right- hand style, as it makes playing less arduous and allows greater speed if required. A good tip is to try turning up the gain on your amp, but playing more gently to keep the overall volume level the same. This may force you to alter your attack such that the thump is less obvious or disappears altogether.
This is now my goal, too. Having wondered why my right hand was acheing after our last gig - I then saw some video footage of us playing. My god, no wonder my hand felt like that. I had no idea I was playing like that and I'm sure I never used to! I'm now making a concerted effort to lighten up with the right hand, and relax more. Not only should you hear less unwanted sounds, you should hopefully play easier and faster i think. Cheers Geoff -

I'm either going through a spring-clean or a mid-life crisis. So up for sale is my lovely USA Fender Highway One Jazz, in Midnight Wine Red. Totally standard apart from an aged pearl effect scratchplate, which I think looks much nicer. I will of course include the original off-white 3 ply guard. I've used it regularly - isn't that what they are for, after all? I have however taken good care of it, and there are only a couple of tiny pin prick marks on the upper edge which I have shown in one of the pictures. No idea how they got there but these things happen when playing the O2 (shop in the Arndale Centre Superbly low action without a buzz in earshot. So easy to play, it really is effortless - corny I know, but hey ho. Asking price is reduced to £400 Comes with original Fender gig bag, booklets and bits & bobs. Serial number indicates 2008 manufacture. Yep that's defo an ABM, an Evo2 I'd say (single instrument input jack with a passive/active switch by the look of it). Oh, and that's a jolly nice Jazz, too.

How funny. I've never been a double bass player, but that photo of Dave Swift holding both makes the electric look like a toy lol.

How very strange. Oh well, as you wish.
BGM this month is pretty good, I hope it is a sign of things to come, been worried of late as quality has been a little variable to say the least.
yeah I said the same to Mrs Geoff. Let's hope its not just a one- off event lol.
I'm not quite getting this. I had a Mag head (in fact i still do) and it has a pre-valve, grind function and subbass. Am I misremembering or do I own a Mag?
Well if you still have it, pop a pic up here and hopefully we can identify it correctly.

My copy popped through the letterbox today. Looking forward to sitting down with a cuppa for a read. There's a couple of good interviews in there by the look of it.
I hope Ashdown don't start making all the ABM range with class D power stages eventually. Part of what makes the ABM huge sound is the power stage transformer. I haven't tried the class D ABM yet but I fear that it might lack something like a lot of other Class D amps do.
Yeah those were my thoughts too. Perhaps the ABM500 will be reborn with the class D output stage from the mibass so they can keep a lower price model, and the 1000 watt version stays up near just as many pounds sterling.
