  1. I liked my Warwick 5-string with then paddle headstock but it was impracticably long - I could only find one stand that worked with it, and it was awkward to fit in the car (after I'd managed to find a case for it).
  2. Not Atrics? I had an Atrics double neck, 5 and 4 string - originally both were fretted but I defretted the 4-string neck. Sold it in 2009 - my notes for the Ebay description at the time mentions that the same bass was also sold as an H&S.
  3. Peavey Cirrus 5 - the 4 is 34" but the 5 is 35".
  4. Headed/headless is another consideration - two of my Seis are headless. All three were bought second-hand. So, headed/headless, fretted/fretless, number of strings, body type, facing wood, core wood, neck woods as starters. Then you have to start thinking about pickups and electronics. How many, what type, placement, any additional stuff like piezo pickups and 13-pin output. Finally there's the little extras like LED fret markers.
  5. For the battery compartment, why not just put it back in without a battery?
  6. I don't know why the Dwarf auto update was unsuccessful (I left it running for an hour or so) - just updated it manually, no problems. The Duo is an older one so I also needed to do a kernel upgrade, which I've now done and which went smoothly once I'd overcome my inability to read instructions.
  7. There's a 1.13.1 fix release out. Just updating the Dwarf now, it's taking ages.
  8. As do the words "Red, fretted and fretless." just above the picture. I had a cheapy Chinese fretted/fretless, 5 string fretted and 4 string fretless. I'd like a 5-string fretted/fretless headless but Aliexpress doesn't have any.
  9. So where does this information come from, and if it's only personal experience, what basses and wireless systems does it apply to?
  10. I have noticed that almost no guitarists use straplocks, despite the guitarists that I've played with mostly having instruments at the Les Paul/Fender Strat/PRS level of expense.
  11. I am not going to buy any more gear unless I really want to.
  12. My first decent bass, a Hayman 40/40 that I put together myself and stupidly pxed for a Precision. And a 4-string fretless bass, a Frontier, which I've never seen another one of.
  13. Are you going to do a build diary thread on it?
  14. Well, it's only got 4 strings anyway. A Buzzard replica - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325535873475 Only one slightly blurry picture on Ebay but the text mentions mormusic.com and there it is: https://www.mormusic.com/buzzard-bass-replica-custom-built/ - so it has a Buzzard rather than Warwick headstock. However, the neck joint is completely wrong. For one thing, the original Buzzard was through-neck, and the later paddle headstock Buzzards had a different neck joint too. mormusic one: Original and best with through neck: Paddle headstock neck joint (I had the 5-string version):
  15. But it goes tight enough to stop it rotating and the grub screw stops it unscrewing. If Schaller put two nuts on the old strap part to enable the nuts to be locked, it would have been better. I'm another one who's not a fan of the integrated screw and strap button. I think it's possible to get unintegrated Schaller compatible strap buttons. It's a shame they didn't continue with the old style alongside the new, they might have found what people's preferences are.
  16. I wrote my own. The admin side is a bit clunky but it's just me using it so I haven't bothered to make it look beautiful.
  17. Trying to buy something off Aliexpress (a Bluetooth MIDI adaptor, for the curious), when I clicked "Buy Now" the payment page came up and the "PAY NOW" button appeared briefly, then disappeared. I tried a different browser, tried putting it into my shopping cart, nothing worked. Searching for answers, I found that the issue might be only having PayPal as a payment method. I added a credit card as a payment method and hey presto, I could pay. I know I'm not alone in buying from Aliexpress, so thought I'd post this in case anyone else fell foul of whatever's going on.
  18. Oh, and my duo with Mrs Zero, mainly covers and a few originals - Second Time Round
  19. Band that seems to have ground to a halt following various health issues - Space Monkey (covers, primarily 80s) Originals prog band - A2rk. Named after the initials of the four founder members. Covers band just working up to gigging level - Dirty Roses.
  20. Release 1.13 came out a week ago.
  21. No they don't (sample size of 15+ active basses and 6 wireless systems).
  22. You could just leave the charger cable permanently connected to the pedal and plug it into the charger when it needs a charge.
  23. There's a thread in The Other Place about a similar issue - it seems you can't get old spares from Peavey but there was quite a good idea on an alternative cover. I suspect that part of the problem with finding a replacement is that it's not really a box, it's just a cover with a fixed frame and removable lid, which is fairly unusual. https://www.talkbass.com/threads/replace-peavey-tl-five-battery-compartment.1549341/ Come to think of it, another alternative would be to get small neodynium magnets and recess them into the outer frame in those circles just outboard of the screws, and glue some thin steel (not stainless) washers to the cover.
  24. Planet Waves embroidered straps. The only downside was playing gigs in a very hot sweaty venue on successive nights, when I didn't leave the strap out of the bass case to dry out after the first night. Putting a cold damp clammy strap on wasn't a nice experience.
  25. Needs the head chopping off.
