GR Bass AT500 (or 800) Cube. Under 10kg for a 500W combo (the 800 is still 500 but allows you to add a second cab if you want to cut the front row of the audience down).

Easy songs causing trouble. Is it just me?

The bassline on that is another one that's not that simple, especially the timing round the start of the chorus. -

We started out as a five piece band. One of the factors in getting rid of one guitarist is that he could not play the intro to Paranoid, and despite me explaining to him what he was doing wrong (which included a wrong note) he couldn't get it right. That aside (the intro is pretty simple), the bass line has quite a few variations and I can just about play it with fingers at the original speed (I have fairly slow fingers). -
What's wrong with nails?

That would be a rather long strap, at 0.1 furlongs.

How do we get ourselves and our rigs to rehearsals or gigs?
tauzero replied to kwmlondon's topic in General Discussion
Drive to gigs (I'm the PA supplier as well). Drive to rehearsals which are 20 miles away. With a band which used to have its own rehearsal room, I left a bass at the rehearsal room and travelled by motorbike (car if it was really wet), which was enjoyable as it was a nice ride. -
You forgot to ask about the batteries, and which equipment would need them.

I actually have one of these sitting behind me as I type: The Variax bass isn't MIDI. The Sonuus B2M isn't that great. I'm just about to fit a Roland GK-3B onto a 6-string bass but I won't be using it for MIDI, just for processing through a GR-55. The Industrial Radio MIDI basses are probably the best bet - there have been other split fret switching instruments too.

Remember to look at the audience. Had I followed my own advice, I wouldn't have missed seeing the young lady in the red dress jiggle so enthusiastically at our first gig that she jiggled herself out of the top of it. Take a couple of spare leads (the guitarist is bound to need one) and spare batteries for everything that needs them. Get packed up in good time.

Other than setting up two different patches and switching between them? You could use snapshots - set up a patch with parallel effects chains and take one snapshot with the effects on the first effects chain on and the second off, then vice versa for the second snapshot. Actually, the effects chains could be in series if using snapshots.

No, get a bit of brass sheet and make a surround up for the bridge pickup, assuming it's just a flat rectangular plate with holes in it.

How much disconnecting did you do to get the body stripped? Just pickups, or jack socket and battery clip too?

Midlands : shop / retailer with lots of jazz basses to try
tauzero replied to Jolltax's topic in Bass Guitars
There is a clean air zone in Birmingham - GuitarGuitar is outside it, PMT is just inside it, Fair Deal is squarely inside it. If you're in a non-compliant car, that's £8. -
But why bother saying so?

Ashbory style (rubber strings) replacement machine heads.
tauzero replied to TheGreek's topic in Accessories and Misc
Is it early (banjo tuners) or later (conventional tuners)? I bought some years ago, can't remember where it was from but I suspect it was Large Sound who no longer sell them. Someone on Talkbass recommends the Kala U-Bass tuners - search for "ashbory bass tuners" on TB, the tuners themselves can be found at https://kalabrand.com/collections/u-bass-parts -
Also self-taught, with a smattering of musical theory from violin lessons, and another one who moved from guitar to bass. I've picked up more theory since then and I don't think I developed any bad habits.

Speaker cable question (running 2x big twin 2 gen3..)
tauzero replied to Benji85's topic in Amps and Cabs
Just as a minor point, I think you're understating the output of a bass. I've found it's in the order of 100-200mV. I suspect the interface between preamp and power amp is generally line level (not sure if that's 1V or slightly more) so the first stage gain would have to be more like 5 or 10 times. -

Just searching for 7660 on PedalPCB I found quite a few references, many mentioning the 7660SCPAZ. I've found the meanings of the suffix letters after the S - C is temperature range (0-70 deg C), PA is package (8-pin DIP), Z is Pb-free. So it's just the S that matters as long as it's an 8-pin DIP. Ah, just found this: "Use your digital multimeter to make sure you have a connection between pin 1 and pin 8 on your charge pump IC. If that is connected and you are hearing a whine you likely have bad chips and can fix your problem by replacing them with something from another source." Can't post a link to it (it's verboten, don't know whether by BC or PedalPCB) but if you search for 7660 it's a topic called "Problem IC Sunflower Fuzz". So maybe you have a duff 7660. I haven't really used mine so don't know if I have the same issue.

Just checked and pins 1 and 8 are connected so it should be running at 35kHz.

Also https://www.renesas.com/us/en/document/dst/icl7660s-icl7660a-datasheet - under Features, bullet point 4 - "Boost Pin (Pin 1) for Higher Switching Frequency" and the table on page 3 also includes that Mine's also a 7660S. Will stick the meter on it tomorrow and see what pin 1 is at.
