Liking the sound of the Streamliner and Little Mark 3/Little Rocker. The valve stages interest me and it looks like it can do lots of sounds from valvey to more hifi. Looks like it's simple to dial in as well. I've got the tonehammer pedal already. I'm 350 miles north of you Thunderpaws so Bassdirect aint an option!

I'd prefer onboard compressor but I would also consider an amp with a separate pedal. I would go up to £800. Don't like the Ashdown stuff sorry. Doesn't have to be really light but don't want heavy either so all-valve is out.

My TE AH300SMX has died and I'm looking for a new head. Mostly play rock with a US P Deluxe and an 8 ohm Eden Nemesis 4x10 cab. I used the no 2 preshape on the TE which gave me a sound I liked pretty much most of the time. My requirements would be 300W minimum, decent onboard compressor, not over-complicated eq, quality DI. So far I've been looking at RH450, Eden WT series, Markbass. Some reviews of RH450 say they are fussy with cab matching. Money is not a concern, within reason. I would welcome any thoughts and advice Cheers Iain
Right now I'm planning my lessons for this year and contacting some local players to find out where they bought their double basses I'm researching the websites you provided, and came across with this Cristopher (http://www.thomann.d...3_4_b_stock.htm), it looks nice! Although my price limit is 4500gbp, I would be much happier if I could find a 2500gbp great bass... Any thoughts on this particular bass?
I played one of these as a rental bass in the US and my impressions were of a well-constructed instrument that played very nicely. Sounded very decent acoustically as well. It's all in the set up though. No feedback problems but this is so variable with combinations of pickups, amps, going through foldback, stage volume, etc. My personal experience is that a solid wood bass doesn't necessarily feed back any more than a ply one, but I'm sure there'll be plenty of other players with an opposing experience! There's plenty of discussion on the merits of Christopher basses on talkbass.com. Iain

I've got a Michael Poller solid wood flatback. Nice tone and fairly balanced. Not the loudest bass but I think it could do with a visit to the luthier for a tweak or two.Check that the back braces are not going slack on the back by tapping on the back and playing vigourously-you'll hear buzzes. Also check joint between neck and fingerboard is straight by looking from scroll end. The woods are pretty decent in these basses with fairly fine-grained tops. I paid £1200 for mine, so you're in the right ballpark if it's a decent bass. Good luck Iain

I put the Spiros on and there are no problems so I'm a happy bunny.

They make good sledges as well

I've currently got Silver Slaps D & G but am going to fit Spiro Weichs. I'll have to fill in my string grooves a bit & refile new slots. Has anyone here done this, and if they have, what's the best way forward? Also I read that string clearance at the nut should be a "business card". Does this mean credit card? Thanks Iain

I would go down Broadway, find Robert's Bar(opposite Ernest Tubb's record shop), buy a PBR and enjoy some great music. No cover fees in most of the bars but a donation is appreciated. Only had 2 days so never got to tour the area. Next time hopefully. Look out for Greg Garing who is a star, also Kenny Vaugan on guitar.

26 & 25 for me. Quite tricky

For classic rock sound select preshape 2 with the preshape button on.This takes out the graphic but in most situations it isn't required.Set low end cop at 10-12 and high end at 8.Then use the eq balance for tone depending on room. Works well for me and bass players always complement me on the tone/cut.Using a P bass deluxe and a Eden Nemesis 4 x 10 cab Iain
Thanks Iain, much appreciated. I've always wanted to visit Orkney - anywhere that had a ruler called Thorfinn Ravenfeeder must be a great place to hang out
I know him as Thorfinn Skullsplitter.Drinks in the same pub as me sometimes!

Ultralights are very light and may be lacking in tone.I had mediums but found the gauge a bit daunting. So lights it is.I think Bob Gollihur says something similar on his site about Eurosonics, which is the same string. Iain

Really fancy trying some Silver Slaps or Super Silvers on my bass for slap/pizz but I'm not sure which.I've currently got Braided solos fitted which are just a bit too high tension for easy slap.I think the neck angle is quite high and gives my bass a bit more tension than normal.Think I'll go for D & G first,so any ideas as to the best match?
The 'Orkney' thing is a well-known technique designed to discourage viewing before purchase. It's a scam.
Time to call on the more northern members of the brotherhood! -
I've got one, I think it was yours Roger. I bought it to try on my Eminence on Gareth's recommendation but didn't get round to it. It's on my big Hungarian bass, it sounds ok but very low output compared to realist / bassmax etc
I'd be running it through a Headway EDB1 so hoping the low output wouldn't be too much of an issue

Does anyone have experience of this pickup, and if so,what do they think of it? Iain

For me it's the link between "Do you Wanna" & "Death And Night And Blood" Bit specific I know but it does it for me
A cello is a bass violin, since it plays the bass lines e.g. in chamber music. If you need to double the bass up in an orchestral setting, and play bass notes an octave lower, you have a double bass, hence the name.
This is correct
