  1. The bit that the headstock is attached to is Jazz bass. Maybe there could be another decal on the body saying "Precision bass" just to confuse people.
  2. Out of curiosity, would you expect to pay the same for insurance on a ten year old Ford Fiesta as a brand new Lamborghini? If basic insurance on a Lamborghini covered you to the same value as a ten year old Fiesta, but paying out more increased the value covered to the actual value of loss, would you consider it fair or unfair that you had to pay out that extra amount?
  3. I played live on telly for Telethon 90, with the Warwick JD Thumb that I still own. It was probably about 4:30 in the morning by the time we got to play - it was supposed to be soon after midnight. The other bands that had turned up had all buggered off by then. There was also a band composed of prisoners from some gaol - I think it was called Inside Out - which, we later heard, didn't return in its entirety to the gaol, as a couple of members decided to pursue solo careers and had it away on their toes.
  4. Less conventional than playing it with a plectrum.
  5. That seems dubious, as Dr No evidently didn't possess Cluedo. If he had, in true supervillain fashion, he would have insisted on a game with Bond before sending him through the tunnel of nastiness.
  6. Maybe it's the ambiguous term "skinny" - my Thumb 5 is the same nut width as a couple of my other 5s from other makers (I can tell as I've put Just-A-Nut 1s on them) so not wide, but chubbier than them. It was more the depth than the width that I was referring to. The old 4-strings have much shallower necks.
  7. I suspect it was Sheriff John Brown, who was going to frame Bob, but it went wrong. How many roads must a man walk down?
  8. I shall have to try and find one then. My 1988 Thumb 5 has quite a chunky neck and all the other Warwick 5s I've played (mainly Thumbs, the odd other one like a Buzzard) have had fatter necks than that. And a Warwick 5 for £500?
  9. Have you got SGC Nanyo on your list yet? If you can find a second-hand one, you'll find it has a lovely neck, is very light, and sounds rather good.
  10. Probably the first MTD, the first Ken Smith, and the Mary Stick. But I wouldn't buy any of them without playing them first, as to me the most important thing is how well it plays - does the neck profile suit me? If not, it can sound like angels singing and I still won't buy it.
  11. But the fives aren't slim-necked, not even the pre-1990 ones. The early fours are though.
  12. Personally, I dislike the material he's produced post-Beatles, and generally prefer Lennon's contributions in the Beatles. But as a bassist, his influence was significant, and obviously many people disagree with my opinions because "Mull of Kintyre", "Pipes of Peace", and "The Frog Chorus" were all hits, to name but three songs that he perpetrated.
  13. If you go for a genuine 70s P, you'll find a huge variation in necks. You need to try a few.
  14. But that's only a way to distinguish drummers in general.
  15. Obviously you're now sorted - for anyone else seeking answers, I use a Tecamp Puma 900 with both a BB2 and a One10 (not at the same time) and it's lovely. YMMV.
  16. IIRC, all the DBE strings I've encountered have had smaller eyelets at the nut end than the bridge end.
  17. Pete Best played all the Beatles bass lines.
  18. For the Marillion tribute band: Line 6 G50 wireless to Zoom B3n, accompanied by a Roland PK-5A controlling a Korg Volca Bass as it's a bloody sight cheaper than a Moog, then into a little Ammoon mixer offering more control than just putting the Volca into the Aux on the B3n. For the originals band and the covers band: Smooth Hound and Zoom MS-60B. But who knows, a Line 6 HD500 might be just round the corner.
  19. I saw Are you getting the headstock reshaped?
  20. Next you'll be saying that you only bought a P to knock in tent pegs...
  21. The problem is obviously you, not the bass. Either play with your fingers or take the knobs off. 😁
  22. Level pegging now. But did I vote for steel or for steel?
