  1. When you say 2 x 8 ohm outputs, do you mean two speaker outputs each with a minimum 4 ohm load but with a minimum 4 ohm load overall, or do you mean two outputs each of which have a minimum 8 ohm load? If the former, you'll get the full whack from one output driving a 4 ohm cab, unless it's an Ashdown Superfly with two separate 250W power amp modules. If the latter, you'll simply blow it up if you connect the cab to the amp, regardless of how many cables you use.
  2. That's why I prefer headless basses, then you only stick it in the singer's ear if you really mean to.
  3. My Esh Poseidon V has been stuck in a cupboard for some time. I really must dig it out and give it a little love.
  4. Arduino Pro Micro does USB OTG. There's a hack for ESP32 too - https://hackaday.io/project/178213-esp32-usb-software-host
  5. Arduino? ESP32? They'll do analogue reads. The ESP32 is ridiculously comprehensive (includes wireless and bluetooth) and well under a tenner.
  6. Pros of onboard: To quote an old motoring cliche, the controls fall easily to hand with an onboard preamp. There should be less of an issue with stray noise (although shielded cables keep that down anyway. Pros of outboard: if you don't like it, you don't have to start dismantling things to change it. You can always have both, of course.
  7. Lesson 2. If you're going to give a link to a video to try to justify what you've done, make sure the video isn't private. I can't remember any pictures of Pino with a reverse-headstock bass, as it happens.
  8. If you should decide that Bluetooth would be a good idea after all because you don't need USB cables, I did do a Bluetooth page turner which would do page up/down, line up/down, and switch between windows.
  9. The Pro Micro can also be used - I've got one set up as a mouse jiggler.
  10. Gumtree, Facebook, Bandmix (although you have to pay to contact them on Bandmix).
  11. The comparison between the two of them may be seen by analogy in Thunderbirds, series 2 episode 2, in which a nuclear powered logging machine with doors that can only be opened from the inside and an incredibly long and complex shutdown sequence runs out of control. MDP is the one who would come up with the idea for it and can'trememberhisname is the one who would build it. MDP's handiwork (search ebay for "perfect balance bass"):
  12. It's got impressive capabilities but, as has been said, it's a niche product. It may be easy to use, but for simple control, it's easy and far cheaper to make your own or, failing that, go for a Morningstar. If you're sending a sequence of MIDI commands, wouldn't a MIDI sequencer suffice? Can't comment on the LFO side of things, that's not something I've ever done with MIDI.
  13. I always do. Got to keep the testers on their toes.
  14. That's the book that caused me to use this username.
  15. 🙂
  16. All P basses look the same to me, regardless of colour. Ditto J basses.
  17. If they're Si diodes, and assuming that this is pickup-level rather than line-level, I would have thought they were there for protection as they'd clip at 1.2V p-p and a bass outputs about 150mV p-p.
  18. Apart from the looks, and the fact that because the body is asymmetric at the tuner end so there aren't two strap pegs to stand it on, whoever strung it desperately needs a set of wire cutters.
  19. Don't forget the Lodestone.
  20. I think with Americana you're allowed to play more than root and 5th.
  21. Have you got both metric and imperial sets?
  22. When did the Line 6 G30/G50 start using a stereo plug for powering? My G50 certainly doesn't. I've only ever used active basses with it. No problems with high-pitched whistling. However, my dirt cheap Muslady branded bug type transmitter/receiver has given a high pitched whistle on occasion - it only seems to do so in one rehearsal studio, and I can get rid of it by rotating the transmitter in the bass's output socket.
  23. That's because everybody wants their basses to sound exactly the same.
  24. The Alpher seems to have taken a little inspiration from the Musicman Big Al. Doesn't do it for me, but I agree that it's nice to see someone doing something different.
  25. The band I'd been playing in until the end of last year, when the singer started having mental health issues, finally played again last night. The singer and keyboard player had separate slots at a beer festival, which they decided to combine, and I decided to turn up too and see if they wanted me to join in. When I got there, I found that the percussionist (who suffered a heart attack a little while ago, after we'd last gigged together) had also turned up. So, completely unrehearsed, and with an interval of over a year since we'd last played together (the percussionist was double booked for the last gig so we'd got a dep in), we weighed in. Went down an absolute storm. It does help that a large part of the audience already knew us and liked us. I'm hoping that this isn't going to be a one-off. We all really enjoyed ourselves.
