  1. We're called Dirty Roses - I think we've been asked twice if we're a G'n'R tribute (no) and we've never been asked if we're a Stone Roses tribute (still no). A former band that I joined, The Lightning, had a Facebook page that the guitarist (not the most literate person alive) had titled "The Lightning\rock\blues band,,," (yes, that is what it said, including the punctuation). Mrs Zero and I took over the page and got shot of the blues reference (and the shit punctuation), and we got more gigs. I think we left the "rock" in but I'm not certain.
  2. Use a WHAT to tighten them? Get a spanner, you wretched neanderthal (that's Scott, not @TheGreek). If you're looking at the input jack, then you have problems distinguishing a bass from an amp. It's an OUTPUT jack. And while his description of doing intonation is OK for Fender type bridges, there are other types out there. It's not a bad guide to maintenance, I'm being a bit picky - except for the spanner. Use a bloody spanner, either a proper one or an adjustable adjusted to be a snug fit. And make sure all screwdrivers, spanners, sockets (the spannery sort) and hex keys are a good fit, not a sloppy one.
  3. My nephew (very musically talented) has just joined a band. As he's down in Cornwall I don't know if I'll ever see them, but I was talking to my sister-in-law about them and she said it was proving very valuable for the mental health of all the band members (I don't know if my nephew has any great need of help with his mental health but it won't hurt).
  4. True, but OTOH Mrs Zero and I didn't always agree (or always disagree) and the fact we were a couple was never cited as a reason for anyone leaving the band. And stop calling me ducks.
  5. There's a very simple way to check if the socket wiring is right if you have a multimeter. Plug a stereo jack plug into the socket (it can be a stereo plug on a lead as long as it's stereo both ends) and measure the voltage between the ring and the sleeve. If it's 9V or so (with a new battery), the wiring is right. If it's 0V, the wiring is wrong. I've just had a thought - if the battery negative has been soldered to the sleeve and the socket has a metal outer, and there's conductive lining on the control cavity (eg copper tape), the battery will be making a permanent connection with ground - the battery should connect to the ring and the ground to sleeve.
  6. For that matter, Fender is just a gateway to proper basses.
  7. I tried both USB-A and USB-C. It's supposed to do 5V/3A but doesn't seem to. https://www.amazon.co.uk/OKZU-10000mAh-Portable-Charging-External/dp/B0C9ZR51V8
  8. Depending on the bass, it will work or it won't. If it doesn't work, you have two courses of action: Swap the negative and ground leads on the bass output socket Get a short mono male jack to female jack lead and use that to connect between the dongle and the bass
  9. After seeing it mentioned somewhere on BC, I bought one of these: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005055355118.html What I would like to do is use a USB power bank to power this (OK so far) and use it to power a small pedalboard including an HX Stomp (less OK). So, experiment time. Using an Okzu C1017 10000mAh power bank, I tried supplying the HX Stomp using a 3 into 1 DC cable to parallel the two 300mA outlets and one 100mA output. Initially I used the USB-A outlet. The powerbank displayed 188 and nothing else happened. Then I tried the USB-C outlet with the same result. I then tried running it off a mains-USB-C adaptor and it worked, and indeed continued working after I unplugged first the 100mA outlet and then the second 300mA outlet. So the power supply itself works but the power bank is inadequate, which it shouldn't really be as it's supposed to be a 22.5W charger. It's not broken - it's happily charging my phone right now as a test. Does anybody happen to know of a reasonably inexpensive USB powerbank that might work for this application?
  10. One of the very few Ashbory MkIIs in maple finish in existence (there's only another 9 in the world). Currently incoming.
  11. And a very final (probably) purchase of 2024, currently incoming so report when it gets here.
  12. The TS4 series has a Sub Size switch which allows selection of HPF frequency.
  13. Is that the Pukka Ohm GC60 combo that you're using, and if so, is the output that you're using the one on the front panel that says "Pre-amp Output"? If so, it's really quiet because that output is intended to go into a second amplifier rather than a cab. @TheGreek has owned a couple of them, he might be able to give some pointers if he hasn't completely forgotten them by now.
  14. I find this somewhat confusing. You may enter a box junction as long as either the exit is clear, or you are turning right and cannot do so due to oncoming traffic or because you're behind other traffic waiting to turn. If you enter the box junction and cannot exit due to stationary vehicles in the exit, you're guilty and bang to rights.
  15. A few years ago, I was brought into a band as a replacement for the original bassist who was unreliable and didn't want to gig anywhere more than half a mile from his house, as the guitarist and I had played together in a band ten or fifteen years before. Then the vocalist disappeared without trace and Mrs Zero was drafted in to replace him. The material gradually changed after that. Then the drummer left and we got a replacement in, a colleague of mine, which was a considerable improvement. Then the guitarist, the final original member, left, and we replaced him, and there was another shift in the material because the new guitarist, another colleague of mine, was better but also didn't want to do original material (we had a couple of originals in the set). We went through another couple of drummers and then Mrs Zero decided to give up and at that point we called a halt as we didn't want to try and find a replacement for her.
  16. Name and shame. I doubt it would affect us as we're unlikely to travel that far north, but others might benefit.
  17. It may... Might also be worth unscrewing the bridge and making sure that that end of the tape is making good contact with it.
  18. I could be replaced by any reasonable standard bassist, although some years after being kicked out of a band because the lead guitarist and drummer (brothers) wanted to bring their mate in, they tried to re-recruit me. There were a couple of bassists who had passed through the band, and the guitarist's wife told Mrs Zero that it hadn't been the same since getting rid of me. However, as the true nature of the others as a bunch of racist Islamophobes had become evident, I politely declined. As for the current band - I play, do the website, do some of the Facebook stuff, and contribute to the general melange of organisation. Oh yes, and provide the PA and lighting (such as it is). We've become quite a cohesive unit and I think losing any of us would be regrettable. No virtuosos but no weak links either.
  19. Surely you haven't already forgotten the recent direct action and burning stuff, where the stuff being burnt was asylum seekers' hostels? Be careful what you wish for.
  20. Shades of MDP? Although the neck and bridge are still in the original positions.
  21. I have a feeling that the seller was using the inches scale on his ruler rather than the centimetres one when measuring the neck length.
  22. You might prefer them to be in Norfolk, Virginia.
  23. He has a few bits of studio kit for sale too.
  24. Just thought I'd mention that Line 6 have updated the manual for both the Stomp and HX Edit to 3.80 (@Wombat has mentioned it above but just in case people missed it). Also, v3.82 of HX Edit is out.
