  1. It would work with a mono earpiece using a mono jack. To a degree, anyway. And the signal level is about the same from a passive bass as an active.
  2. Except that the active preamp wouldn't switch on, as the jack socket relies on ring and sleeve being shorted. Well, maybe it would, rather badly, depending on the impedance of your headphones, of which the right channel wouldn't do anything and the left channel would be very quiet.
  3. Perhaps it says more about how few people read BGM than how many admire Alan's work. Does that get me a free Krell?
  4. Oh no! A music stand! I thought he was a world-class bassist...
  5. I've got a pair of RCF ART 710As for PA duties. Specs say 50-20kHz frequency response, max SPL 129dB, 700W RMS power split 500/200 between woofer and tweeter. It would be nice to leave my pair of Berg AE112s at home and run through the PA, perhaps using Tecamp Puma/BF One10 for bass monitoring. This is up against a not overly loud unmiced drummer (maybe I could put a bit of kick in the mix), and keys would also go through the PA. Am I being over-optimistic in thinking of doing this?
  6. If it's not in tune, that's a deal breaker for me. I'm not that technically minded.
  7. I'll be bringing an incredible talent at procrastination sometime soon.
  8. That won't work, they've got standard A pitched at 435Hz not 440.
  9. Notlob
  10. Early 900s (like mine) don't have one either - I put one in, with guidance from Thomas Eich, as I thought I might have an overheating issue (I didn't).
  11. Squire. So you can have a guitar spelt the same way as the illiterati/those who are unable to read a headstock spell it.
  12. Meatloaf. Seeing as the ones that first sprang to mind (T Rex, Alice Cooper, Pink Floyd) have been nabbed, and I'm not sure about playing with David Bowie as he'd sack me, although I could also be tempted by Focus. Still, Meatloaf - I like Jim Steinman's writing, there's a lot of energy in the songs and enough complexity to make them interesting but simple enough that I should be abler to remember them.
  13. I'm sure I recall mention of someone having a neck built by Jon Shuker. Might be worth a search to see if you can find the post in question.
  14. So it's not a standard issue bass. Thank you for making my point.
  15. Indeed, there's one of these on every music shop wall: The Jack Bruce Cream reunion signature bass. Although before that, he had a signature fretless Thumb bass from Warwick that was changed from the original - see his website. So sorry, sometimes what you say is true but by no means always.
  16. I know the last time I said something about not liking Prince's work, I got slagged off. I still don't like the vast majority of what I've heard of his. Like a latter-day Paul McCartney. Still, while it's OK to say what you like about Coldplay or U2, Prince is sacrosanct so I suppose I'll get slagged off again. I won't deny he's composed a lot of stuff and could play lots of instruments, but I'm not convinced of the merit of what he's composed.
  17. Classical - Bach. Modern - Jan Akkerman.
  18. And on topic, another Maggie Bell one: And Fireball XL5: And of course there's this:
  19. George Markstein, but he's dead. James Follett professes to know all about it but he's full of bollocks.
  20. T Rex, and Tyrannosaurus Rex (that's the order I encountered them in). A little later on, Alice Cooper.
  21. The prog covers band I'm in will have to start thinking about this soon, as we near having enough material to play a gig. On the basis that the dancey stuff goes in the second set, we'll just be playing a very long first set. Put a bum-squeezer in towards the end of the night, then finish it off with a bang. Keep an extra bang or two in reserve as encores.
  22. Surely every bassist who has a signature model warrants it, because the people who control more money than I'll see in a lifetime think that it's worth putting some of it in the direction of said bassist.
  23. Don't forget the topics that aren't about the Beatles that somehow finish up being about the Beatles. I suppose we'll never know whether it's envy, annoyance, or some other emotion that is the source of denial.
  24. Hasn't Mark King had signature basses with Alembic, Jaydee, and Status? Oh, and Fender too. Still, so far he's just had the one signature amp.
