  1. I should clarify on the active/passive thing - I meant how the speaker is used rather than what sort of bass is going in, so the speaker can be connected either to an external amp or use the internal board. Using a USB power pack, it would be possible to leave the power pack permanently in the speaker and have a USB connector to charge it.
  2. Has Gary Glitter started producing music videos?
  3. I think this may be the widget you want: https://www.electronics-lab.com/simple-adapter-board-turns-usb-c-power-supply-variable-voltage-source/ So it would be possible to fit a USB-C power bank, one of these boards, and a TPA3118 into a micro cab, with a USB connector and a jack socket on the back panel, and have a portable powered speaker. And a switch to allow switching between active and passive.
  4. 1A - enough for POC purposes. I've got a couple of 18V packs for a cordless drill which could be pressed into service too, I think it would just need two spade terminals to a DC power connector.
  5. Incidentally, a fretless Precision is rather an oxymoron as the Precision name was bestowed upon it by St Leo because it had frets so bass players would get the notes right.
  6. I've got a Hotone Thunder Bass and was given a 4000mAh USB power bank for Christmas, plus I'm almost at the end of building the house jam micro cab. So I've just ordered a couple of step-up modules from Ebay (a fiver for two) so as to experiment and see if I have the perfect ultra-portable rig.
  7. Early Tecamp Puma 900s didn't have fans. I think the later ones do, and early ones can be modded to have one, but it's something like a 30mm fan so there's no fan noise. Not sure if the smaller Pumas have fans at all.

Someone's already done it for you. https://tagboardeffects.blogspot.com/2012/02/john-hollis-flatline-compressor.html
  9. Dad was the one who did most music listening - it was almost all classical. I was born in 1957, and in my early teens I listened to Radio 1 and some Radio Luxembourg, and by my late teens liked Focus, T Rex (and Tyrannosaurus Rex), Queen, Yes, and Pink Floyd, all of which I still like. The main legacy of dad's collection is Flanders and Swann.
  10. Lots of reverb IRs now available - https://www.guitarworld.com/news/mod-audio-reverb-plugin-convolution-impulse-response
  11. You said "Why is it so hard to save a bit more and buy some quality?". So you're talking about the cost to the customer, not the component or assembly cost.
  12. Are you sure that wasn't pilot error? Why are you associating China only with cheap goods? iPhones aren't exactly cheap and they're made in China.
  13. Yes, I think that's what it is. Neck pocket is loose, tuners feel quite nice. It joins the project pile.
  14. Well, I suppose if you listen carefully... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/354580643614
  15. On the lined versus unlined debate: my first three fretlesses were unlined, the next couple were defretted but with filler that was quite close to the fretboard colour, and I currently have four - a lined Sei Original, an edge-marked Ibanez SRF705, and an unlined Warwick Corvette (all 5-strings) and a Warwick Thumb 4-string which was one of the defretted ones but which I've since had a new plain fretboard fitted to. I'd prefer unlined but I can disregard the lines (I don't look at the front of the neck when I'm playing) and I had the dots on the Sei moved to the "fret" positions.
  16. Really? I had been playing for a year with one band before they realised I was using a fretless.
  17. I would like to try an F Bass because Scott said it had the nicest neck he'd ever played. Just curious as to whether our opinions coincide, and whether it would meet with Brasso's approval.
  18. And cut the headstock off. I can't take anyone seriously who has a bass made with a headstock.
  19. JG said he wanted a standard series signature bass so it would be more affordable. I looked at the Fodera website and all their Standard series are $1000. Well, that does look like the Squier of the boutique bass world, until you read more closely and find that that's just the deposit and they're actually $5500 plus shipping.
  20. The teacher in South Park. I had a look at the list of artists on the F Bass website. Janek Gwizdala isn't on there, but Chelsea Gwizdala is. As it's quite an unusual surname, I wondered if she's his wife, sister, or alter ego. And why aren't F Bass prouder of him? The video does imply that he hasn't left F Bass (yet).
  21. Stick with a 5. There are defretted instruments (some done well, some not) and new instruments. I'd say the same as @Smanth and go with a Harley Benton, there's two - the B-550FL and the HBZ-2005FL, which are both rated about the same on Thomann. The alternative is something defretted (which you'd really need to check out in person to make sure it's a decent job) or a second-hand fretless 5. The Ibanez SRF705 is very nice but £500+ second-hand.
  22. Does that mean that women's [1] heads get wider when they lie down? [1] And men's, when they are sufficiently obese
  23. The Gorilla Glue is really cráp for this purpose - it expands quite a bit so even after smoothing out the wrap, it ends up somewhat lumpy. Not the glue's fault at all, I just used the wrong glue for the application. If I was to do this again (and wild horses wouldn't make me I think it's unlikely), I'd use something that squishes out better. The last few edges I'm doing with Bostik general purpose PVA glue - I'll see how that goes. It looks OK from a distance, I shall either never take it out of the house or put a cordon 5m from it to prevent close inspection. The PVA will take 24 hours to cure so there's about 17 hours to go to find out how successful that is.
