1.
I only have video archives, anecdotes, books and the music to base it on, but I really can't think of a culture shock comparable to the Beatles getting off that plane in 1963. I don't think anything comes close.
That's the nub of it. It was a culture shock, not a musical one. There seems to be an awful lot of conflating going on.
  2.
Many seem to be asking indignant and slightly whiny questions on the lines of: 'Are you saying me and people like me can't I have my opinion?' To these members I would say this: 'You all know full well you can have an opinion - but for some reason you won't let Blue hold an opinion which carries somewhat more weight than most. Some of you are mischievously misrepresenting his position in an attempt to foment ill-feeling for purposes of petty self-aggrandisement. 'You're being rather silly and spiteful. Best you go and sit on the naughty step to contemplate your foolishness'.
Actually, what he's said is that young people shouldn't express their opinions: "Just like when I say young folk should keep their negative uninformed opinion to themselves, because I still opinion if you weren't there you don't understand stand what happened or what the Beatles did. It's not a matter of right or wrong." Whether or not you were there, you can still have an opinion.
  3.
How do you know they are non-musicians?
I was wondering that too. My dad was a dentist, who also played piano to a pretty reasonable standard - I think he got his interest in the piano from his father, who started out as an organ builder. So you can't really predict what your audience might contain.
  4. Classical electro-acoustic turned up yesterday. Haven't gone over it with a microscope yet but it looks like the binding on the body edge is slightly marked. It's a passive preunamp which was a little confusing as I looked in vain for the battery box. The curse of nylon strings (which I've never encountered before, having never changed the strings on my brother's classical) as they're still stabilising. Still, I own Ashbories so I know all about that.
  5. Just a minor inaccuracy - Electric Landlady was Kirsty McColl, Electric Ladyland was Hendrix. But definitely a top article.
  6. I have several questions for Angie:

When will those clouds all disappear?
Where will it lead us from here?
Ain't it time we said good-bye?
Remember all those nights we cried?
Ain't it good to be alive?
If you are neither Angie nor Angie, please refrain from answering.
  7. I'm a little surprised that the trussrod adjustment is at the body end.
  8.
Also why I don't like those modern tuner pegs that are concave in the middle, so you can't wind the string down to the bottom of the tuner. Lame!
Perhaps they were designed with proper headstocks in mind (the best headstock is an absent one, of course, but that's another subject). It does seem strange to me that Fender never changed from the two-string string tree to a bar type design that would give all the strings a similar break angle over the nut.
  9.
GK MB150E. The little, supposedly 150w combo (do they still make them?). I only bought it because it was cute and supposedly portable. In reality, while it was small, it was also extremely heavy and a nightmare to carry on the tube.Plus the cab rattled something awful. Replaced with my Eden rig which was a revelation. The older Eden heads remain my favourites.
I used a GK 200MB (predecessor to the MB150) for years. Weighs about 11kg, so lighter than most 1x12 cabs. Took it on the back of my motorbike on a couple of occasions. Did you have it in a lead-lined flightcase?
  10. My classical electro-acoustic is also out for delivery. It'll probably finish up with a neighbour unless it arrives sometime after Minus Zero gets up (generally about 4 in the afternoon, he is idleness embodied).
  11. What can it mean to a daydream believer and a homecoming queen?
  12. Lead vocals on one song, backing vocals on a few. I was bassist/vocalist with one band but TBH I wasn't very good at the singing side of it (I didn't like to admit it though, not even to myself).
  13.
The very simple but very famous bass line in 'Radar Love' is also up there, but the unison guitar/bass middle 8 is not compulsary.
It's also not unison. As I had to point out to my previous guitarist... I could, of course have missed your point
  14.
Unfortunately we're often up against IT professionals who get 3x that for a day's work in their day job and whose idea of fun is to play a NYE gig.
As an IT professional, I can only say: if only...
  15. What's love got to do with it? Did you ever wake up with the bullfrogs on your mind? If I leave here tomorrow, would you still remember me?
  16. 806 after 5 pints. That's close enough for rock'n'roll, especially as I was putting a bit of feel into it. Now to get Mrs Zero to do it, to see whether I should confiscate her tambourine...
  17.
A set of D'Addario black nylons will transform it!
Fifty quid for a 5-string set - I think I'll give the Status nylons a go.

    Amazon

I use stringbusters.com, good service and I think they're generally cheaper than Strings Direct.
  19. Peavey Grind BXP. Just thought I'd mention it as no-one else has...
  20. I bought the PA (though as Mrs Zero is the singer and we share funds, I suppose you could say she's contributed to it). However, we've finished up using the guitarist's mixer and outboard EQ with my SRM450s (and a pair of Behringer active speakers for monitors). The guitarist also supplies half of the lighting. We all store and transport our own gear and give each other a hand at the venue with unloading and reloading. I never realised just how lucky I was.
  21. I've done Munich and back with Easyjet three times with basses in Hiscox cases. No problems, and they seemed to take good care of them.
  22.
Good to see you're getting one (almost certainly).
It's in Koln now, so I shan't start tapping my fingers just yet.
  23.
Saw that. Bought that. Let's see if there were any left.
There were!
