  1. What you want is to start with that 8-string, then add some octave courses...
  2. Shipping two cabs to Finland, booked DPD through Interparcel, stayed in all today and no sign of them.
  3. Are you me? I booked DPD via Interparcel yesterday for a pickup today, worked from home to be here, no bloody courier. Looks like it is normal.
  4. Just over a week ago, the originals band played a gig, and the second half was somewhat sloppy. So this evening, first rehearsal after the gig, the BL (singer/songwriter/guitarist completely unafflicted by the ego that one might expect him to have) comments to me that I sounded a bit dodgy on song X (I agreed, I played mostly the right notes but a few were well off), then he said to the drummer that there were a couple of songs that had slight issues - one was too fast, and in the other the drummer had started putting in a fill, the timing of which was throwing the guitarist. He wasn't making a big deal of it, just saying which songs we needed to look at and why, which was perfectly reasonable (he'd also apologised on the night for missing a line on one song which had thrown me briefly, so he's happy to acknowledge his own errors). The drummer took umbrage, which we thought initially was him joking about it but no, he went off on a rant about taking this criticism personally, packed up his sticks, pedal, cymbals, and snare, and stormed out, leaving the remaining three of us (me, BL, and slide guitarist) somewhat open-mouthed. Not sure whether he's definitely gone for good, but with a gig coming up on Friday which we don't want to cancel, the slide guitarist who also plays drums is going to step in and we'll be back to a three-piece.
  5. I'm on my second one of these: https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_guitar_stool.htm Works well for me. The first one eventually suffered a failure when the welds holding the footrest bar gave way (I had been using it to push myself up with many, many times) - just meant it became a bit wobbly and I didn't have a footrest, and I decided to replace it.
  6. One of the bands I'm in is an originals band, and I've been using a 10-string on some recordings that we've done recently. However, for live purposes, I think I'll be sticking with a 5 but with an octave-up on one of the Zoom pedals.
  7. So that isn't what they mean when they ask you to do your favourite number?
  8. Like I say, when I turned the tweeter all the way down, I got the treble. I hadn't got much room to manoeuvre and the cab was close to the wall, and I hadn't looked at the pretty picture on the back before putting it there. Now I know what I'm doing (at least with regard to which way to turn the knob, the bit about sticking your fingers on the fretboard in the right place is still a bit of a mystery). It'll get a run out on the 25th.
  9. Make badge with neodynium magnet on back. For steel grilles, put feet up - job done. For cloth grilles, put steel bolts at strategic places on front baffle. My consultation fee is a Big Baby II.
  10. The club band I was in had a set list that remained static for my entire career with them (several years), plus a few subsequent deps I did for them. OTOH, the covers band that folded a year back had coming on for 50 songs and we used 30+ of them in a gig, so we'd swap most of them round - we would keep a couple of songs in the same place though, as they made good end-of-first-set songs or they were flipping Sex On flipping Fire or Daf*ckingkota so they went in around the tail end of the second set.
  11. Having heard so much in favour of Barefaced, and having actually bought a one10, and seeing as my poor old bones are feeling the weight even of Berg AE112s, I thought I'd keep a lookout for a Big Baby II, which seemed to be what I needed for the rock bands (the one10 is great for the acoustic band but with no tweeter, it lacks the bite I want for the rock bands). Managed to snag one on That Ebay, and although it was collection from somewhere near the South Coast, the seller also journeyed up to the Midlands regularly and so it was that we did the deed in the car park of the National Motorcycle Museum. I did an A/B against one of the Bergs and thought it seemed rather lacking with bite, even when I turned the tweeter all the way up. Then I tried turning the tweeter all the way down, and the treble arrived. That's the trouble with doing things by feel. It seems to have what I want from a cab, good range, thick bottom end, good bit of bite, and goes pretty loud. I'm toying with the idea of using the one10 as a monitor by angling it upwards - suppose it depends on how loud I want to go. Nice and light too, though a bit bigger than an AE112. Roqsolid cover on the way. Now to sell a pair of Bergs...
  12. So it's a Hendrix style guitar for a right-hander - a left-hander strung upside down rather than a right-hander strung upside down. Can't see what's wrong with that, although it's a crappy Encore so does miss out somewhat on the Strat vibe...
  13. I do remember one entirely live performance on TOTP:
  14. Gene Pitney? I remember that...
  15. A fight case? Should come in handy for those rough pubs.
  16. Where the inventor of the bicycle bell came from. (Thank you, Spike Milligan).
  17. I've got a Dean Edge 10 which I've just been using for a couple of recordings. Must compare the sound with the sound of a similar 12 sometime (so as to reduce the differences from different electronics, pickups, etc), and also work out if I actually use all 5 courses most of the time. Mind you, for practicality, I'm going to just use an octave-up effect to get a similarish sound to the 10-string live - at least until I can get a 10-string headless Sei.
  18. Ah yes, Kramers with aluminium necks. Just as pig ugly as any other headstock.
  19. All headstocks are the spawn of Satan. Although they do come in handy if you're using wall hangers for your basses.
  20. Butt ugly? Oh, hang on... I see what you mean.
