1. As the covers band I've been playing with for several or eightal years is folding, I'm on the lookout for something else. Anything considered, both covers and originals. I'm in Tamworth, which puts Birmingham, Lie Sester, Nottingham and other places within 40 miles in reach. Good gear (note: I don't own, nor do I contemplate owning, any Fender-like instruments), own transport, all my own teeth and some of my own hair. Examples of my playing can be found at http://tauzero.co.uk/music/index.html
2. Has anyone mentioned http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izNxtsC1b4k yet?
3. Alternatively, copy the direct link (http://i.imgur.com/xxxxx.jpg), click on the little square icon two to the right of the links of chain that looks vaguely like a picture, and paste the link into the dialogue box that pops up.
4. I've had several Mondeo estates, which are great, and currently have a Vectra estate, which isn't - load space is fine but the trim on the backs of the rear seats is held on by bits of plastic pushed into channels, which pop out as soon as you load stuff into it. Plus the tailgate switch stopped working just after I'd loaded up for a gig, so had to unload at the venue, load back up, and unload when I got back home through the back doors. The Vectra's steering pump failed and the garage lent me a Renault Megane estate while they fixed it. What a dreadful thing that was, and only marginally bigger than a Metro. Hated the stupid handbrake on it. Two members of the ceilidh band I was once in had a Zafira, which was an unreliable piece of crap. Then they got another one, which was an unreliable piece of crap. So I've decided that Zafiras aren't for me.
5.
My issue is that I also play in a 'Classic Rock' covers band and as yet, have restrained from introducing them to the Ibanez, purely because I don't think that the 'fancy woods' look looks right in a rock band. I'd be interested in everyone's thoughts
I will only play basses with fancy woods in rock bands. Those painted things look crap.
6. Is there likely to be a Bass Bash X in 2017, Alan?
7.
Edit: Oh and Tauzero - if you fancy bringing your Buzzard along I'd love to see that again
Sorry, the Buzzard has gone, replaced by the Esh, which itself will be going at some point as I just got the Sei Flamboyant 5 to add to the other two Seis. So I could have 3 Seis there now.
8. Sadly, there was enough time for Red Red f***ing Whine.
9.
Crikey, now that is ballsy! Where do you keep the other two hidden?
They're consecutive rather than concurrent.
10. How could I forget? Child Star by Tyrannosaurus Rex namechecks Debussy, Mendlessohn, Handel, and Dvorak, while Ballrooms of Mars by T Rex has namechecks for Bob Dylan, Alan Freed, and John Lennon.
11. 4-string - pickup cover. 5-string - pickup cover or B string. Also occasionally (with either) the side of the neck, if for some reason I'm plucking that far from the bridge. I also use a classical guitar technique, playing with thumb and two fingers (I have some sort of mental block on this, playing guitar I use thumb and three fingers) in which case my entire hand position changes.
12.
Nope. I'm one of the lucky ones that has escaped marriage. Living happily with 13 basses.
I have about 15 basses and 13 motorbikes and just the one wife. Admittedly she is number 3, but she's put up with me for 12 years now.

14.
I've never seen a twin neck that I've liked the look of. The headstocks always look like they're just two separate necks bolted onto a body rather than been designed as a pair with some sort of symmetry. Maybe somebody should make a L/R necked twin neck.
Headless would be even better. Oh, look: although I prefer parallel necks (which they do too). And they're composite so they keep the weight below 6kg.
15. Our guitarist uses one which doesn't seem to me to be too intrusive, mainly because it connects to his multieffects and sets up the appropriate patch for each song. Not sure how much he relies on it for the chords, I don't think he does so noticably though. Well, I don't notice him using it.
16.
I wonder if his next door neighbour Liberace helped him out?
Nono, it was Liberache he lived next to, and presumably Liberpain was on the other side.
17.
What? "Creosoting a rhinoceros"? I'd dearly love to know what it puts you in mind of.
Well, there's spanking the monkey and bashing the bishop, so I thought creosoting the rhinoceros might be another one of that ilk. Of course, there's always the chance it will become one, and in the future we'll hear sentences like "That Zander Starr, what a rhinoceros creosoter he was".
18.
Sorry I can't right now as I'm creosoting a rhinoceros...
Is that some new euphemism?
19.
Thanks all, I've been reading over and checking the options. Some extra but relevant info is that his Girl is a singer/key player so it would be cool if he could play along if need be.
Roland Bass Cube for an amp if he'll need to be audible to her. Or a GK MB150 if one turns up dirt cheap. Peavey Grind 5 (cheap) or Hohner B2V or B2AV (more expensive but takes up the least room).
20.
The Hootenanny show should be fine. A lot of quality and talented people have died this year.
It's not unusual for quality and talented people to be in the audience or even interviewed on the Hootenanny show. Now they've got the check for George Michael too.
21. One of the reasons I wanted to be up on a stage playing a guitar.
22. Will the production team have been combing through the recording, checking whether anybody is visible who's died since it was recorded? At the rate they've been dropping off the twig, there's plenty of potential for embarrassment.
23. I have one of the Wilkinson 4+1 bridges, currently fitted to a bass which I literally never use so could easily be tempted to part with it (the bridge and nut and anchor piece that is, might as well keep the bass).
24. Also Sennheiser HD419s, £23 from Maplin. I find them a bit more comfortable than the HD201s.
