1. Spectors. Lovely basses (even though they're not headless) but I just don't get on with the necks.
 2. Fenders (and copies). Singlecuts. Precisions (and copies). Paint finish. Jazzes (and copies). Not keen on headed basses but I do have some.
 3. Active, twin pickup, headless, natural finish, through neck, straplocks. If fretless, unlined. Luminlay side markers or preferably LEDs. Shallow neck profile.
 4.
The Monkees?
OOOK!!!!!
 5. Airship or Led Zeppelin (or both) Men at work
 6.
I get this if it was a few days apart but two months?
Perhaps Limehouse Lizzy were throwing a strop over the Derby gigs.
 7. I'd start with my little finger on the 10th fret of the B string and go from there.
 8.
Radio Four is enough for me and it should be enough for anyone.
Radio 2 is acceptable while Thought for the Day or interviews with any front bench politician of any stripe are on.
 9. Friends of mine run this company http://securityforbikes.com and the advice on there is worth looking at as it covers general shed and building security as well as bike (motor and push) security.
 10.
I don't really do tab, but it looks like the D and A are being played at the same time? That would explain why they play the open A string.
It's because it's shown in a proportional font which is useless for tab as characters have different widths, and the widths depend on the font. Put it into Courier or a similar non-proportional font and you'll see the A and D are alternating.
 11. I've had a 4x10 fail on me (fortunately when we were going through a venue's PA) so I'm a bit cautious now - I use 2 1x12s and I think one should cope with the sound levels we play at. Yes, we do play with a PA but it's a pair of SRM450s and I'd rather not put the bass through them. More specifically, they're my SRM450s and I pay if they need fixing. Again, they should cope with the levels we play at but I'd rather not.
 12.
However, I kinda think that this is missing the point. If any band has to resort to putting out adverts for musicians that they don’t know, then it is a pretty good indication that they are not plugged into the local circuit and do not have the connections with the local good players (or are not good enough to attract the guys who normally get the better gigs). Most good bands recruit from recommendations from a network of established players who all either know each other or know of each other.
Looks like I've never joined or been in a good band then.
 13.
Count me in, I have never been to one of these before I have a couple of Nordy's 2 Vanderkley 112mnt's and a Puma 900 that I can bring if there is room.
If I remember, I'll bring a Berg AE112 as I'd like to compare the 112MNT and the AE112 side by side (I use a Puma 900 too). Anyone got a Barefaced Super Compact or Super Midget and a Berg CN112 for further experimentation?
 14. Very tempted. I think I'd have to be pencilled in (and then painted in properly by a student of Botticelli).
 15. Never owned one but played quite a few in Musical Exchanges in Brum. The fives had great necks on them, and the 8-string was pretty good too.
 16.
I think band 2 sounds like the US version of a ceilidh band. More specifically, joining an already established one. If you like playing a specific genre of covers regularly and you enjoy it, then bonus. It's not my cuppa. I like writing songs.
Doesn't sound much like the US version of a ceilidh band to me. That would be something like a hoe-down band or whatever the terminology is. Folksy fiddly stuff for barn dancing. Of course, there's no right answer to this whole conundrum. Do what you wanna do. There's a few as have said they don't like gigging, so band 1 would be their obvious choice. I do like gigging, but there's some appeal to me for each of bands 2, 3, and 4, so I wouldn't exclude any of them without meeting them. Let's face it, I've played "Red Red Whine" for money, so I'm obviously a musical prostitute.
 17.
I had an alligator combo years ago. Didn't know they made basses. I thought it was amplification only . Interesting
I think if you read FlatEric's blog, you'll find that they didn't - Reeve did, on a commission for them. Fascinating story so far and I'm looking forward to the next part.
 18.
That bass solo was what got me into bass playing.
You knew you could do better? It improves slowly as it goes along, but the first three or four minutes as he seems to be tuning up are dead ropey.
 19. What steps do you take? See if this works - I've got a photobucket piccture, I click on the direct link http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc258/dipterror/compact_gig_rig.jpg then click on the Image icon and when the popup comes up asking for a URL, just paste the link in: So, has this shown up?
 20.
Really put me off asymmetric necks and will avoid them in future.
I think some techniques suit asymmetric necks and some don't, and yours is obviously in the "don't" camp. I'm very happy with my asymmetric-necked Sei, but I tried one of Alan's ACG guitars with an asymmetric neck and didn't get on with it at all, probably because I'm mainly an acoustic guitar player and make occasional use of my thumb over the top which just doesn't work with an asymmetric neck.
 21. Titles by Barclay James Harvest - a song made up of B**tles song titles and some musical references. Kid Rock - All Summer Long, a complete lift of Sweet Home Alabama. In the outro of Dire Straits' Money for Nothing, Sting does some backing vocals, including "I want my, I want my, I want my MTV" to the melody of "Don't stand so close to me".
 22. Focus III - works, apart from the bass solo which is so low you can't hear it, and isn't much cop if you turn it up. I'm another one who's happy with Lamb Lies Down. I suppose I can't count doublebacks like Tyrannosaurus Rex's Beard of Stars/Unicorn and My people were fair/Prophets, seers, and sages...
 23. What I find really annoying is when whatever cloth-eared gibbon is doing the sound editing cuts out a bar, or a beat, or even half a beat. Presumably they know bugger-all about music.
 24.
Why? It's very good but so was the 94 video (with that note!), as was the stunning version Dave Gilmour played at the Albert Hall last year.
Because it was the original line-up reunited. I'm not saying that the other versions aren't good, it's that the musicians who originally created the parts were doing it once more.
 25.
I'm now worried that I will now have to buy a 5-string before I'm allowed to play the live version of Comfortably Numb to an audience.
But surely this must be the definitive live version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4i8tzFbTAk
