2.
Very nice
3. Will do, I just have to find one. A new Fender one is £56!
Nice score, especially if you got a bit of a bargain. Post some pics when you the tort pg on.
4. The neck is noticeably thinner than my MIM rw jazz neck and the whole thing is much lighter too!
5. Well, I didn't expect to have another bass this week but you know how it goes... A friend has had this bass for 30+ years and I have used it once and did try to buy it. He knew it was a Squier JV so wasnt prepared to give it away. I wasn't prepared to pay top dollar for it as it was 'tired' so we didn't agree on a price. He used to have several rehearsal studios and this was a studio bass for all to use, hence its condition. He contacted me a few days ago and offered it to me, the price was right and now its here. Pics: This is as i collected it. Squier and Fender on the headstock Shame someone tried to scratch it off vintage style reverse tuners. JV serial number vintage threaded saddles Date reads 21st July 1983 - I think! EX is for export, no idea what the 8 is though no idea, i think it reads 88 Pickups have copper shielding and cloth covered wires. The copper strip from the bridge to bridge pickup has been broken. Cloth covered wires are still intact. The control plate and pots are not originals though. So there you have it. Not too bad and it didn't cost silly money. It needs a really good clean! Then I have a stack-pot control plate to go on it which although not original, should work well. I need to source a suitable tort scratchplate (anyone got out there got one?) and it will be good to go. I cant wait.
6. look up, its at the top next to blog
7. I will take the Boss OC-2 Fully working but cosmetically looking a bit ghetto, lots of chips hence the price but as stated works perfectly with no issues £35 thanks
8. Cool, good luck and enjoy.
9. I have tried it but its not for me. Hanging on a wall they do look great.
10. Hasn't it worn off because its really old?
11. +1
12. Was it walnut rather than rosewood?
13. I recently bought a jazz bass kit from John. Excellent service as always. Will undoubtedly use his services again in the future.
14. Not really. A little sanding was required on the widest part of the neck and the scratchplate needed relieving. I was pleasantly surprised.
Any problems fitting the neck?
15. I just realised I can post this in here as well as the Precision thread! Here is my newly built Frankenstein P bass. Squier 80's Jazz neck, I bought it half sanded with no decal. I finished sanding it, lacquered it with satin nitro cellulose and added a really crap Fender decal. (So no one thought i was trying to pull a fast one) Squier VM body with tort scratchplate Kiogon wiring, pots and knobs Seymour Duncan spb-3 quarter pounder It plays great and sounds awesome. I could swap the bridge for something chunkier and add the strap button on the headstock, apart from that I think this is my go to bass for the foreseeable...
16. with a huge price tag.
17. I never thought I would be posting on this thread but things have changed, a bit. I am playing in a band that does covers of punk/rock/pop tunes that were mostly played on a P bass with a pick. I am a Jazz bass die hard and thought I could just turn down the bridge pickup and get an authentic P bass sound. That didn't really work, so I started off down a road I had never been down. After a little trial and error and some sanding and painting I ended up here, and i quiet like it. Here is my newly built Frankenstein P bass. Squier 80's Jazz neck, I bought it half sanded with no decal. I finished sanding it, lacquered it with satin nitro cellulose and added a really crap Fender decal. 18. Gigged this rig again last night with my newly built Frankenstein P bass. Squier 80's Jazz neck on a Squier VM body, Kiogon wiring and SD quarter pounder. It sounded great. I am really loving the dirty gain, P bass with pick. Proper old school. Loud? oh yes.. I had to keep an eye on myself!!
