  1. The Pro Micro can also be used - I've got one set up as a mouse jiggler.
  2. Gumtree, Facebook, Bandmix (although you have to pay to contact them on Bandmix).
  3. The comparison between the two of them may be seen by analogy in Thunderbirds, series 2 episode 2, in which a nuclear powered logging machine with doors that can only be opened from the inside and an incredibly long and complex shutdown sequence runs out of control. MDP is the one who would come up with the idea for it and can'trememberhisname is the one who would build it. MDP's handiwork (search ebay for "perfect balance bass"):
  4. It's got impressive capabilities but, as has been said, it's a niche product. It may be easy to use, but for simple control, it's easy and far cheaper to make your own or, failing that, go for a Morningstar. If you're sending a sequence of MIDI commands, wouldn't a MIDI sequencer suffice? Can't comment on the LFO side of things, that's not something I've ever done with MIDI.
  5. I always do. Got to keep the testers on their toes.
  6. That's the book that caused me to use this username.
  7. All P basses look the same to me, regardless of colour. Ditto J basses.
  8. If they're Si diodes, and assuming that this is pickup-level rather than line-level, I would have thought they were there for protection as they'd clip at 1.2V p-p and a bass outputs about 150mV p-p.
  9. Apart from the looks, and the fact that because the body is asymmetric at the tuner end so there aren't two strap pegs to stand it on, whoever strung it desperately needs a set of wire cutters.
  10. I think with Americana you're allowed to play more than root and 5th.
  11. Have you got both metric and imperial sets?
  12. When did the Line 6 G30/G50 start using a stereo plug for powering? My G50 certainly doesn't. I've only ever used active basses with it. No problems with high-pitched whistling. However, my dirt cheap Muslady branded bug type transmitter/receiver has given a high pitched whistle on occasion - it only seems to do so in one rehearsal studio, and I can get rid of it by rotating the transmitter in the bass's output socket.
  13. That's because everybody wants their basses to sound exactly the same.
  14. The Alpher seems to have taken a little inspiration from the Musicman Big Al. Doesn't do it for me, but I agree that it's nice to see someone doing something different.
  15. The band I'd been playing in until the end of last year, when the singer started having mental health issues, finally played again last night. The singer and keyboard player had separate slots at a beer festival, which they decided to combine, and I decided to turn up too and see if they wanted me to join in. When I got there, I found that the percussionist (who suffered a heart attack a little while ago, after we'd last gigged together) had also turned up. So, completely unrehearsed, and with an interval of over a year since we'd last played together (the percussionist was double booked for the last gig so we'd got a dep in), we weighed in. Went down an absolute storm. It does help that a large part of the audience already knew us and liked us. I'm hoping that this isn't going to be a one-off. We all really enjoyed ourselves.
  16. I love basses with long horns - Sei Flamboyants, Ritter Royas, Shuker Uberhorns, and my Antoniotsai. I haven't seen many singlecuts that I like the look of.
  17. In further news, a quest for investors got them going again (or, more accurately, enabled the MOD Devices team to start again as MOD Audio). Which is nice, because I've just bought a MOD Dwarf from Thomann. Apparently those who are waiting for Dwarfs won't be entirely let down but also won't be entirely happy, as in order to get one they'll need to pay another 150EU (which may reduce). As for the Duo X, who knows? https://forum.moddevices.com/t/mod-reboot-we-made-it/8484
  18. Although if you do want a unicorn bass, a Sei Flamboyant is pretty close.
  19. ITYM Gilmour and Waters in that last sentence, as Wright hasn't got any juices flowing any more.
  20. I was wondering about the sound for the marching band too. If they'd just had an array of fixed microphones and blended them all together, there would have been a right mish-mash of sound as the more distant mics picked up the sound later than the closer mics. I wondered if they had an array of mics and somebody operating a mixer, maintaining a volume level on one mic and then when there was no delay between that mic and the next one, blending the next one in and fading the previous one out. Maybe I'm overthinking it and they just had somebody with a mic walking close by the band but not in the procession. Or maybe they were miming.
