1. The difference between the MAG and ABM gets less and less each iteration. Now the latest MAG Evo 3 even has footswitchable overdrive (although not a valve like the ABM has), and has had a compressor and sub octave like the ABM for a few years. The MAG EQ is 5 band, the ABM is 7 band. ABM also has a mute switch and a pre/post DI switch, together with dual speakon/jack speaker connectors. MAG only has jack. ABM also has a line in to mix in an mp3 player or whatever, as well as a 4 way footswitch for Valve, EQ, Compressor and Sub octave. The latest ABMs now have Class D power amp sections, which has increased the power output and reduced the weight. This could be a good or bad thing, but I've not yet had the opportunity to try one of the new ABM1000's so cannot really say either way. However my experience of the class D MiBass left me wanting. Of course, reduced weight is always welcome. I reckon the new MAG Evo3 600 is a bit of a bargain to be honest. Yes it's made in PRC, but so is a lot of gear and that doesn't necessarily make it bad - my Chinese made LB30 is a storming piece of kit. I miss my old UK MAG600 - I should never have sold it. Seller's remorse. One thing that is constantly confusing with Ashdown is their power ratings. The MAG 600 and ABM 500 both use the same output stage, rated at 575 watts. They only differ in the pre-amp and some of the other niceties mentioned above. Cheers Geoff
2. I really think I should give the MiBass another go. I had one for a brief time, but didn't think it was anything special volume wise - but posts here (and other threads) seem to contradict my findings. I loved the design, weight, size and features - so perhaps I should revisit this one again. Hmmmmm.... Will be very interested to hear your further thoughts as you use it more. Cheers Geoff
3. As a talentless pub-gigging low life, any box with a driver in it that produces a semblance of low end frequency will probably do me just fine. I'm happy for the singer, guitarist and drummer to get the praise for their incredible talents lol.... Rarely are our 'stages' more than a few metres wide, and rarely are the punters much further away. But we keep em happy and get repeat bookings. The only dispersion I have to worry about is how quickly we clear the crowd when we get a bit boring.
4.
So; there's a big problem, or not..?
Yeah. The big problem with 4x10s is that they caused this thread.... lol
5.
I received mine yesterday, and apart from getting the wrong AC plug, (the right one arrived this morning), It sounds great. I will gig on Saturday and see how it sounds in a band situation.
Nice one. Keep us updated after your gig... Cheers Geoff
6. May I ask who has given you the opportunity to do these reviews?
7. Vintage V4 gets my vote too. Quality instrument at a good price. Well worth it, esp 2nd hand. Cheers Geoff
8. My current leaning is towards a pair of 210s, stacked with the drivers vertically. I can hear it fine on stage, and getting out into the audience has proven to me that it projects very nicely indeed.
9. Good question, something I'd like to know too. There's a guy on TB who has one, think he's an Ashdown endorser actually. His name is Jaquim or something....
10.
It come to a conclusion after a long battle with my Mrs that i can not keep my stack no more due to size and space ....... My currect stack consist TCBH500 and two TC BC2x12 cabinet. They aren't exactly heavy but still pretty big in the house. Was wondering whats a decent light weight combo that can do medium gig and DI out for PA support (so the amp can be use for stage monitor). Was looking at the Markbass CMD JB because is cheap £400-500 with 250watt and 1x15. Not sure is it good or not. Any other option would be welcome.
If you like the TC sound, how about trying their BG250 combo?
11. Hi this is most delightful. I can't see on mobile, but where are you located? I do wish they would sort that here. Cheers Geoff

I bought Dave's Raspberry Pi through the Market Place. A good price and fast delivery. Recommended. Cheers Geoff
13.
http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Little_Guitar_Works.html
I've heard about these but never seen one before. Can't get my little head around it though. How do they get a consistent action along the length of the neck? Surely a straight string alongside a curly neck can't do it? Help anyone....
14. They changed to using black cones a couple of years back, I believe.
15. Yeah two 8 Ohm cabs and one 4 Ohm cab, all in parallel, is 2 Ohms. The maths is: 1/Z = 1/8 + 1/8 + 1/4 = 1/4 + 1/4 so 1/Z = 1/2 so Z = 2
16.
A few years back, I replaced the seymour duncan pups in my Squier Vintage Modified Jazz with 64's. Money well spent and a very worthwhile upgrade. Actually the Seymour Duncans were a decent enough pup, although I just felt that the Wizards had a bit more to say for themselves and allowed me to be heard more clearly in the band that I was involved with at the time (five guitars and keys).
Five guitars? Bloody hell fire lol. And yeah, nice bit of wordsmith-ing from Gafbass
17.
Hi Geoff , I was just thinking of trying support the industry ,jobs & skills in this country .
That's very commendable. I think you've had quite a few suggestions on this thread. Be interesting to hear what you go for in the end. Cheers Geoff
18.
Nope, it's a fixed 'stamp' that not even the mods can change. The best way of advertising a price drop is to put it in the header - that way it'll get the message across without people even having to click your ad.
Ok ta
19.
I appear to have made multiple posts that my phone won't let of delete!
Oi, i heard you the first time! lol
20. Those British wages also pay the rent or mortgage and keep a roof over our heads. It's not just about consumerism, or misguided nostalgia.
21. Yeah I think there's a lot of mileage in starting off with a 210, with the option to add another at a later date. Vertically stacked 10's are rather nice - plenty of output and good projection - just make sure you get ones that have a tone you prefer, that's more important than volume. And of course I can hear things better at that height too. Just my uneducated view.
22.
Whats the best british make out there for Amp & Cab in your opinion taking into account reliabilty .
Out of curiosity, have you asked this question because you wish to buy British for any particular reason? Any budget in mind? Cheers Geoff
23. If the product is fit for purpose, does what I need and I can afford it, then keeping our economy going with employed workers is enough benefit for me.
24. Any way to update the Price Or Trade Value box when we decide on a price drop?
