Looks like it has been dissolved by acid!
tauzero replied to JJW's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
He's cut a big U shape out of the body arcing round the bridge, then used some substance (resin or plastic, I would think) to build up the horrible-looking grungy bits. -
How far to go in refurbishing/servicing vintage equipment?
tauzero replied to Twincam's topic in General Discussion
If you just change everything in sight then you end up with something different to what you started out with and will quite likely devalue the item .
So you should keep all the sh*te components that you've swapped out and supply them with the amp if you ever sell it. Many many years ago, I recall the case of a Lotus racing car (not F1) which was used in some major road race and crashed. The crash bent a chassis rail, which was chopped out and replaced by a length of scaffold pole or similar, then the car raced with that repair in place. Years later, the car was sold - IIRC the chassis rail had been replaced properly, but the length of scaffold pole was included in the sale as it was part of the car when it had won a race or two. Can't remember the details, but I'm sure someone on BC will know them... -
Jam nights to find a band in London/Herts/Birmingham
tauzero replied to The-Ox's topic in General Discussion
oh wow! How was that experience? They run it on Mondays now I think
Well, it was a learning experience. There were rather a lot of songs that I had never played, and I learnt the chords by watching the guitarist's fingers (even more fun when they've got a capo on). I'd like to do something like that again, to keep my brain working. There was also a huge challenge one night, when a chap turned up with a djembe and asked if I'd do some drum and bass with him. I like to think that the performance we turned in was rather good. He was excellent and I rather hope I didn't let him down. -

Looking at the detail on that, it's not been done by someone who's really good at pinstriping. Not utterly cack-handed but there's quite a variation in line width and a lack of symmetry because lines aren't drawn to the same length. Wouldn't have got a job at the old Triumph factory in Meriden.

Doesn't seem to include the two whammy bars. I'm out.
There used to be a blues club/jam night at the Roadhouse in Birmingham, once a month on a Thursday I think. It might still be around?
Once upon a time there was an open mic night there on Thursday nights - I finished up as the house band bassist. The guy who originally ran it stopped, but I think it's still going in some form. -
Listened to a track you've been covering for years and realised you've been playing it wrong?
Yes. My excuse is that every tab and every YouTube example of said song, except the original, is written/played wrong. Every single one. Oh yes, and it was quite easy to hear on the isolated bass track on Youtube, but not so easy on the original, although knowing the chords should have pointed the way to the notes.

Not impressed with the dB rating of my new bins
tauzero replied to Happy Jack's topic in General Discussion
No, seriously, anyone have any idea why the bins have '89dB' on the back? The noise of the machine collecting them?
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=wheelie+bins+89db -

They do both kinds of music - rock AND roll. -
It looks to me like the guarantee is for the date, not the time, which seems pretty meaningless. It's something that Interparcel could do with clarifying.

I had one. They are distinguishable from the 500 as the Superfly has no fan but the Superduperfly does. It also stays far cooler than the 500 for the same volume. I took mine (both the 500 and the 1000) out of the aluminium casings, made them lighter and easier to put in a small case. Great preamp and editor software.

Have we all become wimps or is it a sign of an ageing population
tauzero replied to Kex's topic in Amps and Cabs
So old bad, new good? Guess thats why a Stradivarius is next to worthless, why a 1952 Precision is unsalable, why vintage Aston Martins sit unwanted in damp garagea and no one drinks anything other then Beaujolais Nouveau. As for those old valves, don't even start......
You're not exactly comparing like with like. I'd compare a Trace Elliot combo to a Ford Cortina, not an Aston Martin. -

Done. As I never play to clicks at any speed, that was one whole page of No... -
I really do not understand why people don't just use washers as straplocks.
Because I don't want to. It really is as simple as that.
I had a set of Schallers on my first "proper" bass. i was forever tightening the pesky thing up, until one day, at rehearsal, the bass crashed to the floor with the strap lock in pieces. I may just have had a rogue one, but it put me off those mechanical locks for life.
I've used Schallers for almost 30 years with no problems on about ten basses. I suspect that you got a rogue one.

I have suggested to Mrs Zero that she could be an Alison Moyet tribute called Not 'Alf or we could do a Blondie tribute called Silvery.

Schaller for me since getting the Warwick back in 1987. You can also get a Schaller clone - I think Dangleberry Music do them - brand is Boston, they come with two nuts per straplock so the second nut locks the first. You can also get cheap Chinese clones, the only disadvantage being that they have no ramp on the sprung pin so you have to pull the button out to put them on.
I had an email from a band colleague this week regarding our latest member (I won't mention the instrument in case they work out who I am), but the reason for wanting them to be relieved of duty was that we need to find someone who is good, rather than someone "...who thinks there aren’t enough notes in any scale and that they all need to be played as fast as possible in no special order..." Classic!
You've got John McLaughlin in the band?

For about three weeks on the trot, I was told there was no rehearsal for one reason or another. Then the rhythm guitarist texted me to say that the lead guitarist and drummer, two brothers, had been asked by an old friend of theirs if he could come in as bassist (said old friend was aware that they already had me), so they were getting rid of me. Still, it meant I joined the band I'm still with on a full-time rather than dep basis. I'm not actually that petty a person as to hold a proper grudge, so when I heard that the replacement bassist had cancer, the news did sadden me somewhat. I hardly think it was karma, definitely a punishment far too harsh for the crime.

We play 7 of them, though on any one gig probably four. I like doing the more unusual stuff and I'm still sulking because the rest have decided to ditch "Kayleigh".
I'm pleased that Fodera are addressing the 'lack' in tonal response that frequently characterises other headless instruments. It was a relief to hear too that there's a complementary pack of strings. I'm conflicted now - do I sell my Streamline and go for the MG, or just live with its tonal inferiorities? I'd still have my old Status Series II but it's a great big bulky thing and a lot of people have remarked on its tonal limitations too
Would an identical Series II but with a head sound different to the headless version then?
