1. Funnily enough I've just ordered some 10 Watt wire wound resistors to build a dummy load for my LB30, to do exactly what you are thinking.
2. Well fiddling with my head, which has tube drive and a compressor I guess means I use effects. i also have the same pedals for my simple head. So yes.
3. Yep of course you can, hence my comment. Didn't want you trying it without a load on the transformer, that's all. The DI is tapped from the output transformer, so you get the full glory of the output section coming through. I've used it before and it works really nicely - now that's true post-eq DI lol.
4.
May well have done except I don't need a cab! My mate lives in Truro too, he just went back today!
Hi Not sure if you meant you already have a cab or not, but if you go for an LB30 you will need a cab, or some sort of load for the output transformer.
5. Pretty much agree with most of the above. I've been gigging in a pub covers band for the past 3 years and soon learnt small and lightweight is so much better. Have been using a single 15" cab for everything, and it's more than enough with a decent amp. Normally use a Vintage V4 bass. I also have the honour of setting up all the PA for the band, which is nice lol.
6. Yeah watched this on Film 4 (i think it was) over the weekend. Some hilarious bits in it, esp when they go to see Rush play.
7. Thanks guys. Yes, I'm looking for an inexpensive and compact 210 cab, and I like the look of the Kustom ones I saw on Thomann. Not really heard or read much about them though.
8.
We are talking about just a one cab soloution, so wouldnt getting the most out of the amp be preferable in this case?
I do see where you are coming from there. I'm just saying don't limit yourself to only 4 Ohm cabs. You may find a decent 8 Ohm that sounds perfect tonally, and is efficient enough to go loud. On the flipside, a decent 4 Ohm may also do that. They all vary so much, and need to be tried in person. The 8 Ohm might even go louder (if it efficient enough), and put less strain on the amp, meaning you will actually have more headroom because the supply rails won't be struggling to provide all that extra current, thus potentially sagging the supply rail voltage. That depends on the amp design, of course.
9.
Same here, although my drummer (who does the driving) has also told me im not allowed another cab as it wont fit in the car :-(
Erm, I'm also in that situation with our keyboard player with whom I share driving duties.
10.
It would be rude not to mention it.
Yes, it would.
11.
Not true in general, the amp will start to clip at a lower power level because it runs out of voltage swing (assuming were talking SS amps rather than valve of course ..).
Perhaps, but the point is that this lower power level will result in a negligible difference in the actual output heard from the cab. So for a given voltage output (say for arguments sake, just below clipping) the 8 Ohm cab will be presenting a kinder load than the 4 Ohm cab. For instance a typical 500W @4 Ohm SS amp will perhaps be able to give around 300W at 8 Ohm. If the the two cabs are otherwise identical, the 8 Ohm cab will hardly be any less louder than the 4 Ohm Cab - if at all. Adding more speakers gives more additional output, based on my experience.
12. Hi all. Does anyone have experience of the Kustom Deep End cabs? Specifically the DE210? Searching has not proven fruitful...
13. How about a Highway One? Can't fault mine...
14.
Hey guys and Gals!! Guitarguitar have 2 of these in stock. I was going to get one but I`m a bit short of the cash the noo so will buy a Epi Tbird classic. And they do 12 months intrest free as well
Now I'd be interested to hear about the Tbird Classic when you get it. I see GAK are doing them at £320 for the sunburst....
15.
If that had four strings I'd be all over it
By the look of things, it's pretty much all over him...
16. I'd not worry too much about having a 4 ohm cab - the difference is negligible, if anything, volume wise. And 8 ohm will be a kinder load on the amp when things get loud.
17.
please don't hesitate to ask any questions.
Erm, what's the dog's name?
18. Slight aside: Where'd you get the case from? Is it a custom build for the ABM heads or something? Cheers Geoff
19. My Ibby SR700 was worth every penny of the £600 or so I paid for it. Ultimately the neck proved to be too thin, and after 18 months I had to let her go. Now, if I had £2k to blow on a bass, it would most probably be a Yamaha BB2024x. Although the 1024 would be just as good at less than half the price, with some dosh left over for some more lessons.
20. Out of curiosity, how did you come to be the owner of this unique amp?
21. Beauty, simplicity, class. If I had £750 spare, this would be on it's way to me.
22. One of the new TBird Classics for 320? Wow! And how does it balance? None of that mythical neck dive?
23.
More than worth a bit of routine maintenance on such a cool sounding amp...
Oh so very true, young man
24. I think Hamfist pretty much sums it up rather well. 1. The crackly input is more than likely due to a worn potentiometer - as you rotate the input gain knob the volume jumps about, crackles and isn't stable. The amp in our practice room is just like this, and it can be a real task to get something decent coming through sometimes. It's basically down to heavy usage of the pot, where the resistive track gets worn by the wiper part of the pot, or dust gets inside. It is sometimes possible to remedy the situation with a cleaning spray, if it's just dust causing the problem. Unless you are comfortable with doing this yourself, I'd get it to a tech. Also, the seller should have been open and honest about any faults, I would have thought. 2. On the rear, you can use either the jack or speakon alone, or both at the same time. They are simply wired in parallel and allow two cabs to be connected directly to the amp without having to daisy chain. Remember the minimum impedance load of the amp, which is 4 Ohm (meaning you can use one 4 Ohm cab on it's own, or two 8 Ohm cabs together). 3. A 210 would of course help, but see how you get on with the 410 to start with. I have an ABM500 Evo 3, and find it great. Cheers Geoff
