  1. Pat Badger sounds like a fairly risky action. Perfect for someone living on the edge.
  2. Mass produced basses are bound to have that, as black goes with everything and it would knock prices up to do something different. Luthier-built basses are a bit different in that they're not coming off a production line. However, how do you do the pickup? Commercially available soapbars are black rectangles, which have been encapsulated in resin. Options: put them in the bass as they are, put them inside little wooden coffins and put those in the bass, make your own pickups. Mostly it's the first option, Jaydee I think went with the second, not sure about the third - Enfield perhaps? Going with the first option means you're routing out standard sized holes, and somewhere down the line if someone wants to change pickups, they can. Not sure if putting a veneer cover on a pickup would look OK - maybe I'll try some <Blue Peter> sticky back plastic</BP> on one of mine.
  3. Almost time for the February abstinence thread.
  4. How much does it hurt her to use the finger for fretting? If she's not using the very tip, it shouldn't be putting too much pressure on the ouch bit. Coincidentally, I tore the nail on the middle finger of my right hand a week ago, which made plucking with that finger uncomfortable for a few days. OK now though. Average rate of growth is around a tenth of a mm per day (however, mine seems to have grown 2mm in a week).
  5. I have a 1987 Warwick JD Thumb which has a lovely slim neck. I bought a 2000 Thumb which has a far thicker neck and had it defretted and the neck reprofiled to be the same as the JD Thumb. There was a slight issue as the 2000 has a volute which goes over the end of the trussrod and removing this broke through into the trussrod channel, but Joe fixed this (and later Jon Shuker did too when he replaced the wenge unfretboard with a plain ebony one).
  6. You just need the bit inside the <img></img> tabs.
  7. I used a 5-string set on my Status, and also on my Hohner B2AV, and a Sei headless. No problem.
  8. For some reason, this hasn't cropped up yet: When's it due to give birth?
  9. Plus another couple where the item was broken but they got a refund. Definitely someone not to buy from.
  10. He also builds high quality bass-shaped teapots. I rather like some of the ones on that scam site. I don't like them £3k+ much though.
  11. I encountered this using a medium current power bank - using the super duper one, it coped fine. PS. I think there would be room for a power bank under there too, so you could make it a freestanding board with just input and output wires.
  12. Height adjustable nut - like a Warwick Just-A-Nut? Clones available on AliExpress at negligible prices. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007360287741.html
  13. I think that knot is a nice bit of character.
  14. Haven't got anything with MK-1s in at the moment but the Cort Space with them in, they sounded neutral - they just reproduced the vibrations of the strings without coloration.
  15. It's lovely, but could I have one fewer strings and split them across two necks, one fretted and the other fretless? And not fan fret either, ta.
  16. He played for Simple Minds?
  17. I think they're already in the hideous headstocks thread.
  18. Obviously Sire are to be applauded for bringing out some headless models. They have the same multiscale lengths as Ibanez EHB with no non-fan-fret option as yet. I'll be interested in playing one and seeing if the neck profile is different to the EHB.
  19. You could use a wax repair stick to fill the multiple holes pretty much invisibly. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325271292000
  20. Gary Willis? While it's just the one manufacturer AFAIK, there's a vast range of Gary Willis basses from them. Could I give an honourable mention to Brian May, who has a bass in his Brian May instruments range despite not exactly being renowned as a bassist.
  21. It's the Faital Pro 12PR320. Faital say it's 300W AES power handling, 600W max power, which would be the equivalent of the Silverstone - original post edited for that.
  22. It is easier to ask for forgiveness than to get permission.
  23. Controls look a bit complicated.
  24. That would make life simpler, but possibly less fun. Tier 1 would have to include major bitsa components to avoid sneaking in a bass in parts, but the issue then becomes which parts are major?
