  1. Alt text: "The ideal mix for maximum competitive cable-coiling energy is one A/V tech, one rock climber, one sailor, and one topologist."
  2. I use mine with active basses with no problems.
  3. For some reason, Zoom refuse to countenance Android apps - started with the MS-100BT, which allowed you to load effects via Bluetooth but only from iThings. I don't understand why they turn their backs on 75% of the market.

Sorted it, thanks. Now I've got to work out why the couple of leads I made with this cable two or three years ago work - either I got lucky or I read the instructions and completely forgot about them in the intervening years.
  5. I find it surprising that after 40 years of manufacturing, still 90% of people can't spell "Squier". Is it really that hard?
  6. The bridge saddles are rather odd. The bass string is central and the octave strings are to the left of it (or above it, depending on your perspective) rather than the first octave being central and the bass and second octave being either side of it. That strange horn arrangement made me think it was a leftie at first.
  7. You mean the way that every manufacturer of 8, 10, and 12 string basses does it is wrong? https://duckduckgo.com/?q=12-string+bass&iax=images&ia=images
  8. Thanks for that explanation of the double-action truss rod - it's effectively a turnbuckle then. I do have a conundrum here - a Sei headless, where the adjuster (in the headpiece) is as near as it could possibly be to the bottom of the neck (come to think of it, you've met the bass in question, although the necessary work was at the body end). Adjustment is contrariwise - I have to do it fairly regularly so I'm certain of that. I can't see how the truss rod could be installed the wrong way up, so could it be that some truss rods have the l/h and r/h threads at the opposite ends to others?
  9. You do know that the full weight of the Basschat Thought Police will be dropped on you from a great height, don't you? I had the audacity to say that some of his stuff was twee and cheesy a few years ago, never thought I'd hear the end of it. He has undoubtedly come up with some good stuff, but then again Nilo has occasionally written a coherent and logical sentence. I'm unwilling to subject myself to his entire oeuvre in order to work out what proportion is really good stuff and what is twee filler. IMNSHO.
  10. It looks quite well done, although totally inappropriate. Rather like Satan doing his furnishing at Ikea (the only thing Satan ever did with Ikea was design the store layout).
  11. I agree with BRX. Better than both would be a Schaller 3D. Option 2 is less unpleasant to the eye than option 1, which looks like somebody trapped in a bass bridge factory was trying to write a "HELP" message in Morse code but for some reason only managed "ET".
  12. Neither. They're not headless bridges.
  13. That's a CT100. It has that nice handy display that shows you what's connected to what. The CT200 is a different kettle of fish. Microprocessor controlled, it scans the connections and tells you what's what. More connection types than the CT100. CT100 does XLR, mono & stereo jacks, RCA phono, and MIDI. CT200 does the above, plus USB (type B only though), Speakon, 3.5mm mono/stereo jacks, and RJ45 ethernet cables. If you're testing jack-jack mono cables, it shows a ring to ground short, which is logical.
  14. You should take a helicopter view of it, for the blue sky thinking. I'm so glad to be retired.
  15. I've recently bought one. Not used at a gig yet though. Something that doesn't seem to have been mentioned yet is relative practicality of various wirelesses for standalone or pedalboard use. The Line 6 G30/G50, the Smoothhound, and the Harley Benton all have receivers powered from external PSUs which makes them handy for pedal boards where you don't have to take the receiver off the board or furtle around with USB cables to charge it. The double bugs like the Lekato are very handy for standalone applications because you don't have to connect a PSU to the receiver, just plug it into the amp or whatever minimal effects you're using.
  16. Looks like I'm the poor relation with a mere XR12, which was all I thought I'd need (mind you, I think it's still all I need as things stand). The software has been a bit of a steep learning curve - I'm going to try the mixingstation app to see if that's simpler.
  17. He could have Jools Holland in as a guest for that one.
  18. So every one of his marketing emails contains a photo of himself?

That's probably it, it's awaiting my tender ministrations at the moment.
  20. Let's face it, for many of us on BC 3.5 years represents a considerable proportion of the remainder of our allotted span. The youth of today may desire instant gratification but it's us old ones who genuinely need it.
  21. Of course, it's not just the bass that should have both form and function.

I've just managed to solder up a 30cm jack to jack lead and finish up with there being a resistance of 7k between tip and sleeve, so you need to revise your estimate of my soldering ability downwards.

On second thoughts - over 450 solder joints. I've got a better chance of being the next man to set foot on the Moon than make 450 faultless solder joints.

I'm feeling tempted by the Xenotron Modulation Machine, which is even more ambitious than the L4.
  25. Sub Zero seems to manage it every other word. Thus far, I think he's avoided using it to customers of the bank for which he handles calls.
