One of our guitarists won a Les Paul from there. He was a bit wary, but it turned up - very nice too, must have failed Gibson QC due to not having anything wrong with it.

The bridge position looks like it's straying close to MDP territory.

I've just knocked up a CV sequencer (awaiting a breadboard to accommodate the ESP32 a bit better than the lashup I currently use) which uses a rotary encoder for parameter selection and input. That might be an alternative to your menuing system using a keypad.

I'm in Staffordshire, less than a kilometre from Warwickshire, and maybe 10km from West Midlands. None in any of those (nor Derbyshire, Leicestershire, or Nottinghamshire). You'd think that the UK's second largest city might have the occasional gig.

ESP32s give you much more space to code in, plus they're probably cheaper than Arduino Unos and also let you have wireless and Bluetooth connectivity. I love them.

I've got a feeling that I got some from Bass Direct for a preamp that had a 4/6mm shaft. I couldn't swear to it though.

I use a Tecamp Puma 900 with a 100W BC micro cab for open mic nights. No problems.

In my case, it's not exactly manky - I just can't get the lustre on it that I can on the fretted Thumb. When I polish them (not often as I don't use them much these days), I use the Warwick lemony fresh stuff applied with some kitchen towel then polished off with a duster.

I am making progress in my own steady way. Today wasn't the ideal day to be outside cutting 22cm lengths of pipe for the ports. As the cutout for the speaker was a bit big and so the fixing holes were precariously close to the edge, I glued in some short lengths of reinforcement and then drilled for T-nuts. Remembering what had happened with the BC 112, I checked that all the T-nuts threaded up, then put them in place and tightened with the speaker in place so that if any finished up slightly skewiff they'd still go in. Still to do - put in wadding (on its way), glue in ports, put top on, round corners off, filling and sanding, and covering - I have a good-sized piece of leatherette left over from the BC micro cab which I'll use for that. Plus cut grille to size, put connector panel in, wire up speaker and put that in. Reinforcements and T-nuts placed ready for initial tightening: Box with bottom attached: Inside view:

This chap doesn't appear to be delusional about the quality of what he's turning out though, and the pricing is realistic.

I've seen mention of the Mazeti bass that was the unwilling donor for this on BC before, but I couldn't find a picture of the headstock to see how Mazeti originally strung it. Looks like it was available as a single cut and a double-cut, before this, the unkindest cut of all. Nice to see he hasn't abandoned his dangling bridge approach.

A lot of it is down to the self-confidence of the musicians involved. My current band are improving in that respect, but I've been in bands where they've felt the need to rehearse every week whether there's new material to be learnt or not, even when they were gigging a couple of times a month.

Thanks. We haven't had any, but I'm not the only band member with admin rights (and even I have been caught out recently, fortunately without bad consequences) so it seems like a good precaution.

I've only got DBEs on one of my headless basses. One of the Seis can take either DBE or conventional, and I've just moved to conventional so I can put nickel 40-130s on (it's fretless, so I thought I'd try nickels to reduce fretboard wear).

I did get to tell Dave Cousins that he was a big influence on my songwriting about 30 years ago. I'm not sure how much of a compliment he took it as, as he (and the other Strawbs) had just heard the duo I was in doing our support slot for them.
