I sold my Bass Collection - because it was so light rather than for any other reason, I was used to a Warwick Thumb so the BC felt very insubstantial. If I was suffering from back or shoulder problems that would be helped by a lighter bass, I'd go for one again.
Most mistakes from not knowing what the funky clef is that's neither bas nor treble. Any clues?
I didn't know either: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clef

9, although having to work out what every note was from middle C means I'm rather slow on note recognition and I've never encountered the alto clef before (otherwise I'd have crept into double figures).

No, mine's a Dean Edge Hammer 10 which is at the lower end of the price scale and it's got individual saddles for every string. Having not done a lot of research on multicourse basses, I don't know which is more common, shared pairs or individual.
Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now.
Smiths songs have an advantage in that they're inappropriate for any occasion. "One way or another" by Blondie (apparently some modern band called One Way Street or summat like that have recently covered it) is another stalking song. "Roxanne" would probably be best avoided at a wedding, especially if the bride's name is Roxanne.
I've always been of the thought that no matter how good you are at something, there is always someone better than you at some facet of what you do. Otherwise, it would be taken for granted who was "the best" bass player ever? As for my point about the Who, I actually happen to like Pino in his own right. In the Who, I don't think it's unfair to say that he's the wrong man for the job despite how amazingly gifted he is as his style is all wrong for that band. On the other hand, I'm not entirely sure that there is even a right person now. So you see my point (hopefully) that nobody does everything well. Maybe I just think the Who are rubbish now and it's more noticable now post 2002.
I went to see them a few years ago at the NIA and they certainly didn't seem to me to have died as a live band. While I hadn't seen them live with the original line-up, I have seen many recordings of them and although they have changed, I don't think that they've lost much from those early days, and I don't think that Pino's playing in any way detracts from them.

Batteriser - squeeze 8x more life from your batteries!
tauzero replied to dannybuoy's topic in General Discussion
That critique seems rather at odds with the original article, as they powered a Bluetooth keyboard with it (which presumably is a more complex circuit of the sort that the poster says wouldn't play well with the Batteriser). Seems to me that it would be appropriate in a medium current application - a battery in a TV remote would probably last for pretty much its shelf life, ditto an electro-mechanical clock, and for high current drains, rechargeables would be a better solution. Which means that I don't think I have anything in the house that would benefit - a few remotes, three or four electromechanical clocks, and at the other end of the scale, a Variax, Line 6 wirelesses, Zoom Q2HD, MS-60B, B3, digital camera (which I always use Eneloops in). Actually, thinking about it, it might come in useful for this wireless keyboard and mouse I'm using right now. -
Any suggestions of good simple basslines to learn?
tauzero replied to Naetharu's topic in General Discussion
Dakota by the Stereophonics. If you can stay awake for the entire song then the world is your lobster. See also: Dance the night away, Moves like Jagger. Baba O'Reilly by The Who is a simple one. IIRC, Pride by U2, although simple, has the bass changing where the guitar doesn't and that can be a little misleading. One, also U2, allows the bass a bit more freedom of expression. -
I've got a 10-string Dean (seemed to be the obvious choice as I play 5-strings otherwise).
Cool bass. Wonder what it sounds like?
Very quiet if the pickups aren't working.

What about having three layers, successively darker, with one being a Jazz shape, one a Precision shape, and one a Rick shape (for the sake of argument, proper basses are also available)?

Earl Shilton is only about ten miles from Sheepy Magna and Sheepy Parva.

Must admit to not having had a close look at the tuner/bridge assembly. It's a different design to Steinberger or ABM, I think - it's like a rather more compact and sophisticated version of the Warwick Nobby Meidel tuning system, or the Kramer Duke system, so it's actually four worm-drive tuners on their sides laid front-to-back and turning a peg with a hole in that takes a normal string end (the strings in the Ebay auction are single ball end), while I think the Steinberger/ABM system is a screw going through a block with a hole in that takes a ball end.

You could buy a headless bass kit from Ireland off That Ebay - £120, includes hardware. Or if you wanted to go to Gravesend to pick it up, someone's flogging one already made up for £50 start.
I have a block of old perspex, it would cut in three and bolt together like that. anyone have a spare headless style neck and bridge? I could have sworn I saw one for sale...
Kiwi was selling a Moses graphite headless 4 neck or two.

Amp one output, into x2 cabs both with one input ?
tauzero replied to flippyfloop's topic in Amps and Cabs
The GK Neo 112 IIs have a speakon and a jack. I used them with a Puma 900 by running speakon-speakon into the first cab, then jack-speakon from the first to the second cab. -
Volume when using a PA/Mixer and a zoom b2 (specific question)
tauzero replied to Geek99's topic in Bass Guitars
Run the XLR on the B2.1 to his mixer. It'll be at roughly mic level. -
We use Alto TS2As - replaced the Wharfedale wedges I was using because they're less than half the weight, make a pretty good noise, and Mrs Zero and I can always use them on their own for a PA if we do acoustic gigs.

One tiny patch of carpet on the bare wooden stage...
tauzero replied to Dom in Dorset's topic in General Discussion
1st gig after our drummer had just got hisself a new motor, he forgot his bit of carpet and ended up using all his pristine BMW carpet mats to try and stop his kit splaying all over the stage...oh how we laughed.... I actually spent a lot of the gig with my foot wedged against the bass drum so he had summat to push against..did I get thanks? Nah all I got was 'if you stand here all night my fans can't see me! Bless 'im
On one of our Munich trips, playing with a gradually disintegrating drumkit supplied by the venue, the drummer had to tie the kit together to stop it migrating. And some other drummer had nicked the drum stool, so he finished up using a snare drum soft case with a fleece in it to add a bit of height to a small stool. -
