No bass, but I'd really like more time to learn to sight read.
-
yeah I thought exactly the same. God they were good.
From an old geezer. -
Blimey! Now if GAK would only set up a grocery division, I'd be more than happy to do the weekly shop lol....
-
In which case I'd get one now, and like you say, another later. I know that the Mk2 version of the MBE is due soon (and will most likely be around £350 at a guess), so the ones on offer at Thomann are most likely end of line stock. I see the 4 Ohm version is already out of stock.
-
I think the MBE212 would be the appropriate route to take. Not sure what your funds are, but two of them (8Ohm each) would be an awesome vertical 4x12 with the ABM500. And just use one cab for the smaller pub events no problem.
-
It sounds like these ratings refer to the new ABM1000 and ABM2000 amps which have only just been released. The ABM500 is definitely 575 Watts into 4 Ohms, and probably something like 360 or so into 8 Ohms. So one or two MBE212 will be just fine.
Edit: Just had a look at the download you linked, and yes it refers to the ABM1000/2000 amps. -
What Mudpup says - those MBE212 (8 ohm) at 200 notes from Thomann are an amazing deal. Two of them gives you a very lightweight vertical 4 x 12. Awesome, methinks.

Yeah, that sounds about right - checking the manual for the ABM500, it's 575 watts @ 8 ohm or 1000 watts @ 4 ohm... so it's probably going to be putting out some decent volume into the GB cab.
I'm so tempted to hit the fire button on the GB cab... only thing stopping me (pretty much) is that it's 4 ohm... but that could maybe be a good thing. Stops me from being tempted to buy extra cabs for the hell of it in future - provided its loud enough and sounds good, it could be all I need. But then, if I ever upgrade, I don't really have any other equipment that I could use a 4 ohm cab with, whereas I could repurpose any 8 ohm cab to be used with one of my guitar amps.
Aaaaah, decisions decisions Thanks for your input!

I think you will find the ABM500 is rated at 575 Watts into 4 ohms, and probably about 360ish into 8 Ohm. The 'peak' value of 1000 Watts refers to a short-term max that the amp can deliver, not a continuous rating.
I also have an ABM - it will be more than enough with a few suitable speakers attached to it...
Watts aren't everything when it comes to volume of course - cab design, speaker area, speaker displacement etc, and there are plenty of wiser people on here who will be advise more accurately than me. -

it'll never catch on .................. which I believe is what was said about Les Paul's first efforts, the precision bass - and erm The Beatles.

The Beatles? Who? -
Can't wait for the Fender Signature model...

That is brilliant. I wish my degree project had been so interesting.

What are these 5-string devices that people speak of? They will never catch on. Keep the 4-string

I pulled the trigger on one of these this morning from Thomann. At just over £200 it seems silly not to. I'm wondering how it will match up with a Barefaced compact to give me a little more ear level monitoring. If it sounds bad together I'll just leave it in our rehearsal room.
Anyone know how long these take to arrive from Thomann?

I'd be interested to hear your findings. As for Thomann delivery, stuff I've ordered from them has normally taken about 4 working days to arrive, including a cheapo bass cab just last week lol.
Cheers

Post of the year for me that!

+1 multiplied by a big number -
Actually, I reckon the Ashdown Little Bastard would sound awesome through the S12. Hardly lightweight though. But louder than you'd think...

I've just taken delivery of one of these HB 210 cabs for gigs where im leaving stuff at the venue and not worry about it. I used it for the first time on friday night with my LB30 head. I have to say it's not bad at all. Very sold construction with a sturdy metal grill. I've had a nose inside and it's made of ply. The no name speakers are fairly hefty, and appear to have similar size magnets to some celestions ive seen before. I doubt they are particularly efficient, or have much excursion - but sounded fine driven by the LB. The tweeter is not harsh, and the variable control is effective. For the price and almost disposable nature I'm considering getting another and having a vertical 4x10 stack.

Any update on the mobile site at all?

You know, I really must have a go on a Rikky before I die.... -
I've not really followed these new Prometheans much, but just had a nose about and they look rather neat. Mind you, it's the first time I've seen an amp with a 'Phat' control. Now if they could do one with a 'Talent' control, I'd be sorted...
-
Yes I've always considered BFB to be a bargain, considering what you get. Expensive compared to mainstream? perhaps. But still a bargain.
-
Out of those options I'd go TB500, or even the 1000. It could easily become your Plan A, though.
Father Christmas, please bring me....
