Could you embed a pick into something bigger to give you more to grip?

Sei Original 5 headless fretless so I only hit the singer if I want to (it's Mrs Zero so in the interest of marital bliss, I don't). Plus one - Esh Poseidon V, Sei 6, Antoniotsai 5 or Hohner B2AV.

Is the market for older instruments in decline?
tauzero replied to karlfer's topic in General Discussion
Also sellers don't do themselves or others any favours. If gear doesn't sell in the first week there is an instant price drop. I wouldn't buy anything for the first few months because the price is going to keep gliding down.
Some time ago, I suggested that the best policy was to start increasing the price. -
Quit my band ,best decision I've made in years
Not heard of this before, and have I've never heard of the band or song it's alleged to have been copied from. I have to say that judging by this, in my opinion there's enough dissimilarity. http://www.theguardi...olen-judge-says
The lawyer for the grasping side is called Francis Malofiy. Any relation to Draco Malofiy - sorry, Malefoy? The chords are similar but the distinctive melodic lines differ quite a bit.

Which Strings? Constructive String advice please
tauzero replied to Grangur's topic in Repairs and Technical
I've settled on two types for the time being, Elites stainless and Status tapewound - mostly the Status though. -
Never really thought about how I hold it. I do it quite differently to Dood - grip it between thumb and the top joint of my middle finger, with my forefinger resting on the corner of the pick. It's worth experimenting to see what works best for you. I don't use plectrum much on bass, mainly on guitar, and holding it this way means that I can pivot it around slightly so I'm brushing the strings with the edge rather than strumming them with the point.

I use an Ultimate GS-1000. Folds down quite small, gets sufficiently tall to just about cope with a Warwick Buzzard. No good at all for my headless Sei though.
Interesting thread though, don't you think, where a few qualified speaker guys take Alex to task for making exaggerated claims about his products? Claims which, interestingly, you consistently repeat, Mr Discreet, at the drop of a hat.
But they say his cabs sound very good, it's a quibble about tech specs for the driver. I think I've only knowingly heard one BF cab and I thought it sounded horrible, but that was because the bassist had it EQed to sound completely unlike my taste. I will one day try to A-B compare one with a cab I know. A friend of mine owns a BF cab, incidentally, a gen 2 2x12 IIRC. He's very happy with it.
In 37 years of playing, I have never had to play Sweet Home Alabama until just last week. We're going to play it at a gig in the summer as the host specifically requested. I'll be playing it on an ACG 5 string fretless. Not sure what my point is, just putting the info out there....
I played it on an Esh Poseidon V on Saturday night, and I've also played it on a Sei Flamboyant 6 and a Sei Original 5 fretless in the last couple of months. Presumably that means it's jazz fusion or experimental post-rock.

Vintage MIJ (formerly J@pCr@p) Spotting
tauzero replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
For the record, I pride myself in being an equal-opportunities bigot, and would prefer to offend everybody in equal measure regardless of race or religion. To that end I welcome use of terms such as YankW@nk, BritSh!t and KoreaDiarrhoea. So if any BC members with a more varied and colourful vocabulary than my own could come up with offensive and disparaging descriptors for instruments made in Italy, Taiwan, China, Indonesia, Brazil, Germany or indeed any other country where the bass guitar is manufactured, I would welcome their contributions.
Is it OK to call nice Vigiers Frogsporn? Presumably Warwicks, Marleaux, etc could be Bochebosh. -
Tennessee 15 string - how much??????

I can't believe he's turned down my offer again. -
Is it me or does that look like the fingerboard has been replaced? Warwicks usually have a scalloped type edge where it meets the body?
A good point, and those frets don't look like bell brass. And he doesn't mention the battery compartment - that needs a bit of work.
Clipping the amp much more regularly is the result. Thus, damaged equipment. Anyone who disagrees hasn't used a Spector before.
I disagree, but I haven't used a Spector. I do have one active bass which is quite a bit louder than the others but all but that one produce a similar output to the passive basses I've owned. I always use the passive input or switch off the pad, never use the active input or pad.
It should be noted that bars in Europe are probably closer to the States rather than the UK - bar bands generally play three or four hour shows over three sets.
That's close to my experience in Munich, when we played four nominally half-hour sets with nominally half-hour breaks (more like 4x40 and 20 minutes rest as it turned out).
Just what I've found with basses I've played. I've seldom found a thin necked bass with a good deep growl. Most produce a thin metallic tone, that most folk seem to call "punchy".
I've had two Hohner B2 5-strings, identical other than the pickups and one being active. Quite a chunky neck on them both of course, the passive one sounded quite thin in comparison to the active one. So necks may be a variable but I haven't found it myself. My extremely slim-necked Warwick has a good deep growl that's identical to the baseball-bat-necked Warwicks, so I would say that's two empirical results which show you haven't looked at the right slim-necked basses.
But then again there is Liza Minelli and Kirsty McColl. Also, I would venture Ben Castle (son of Roy) is a apparently a pretty good jazz musician.
And Zac Starkey too.
Would you like to stroke my orange eared elephant?
That's not an orange eared elephant, it's a hippopotamus with a hat on.

Not so bothered about width but I far prefer shallow necks.
-
It sounds like it's slightly overloaded. What's the bass? Does it have a particularly hot output?
-
I started on guitar and still play it a bit, both plectrum and finger picking. On bass I use one or two fingers, occasionally a pick, and occasionally thumb and two fingers - for some reason I don't do thumb and three fingers like I do on guitar. There's no one right way, just be prepared to experiment with technique for each song.
