Slimming down a Shergold replacement neck
tauzero replied to Andyjr1515's topic in Repairs and Technical
Yes - as you say, the original has a 'capstan' accessible in a slot under the heel. And as PlungerModerno rightly says, the replacement has a conventional allen-key access at the headstock....I need to find out what Paul's preference is with that in terms of leaving it as is or covering it with a bent cover.
I just realised that you did cover that in your last bullet point in your original post about the necks. I was very glad that I only had to adjust the truss rod very rarely (although it is a better system than the daft Fender one, but not by much). -
Rechargeables are all very well but (assuming you take a spare battery) you have to keep the spare topped up or get a low self-discharge PP3 (not a common-or-garden NiMH).

Slimming down a Shergold replacement neck
tauzero replied to Andyjr1515's topic in Repairs and Technical
How do you adjust the truss rod on the replica? On the original (or the Hayman 40/40, anyway) you went through a slot on the rear of the body with a special tool which was a cranked piece of metal and turned the wheel with that. The wheel isn't visible on the replica. -
1. I want to move more air/achieve greater volume through a greater surface area of speaker (1x15 = 176 sq in -vs- 4x10 = 314 sq in -vs- 4x12 sq in) all things being equal in the speaker sensitivity stakes of course.
It's not just the area of the cone that counts, it's how far the cone moves.

I have about half a dozen of the Stagg stands: http://www.promenademusic.co.uk/Stagg-SG-50-Guitar-Stand (other retailers are available). The cradle pivots so it copes with asymmetric bottoms. It's also better than the Hercules grab stands for headless basses. And it's a reet bugger trying to find a stand for a Buzzard. I need the grab stand stem extended by 20cm or so.

PA gear goes in the garage (which is now full). Two 1x12 cabs are stacked just inside the non-opening side of the patio door and have a piece of carpet draped over them so the cat can use them as a vantage point. Amp, wireless, effects, small mixer all go under the coffee table.
-
I'm another who leaves a bit in reserve. The noise level on my amp and effects is sufficiently low that I don't feel the need to maximise the bass signal to reduce the noise level.

Procells for me.
Sorry Tauzero, you misunderstood my post, I know how the band came about the name, I'm querying the origins of the phrase itself.
How about http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/lead-balloon.html then?
-
Strange, a quick google and there is no information on the origin of th phrase. Bpnzodog, I don't buy your version, sorry. 4-string-thing, yes, but IF it did, it would come down brilliantly!
It's well-known. How about http://forums.ledzeppelin.com/index.php?/topic/1152-is-it-true-that-keith-moon-named-led-zeppelin/ ?
Ah, thanks. :-) As you can tell, I'm not a huge Queen fan. But I love that single (both sides!) :-)
At a bit of a tangent - have a listen to Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack, there's some other tracks that I think you'd like (Nevermore and White Queen spring to mind).

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Also looking forward to the next one, especially if there's cake. Conclusions: AT's deko PJ has made me feel I might actually like a PJ. RR's W&T has made me realise that the headstocks of NT and notlob W&Ts are different, and it's just the NTs that are disasters. Cake is nice. More cake. And biscuits. Many thanks, especially to those providing cakes. And biscuits.

There's a company which makes stick-on LED strips which fix to the top edge of the fretboard. Aha, this is the one: https://fretfx.com/ As Si600 says, there are stick-on fret markers which can be charged up with a UV torch. I had some and they worked but gradually fell off. Can't remember where I got them. You can also get the fret markers replaced by Luminlay dots. These are also glow-in-the-dark, charged up with a UV torch (for UV torches, look on That Ebay for "3 in 1 torch"). If you're feeling flush, there's Sims LEDs - http://www.simscustom.com/html/00leds.htm
-
I glance at the fretboard for position changes. I found LEDs were very useful for that. I mainly play fretless. It's a lined fretless but I had the fret markers moved to being on the fret positions, as I don't use the lines and it's a lot easier to work out where I'm going to with the markers there than with them in the conventional position.
Is there any advantage to go series rather than parallel or vice versa?
Given the option (so you need two sockets on the amp), it's theoretically better to connect one cab to one socket and the other to the other rather than daisy-chaining (it's not series, it's still parallel). The current getting to the second cab only has to get through one set of connectors for each cab, and there's no additional voltage drop for the second cab from having twice the current going through one cable as the other. Also, if something dreadful happens to one cab so the sockets become disconnected one to the other (not the most likely scenario), you'll just carry on at reduced volume. All this is theoretical - I'm perfectly happy running an amp with one speakon socket and daisy-chaining the cabs.

Naked Touch. God knows why the rest of us couldn't come up with a better name than that (our keyboardist's suggestion).
I always loved Lilly of the Valley, which was the B side of Now I'm Here by Queen. I haven't googled it, bit I don't think it was an album track.
It was on Sheer Heart Attack.
Also, anyone remember the T Rex's Solid Gold Easy Action B-side - Born to Boogie is the B-side but with a Christmas message from Marc Bolan at the start of the track.
Oh yes. "Hi this is Marc Bolan. I'd like to wish you a super funk Christmas and a ?golden? New Year". The B-side of Gary Glitter's single "Rock and roll" was "Rock and roll part 2", the side that finished up being the hit.

Don't know about the bridge, mine seems OK so haven't done anything with it. Jennifer (endorka) put replacement pickups in one - I think it was EMG 40Hz that she used.

Cool looking tuner - Anyone tried one?
Aren't people just seeding the auction title with words that people search for ? A bit like when you see 'not Ampeg, not Trace Elliot, etc ' in the title for a bass amp auction to draw people in who have searched for those makes ? It's sneaky !
And it backfires if I (as any sensible person would) put "-fender" into my search to exclude all Fenders.
