1. Or use an Ashbory, upright sound and very tendonitis-friendly.
2. I've happily used Elites double ball end from Stringbusters on assorted 5-string headlesses, including a Status.
3.
I had one of the Maison BC-alikes, mine was a 5 string with JJ pickups and I gigged it for years. I managed to remove the logo from the body with a bit of T-Cut and elbow grease
I had the fretless 5-string version which was my first 5-string.
4. I think I'm still OK for it, Mrs Zero has decided to go to work rather than come along. I did tell her there was cake but that wasn't enough to sway it.
5. Status tapewounds - round wound sound and smooth feel.
6. Although it's not likely, it can happen that a driver blows and goes open circuit. If this happens, the results will be different according to how the cab is wired. If two drivers are in series, connected in parallel to two other drivers in series, you finish up with a 16 ohm 2 speaker cab. If two drivers are in parallel, connected in series to another two drivers in parallel, you finish up with a 12 ohm 3 speaker cab. At first glance, the second option may seem better. However, the single speaker will have to handle four times the power that each of the drivers in the pair do, which may well result on it crying enough too, so you finish up with an infinite ohms cab.
7. I use white spirit - just moisten a paper towel with some, rub the affected area until the gunk is off, then use another paper towel to dry up. A bit like watching porn, but with less issues if someone walks in. Apparently.
8. I thought Bo Diddley was the first rectangular guitarist, so as to speak.
9. We use a pair of Behringer B210Ds, just for vocal monitoring and sometimes a bit of guitar. Wouldn't want to put drums and bass through them.
10. Have you got good output from the bass, and is the volume all the way up?
11. Property is heft.
12. I considered the Mono GS-1 but I have the strap at about 47" and want to have the potential to adjust it in either direction, which would have meant two GS-1s. I bought the Neotech Mega instead. Seems well made and comfortable. Doesn't slip either.
13. I thought it would stop it rolling forward as much as it does with the standard position.
14. My Warwick JD Thumb which I bought new in 1987. Doesn't get used these days as I play 5-strings but it's always there...
15.
The celebrity owned thing is interesting. I spoke with one guitar dealer who soar even if a guitar has been celebrity owned, he won't talk about it or list it, preferring to sell the guitar on its own merits. When I asked why he told me a funny, if slightly sad, story about a friend who had invested a load of their savings in Rolf Harris artwork.
The value of my Gary Glitter album plummeted a few years ago.
16.
Didn't he have pretty serious hip problems? Sure I read that somewhere.
Apparently yes, and also apparently wouldn't have hip replacements as that would have entailed a blood transfusion and as a Jehovah's Witness, he wouldn't have that.
17.
It seems Mr Torkington now does an Elton John tribute act.
Will Elton John take out an injunction, or will he think it's super?
18. Pro Audio Service in Coalville. He's done a couple of repairs on SRM450s for me. http://www.proaudioservice.co.uk
19. Crafter are also good, I bought one for £175 which was up there with several more expensive instruments. Or get a Variax 300 solid-body and use the acoustic patches, that's what I use for gigging purposes.
20.
Flanging is *possibly* even older than overdrive (there's certainly not much in it). It was discovered in the 1940s, legend has it by a certain Mr Les Paul. The original effect was made by manipulation of tape machines (hence the name). Bucket brigade implementation came *much* later.
That was an effect on recorded sound - don't think a tape system was ever used to do flanging as a live effect, which is what I assume this is about.
21. It's actually a B2V which has been converted to active. The strap button move is a good idea, keep meaning to move mine in the same way.
22.
I don't remember it from last year, but I am just about to start on an own-design cello, loosely based on this yew/mahogany violin I did a couple of years ago - looks nice, plays like s**t - so would be very interested in terms of the weight, balance, etc... I know an upright bass is somewhat different to a cello, but the CofG issues, etc, are likely to be similar.
I could bring an NS WAV-4 along too if that would be of interest, and former cellist Mrs Zero.
23.
You've missed my first sentence from your quote. Which effectively makes the rest of my post seem ridiculous as you've taken it completely out of context. Strange thing to do really.
Was it too ironic to be ironic about being ironic about irony?
24.
If you're unhappy with Flea's performance then you should be addressing your criticism to him, not a bunch of English bass players. If you're unhappy with the way a bunch of English bass players are critiscising Flea then you should be addressing those bass players.
Gosh, that's a good idea. So everyone who criticises basses with nice figured tops, go and whinge about them to the luthiers, not on here. And the moaners about headless basses, same to you. And no matter how sh*t the performance, don't criticise it on here, go and tell the artist. And if you feel that someone has said something that you're unhappy with, tell them direct, don't moan about it on the forum. That should get the postings on here down to a manageable two or three a week then.
25. I prefer the Schaller as the locking mechanism is not itself under load, it's just holding the strap pin in the cradle of the strap lock. I've used them since my first Warwick in 1987.
