  1. A good point. The amp module appears to have gone tits-up though following connecting it to a power supply that provided 20V. Rather puzzling. Onwards and sideways.
  2. Why is it weird? Due to a bad back, I don't want to lift anything over 10kg but I'll stretch to 15 if necessary. I've already put a fair bit of money into PA gear, sod spending a significant extra amount. And I want to be able to store it somewhere in the house. All perfectly logical. Alto (and I like Alto, I have a pair of TS308s): double specified price, 30% overweight.
  3. Under 15kg and £200 and maximum of a cube 30cm on a side?
  4. You could try a headphone amp: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001118099692.html - they have input jacks so you can play along with MP3s/CDs.
  5. I'm delighted for you. I'm not a professional bass player. For me it's a hobby and it's nice to get a bit of money back for doing it. The price of your IEMs alone is more than I'd make gigging in a year. The PA (more accurately, my PA) isn't sufficient to put bass through and I'm buggered if I'm going to spend the money or provide the storage space or haul the heavy gear around or do all the drum micing in order to do that. Plus I'm not sure if the guitarists would want to give up their backline. So I'd love to go IEM with everything through the PA, but it's never going to happen.
  6. For the amp, what are your intentions? Home playing, gigging? How much room do you have and how loud do you want to go? Would just a headphone amp do? I'm a 5-string player who started on 4-strings (there weren't many 5-strings around in the 70s). I can't see any problem with starting on a 5, and short fingers shouldn't be an issue - mine aren't exactly long. Look for second-hand instruments as well as new ones - BC marketplace, Facebook, Ebay, Gumtree, Preloved. There's a lefties sub-forum which it might be worth asking in in case any lefties have skipped over this thread.
  7. Stop bringing facts into it. What we demand is rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty.
  8. I hadn't noticed that missing D in the chorus before - must have been mentally filling it in. Will have to do that next rehearsal and see if anyone notices.
  9. Now deFendered - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/275847466773. And somebody's bid at £99.
  10. I never realised there were acoustic Bongoes.
  11. I thought the intro on the "live" version was going to lead into "A Little Respect" by Erasure.
  12. Sounds a lot better without all that vocal processing on the official video on page 1 that apparently doesn't exist.
  13. It's sometimes possible to mistake the context, of course.
  14. I wouldn't describe them as dark, as I don't even know what dark means in an aural context. I thought they were somewhat lacking in clarity, a bit woolly. If mine had come with the original Barts in it, I'd have thought about the suggested change to Aguilars, but as it came with the Aguilars already in, that saved making the decision.
  15. Mine too, my fretless Thumb NT started as a fat neck fretted and got slimmed and defretted.
  16. I do believe so. Photos of him in other bands are available (see upthread).
  17. Which would allow comments to be added to each photo featuring him.
  18. Nice. Slim neck or fat?
  19. It doesn't always go right though - sometimes the performers can't hear the backing, with predictable results.
  20. I'm trying to edge the band towards doing songs that people will be familiar with but that covers bands don't often do. It's what a previous band did and that was very well received.
  21. The vocals are in a different key. See also any Smiths song.
  22. Well, I can tell it from the sound my arris makes.
