1.
This is why I'm intreagued by the W&T one; if anyone can do it properly, Enrico can ☺
I'm not entirely convinced about that. The W&T headstock is a disaster. I've concluded that the reason that the 5-strings are mostly strung E-C is that if you put a low B string on, the bottom tuner pushes it so far in towards the E string that when it runs over the nut, it's 50/50 whether it will encounter the first fret or fall off the edge of the fretboard. The E and A strings have huge sideways angles as they pass through the nut. Lovely necks, nice sound, but the obvious lack of thought in something as fundamental as a headstock does make me wonder whether they actually would be able to do a sliding pickup properly.
 2.
It certainly won't do 3000W continuously. I seem to remember that Behringer measure maximum power using a 20mS burst - not very meaningful for bass.
But according to the links I posted above, it'll deliver it (the specified power level) for at least a minute. Good job no-one just parrots stuff they vaguely remember hearing, isn't it, otherwise companies could finish up with far worse reputations than they deserve.
 3.
Are you sure Henry VIII wrote it?
Flanders and Swann say he did: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mB-zBJykYj8
 4.
Nah, gotta be the smallest loudest class D head you can find. One extreme to the other.
And one of these to prop in front of it: http://www.thomann.de/gb/warwick_mini_rock_thumb_bass_4.htm This is how it looks with a mini 1x12 combo:
 5. First, go to the powder coaters and get sample tags of each of the colours that they offer. Then you'll know what your choices are. If you made it orange, that would really confuse gearstalkers.
 6.
I don't know if this is still the case, but I recall once upon a time reading that Behringer measures their wattages using PMPO, whereas other manufacturers use RMS. The differences can be huge.
From what I can gather from various bench tests that people have done on Behringer amps, if they're specified as RMS, they're proper RMS, and if they're not specified as RMS, they're about 33% higher than the RMS figure, so use 75% of the quoted figure for RMS power. This is different to PMPO, which appears to be a case of simply making a number up (see http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Speakers-/3702/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=pmpo).
 7.
Interesting stats for the iNuke, thanks! Power ratings for amplifiers are "interesting" anyway, as some RMS ratings do not actually mean "all day long", they mean RMS "for a really short time depending on the input frequency before the rails collapse", which is not RMS. So it's a daft numbers game with amplifiers. Look at how LAB measure their power ratings for their PLM and you'll be scratching your head.
Right, got it. But check what they did on the bench test - running for a minute at full tilt. Wouldn't a supply rail start to dip after seconds if it was running far beyond its means? One minute of transient would be a bit non-real-world.
I only meant the differences between Lab.Gruppen and the Behringer amps is significant - if you take the lid off a PLM2000 (20kW amp?) you'll realise there is zero space mainly due to all the capacitors and copper heatsinks required for getting heat out. They do clever things with their power rail too (but it collapses for high frequencies) - they have a patent on this rail design so it would be interesting to see if it gets incorporated into Behringer's products... You'll struggle to find a photo of inside a PLM2000 but I have one I took somewhere - I'll see if I can find it. Observe the capacitor banks in this (iNuke): http://www.hometheat...-22_855xxxx.jpg It won't kick out much power for long with that lack of storage, surely? If it's putting out bass for extended frequencies, they'll get depleted and then it's down to the power supply to cope. Compare that even to a Powersoft amp and observe Powersoft's neat arrangement of many capacitor banks: http://www.zaj.hu/ke...ge/dsc02852.jpg
There's certainly a lot of capacitors in that. But where do they make the difference in rail (as opposed to smoothing) terms? Is it about sustaining a power supply rail at close to the P-P voltage of the transformer rather than at the RMS level? I ask out of genuine ignorance.
That's the only observation I had on it really, that the market placements between the brands is significantly different. Behringer do make some alright stuff and for the home musician and semipro it is great, you really couldn't even build something yourself that cheap. (I couldn't - can't even solder competently). But bass amplifiers for us bassists are not really amplifiers for sound reinforcement or live sound - it's just a different market segment. You won't see them getting used for festivals or gigs etc., they'll all be d&b amps, Powersoft, Crown, Lab.Gruppen etc. etc. I wonder if it would likely be safer just to keep the different corporations separate and let them continue as is instead of taking the highend technology and putting it into the lower end products - if they do, why would you want to spend significantly more buying the high-end product? It would be devalued. Fiat technically own Ferrari but if they start releasing Fiat's with Ferrari badges on, nobody would believe that this new "Ferrari" was a Ferrari - it's just rebranded Fiat. They've kept the two brands separate and each maintains its own value. You don't buy a Fiat and believe you're getting a Ferrari. If they do otherwise, it'd be a bit like the Porsche 914 and the VW equivalent - the Porsche sold poorly because everybody said "It' a VW...." and ordinary VW buyers would not be tempted, as they'd say "It's not a REAL Porsche...." The Chinese workforce changes every 6 months but that's apparently normal practice. I have a set of Behringer Truth 2031A (massive and strong, you could support your car on them, one amplifier keeps turning itself off though sadly) and they came with calibration certificates. But the test for speakers within the factory is to put a voltage across the terminals and see if the speaker makes a BOOOOOOOOOP sound. That's the test for QC and calibration haha Different market segments, that's all. Let's see if they keep them separate.
I suspect they'll have a look at the features of everything they now own to see if there's anything they can incorporate at lower cost into their more budget range, and hopefully keep the prestige brands as they are. After all, names and reputations are valuable.
 8.
I have had a fair share of Behringer stuff and some stuff failed on me, some stuff was alright. I only wonder with companies like Lab.Gruppen occupying very high ends of the pro sound amplifier market how the low-end Behringer stuff will affect it. [The power ratings for Behringer amps are somewhat optimistic, to put it politely. Take the lid off a Behringer amp and see how much of it is air :-) ]
"Solid state" doesn't mean the whole case is packed full, you know... Some people have actually done some research into Behringer power ratings, instead of just parroting what they'd heard on the interwebs, and it turned out that they were accurate (although if they don't actually say RMS, they're peak, which is 1.414 times RMS). 9.
I can`t stand the singer out of Rush. I hate his voice
Good, it's not just me. He's the reason I don't like Rush. Morrissey - hate him. Some bands sound really good only doing three chords, but I'd expect a vocalist to be able to do more than two notes. Gallaghers - hate them. Droney whiney dreary whingey voices. I'm also not keen on Mark King's voice. Decent enough in terms of phrasing, pitch, etc, but it just seems a little characterless and bland to me. And I can't stand any of the crop of growlers.
 10.
I'd be tempted to look into the variable position (sliding) pickup basses that Wood & Tronics do. I'd love to try one to determine whether it's game-changingly versatile, or just a bit gimmicky.
I think you can tell from the astonishing success of the Westone Rail and the Gibson Grabber just how much this feature has caught the imagination of bassists the world over.
 11.
We dress in late 60s looking clothing but do not go for a look-a-like approach. We dress the stage in a 60s/pyscadellic theme. How would you categorise that? Semi-tribute?
Homage?
 12. For some reason, Mrs Zero seems unenthusiastic about the idea.
 13.
Like Jack Bruce told Clapton; I'm here to make you sound good.
My old guitarist used to make me sound good by making more mistakes than me.
 14. It would be worth trying out an EA iAmp 500 or 800 if you can find one (although that's going to be second-hand) - I think they've got the sort of tone you're looking for. I'd also say go with separates if you can, it means you can change either the amp or the cab. Choice of cabs may be limited by physical requirements. If you'll be carrying it around a lot or haven't got much space to store it/them, you'd be looking for something compact and perhaps lightweight - 2x10, one or two 1x12s, perhaps 2x12. If you are a body builder who enjoys workouts but doesn't care too much what you sound like, go for a Trace-Elliot 4x10 combo. Tweeters - give you a bit more top-end response. From the sound you describe, I'd say you don't need one, but many tweeter-equipped cabs have controls to alter the tweeter's volume or to switch it off entirely which gives you a bit more flexibility than simply eschewing one.
 15.
In my experience the Tecamp stuff sits really well in a live mix. There is a comprehensive range of goodies onboard too. My Black Jag has boostable eq sections for High, Low and High Mids and Bass. I don't think the Pumas have this. There is also a Taste function which gives a wide range of tonal options and a really nice compressor.
The Pumas are a bit more limited, with no compressor or distortion, and the four eq controls are set at fixed frequencies for low, low-lid, high-mid, and high. This means I have less to mess with and cock up, which is a plus point for me.
 16.
It certainly would. From what I understand about him and his bass, it would be practically unplayable.
And probably need hazmat precautions.
 17. I use either a fretted 5-string with roundwounds or a fretless 5-string with flatwounds, depending on which I fancy playing. They're basses, they all sound the same.
 18.
I feel like I'm going crazy . . . not being able to play anything musical in a meaningful way -- no bass, no guitar, no piano, nothing! You see, I broke the right wrist a couple of weeks ago while refereeing as soccer (football) match. It seems that my avenues to musical expresssion have been cut-off and I am NOT happy about it. Music has been a major part of my life since I was a child.
A while ago, I saw someone playing bass who I thought initially was just hammering on so he could adjust amp settings or something. Then I realised that his right arm was completely paralysed. He was still able to play the blues (well) with his left. Most impressive.
 19.
Looking at the Eastwood version, I see that they have a more conventional Tune-o-matic style bridge rather than the Jaguar style that this Harley Benton sports. However Tune-o-matic bridges are fixed radius so I'm going to need one that matches the radius of the HB fingerboard. There's no specs given on either the Thomann site or for the Eastwood model, so how do I measure the fingerboard radius to ensure I get the correct replacement bridge?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Set-Of-9-Radius-Gauges-Guitar-Luthier-Tool-TO17-/130890216986 or, rather cheaper http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Radius-Gauges-Instrument-Guitar-Setup-Measuring-Fingerboard-Fretboard-Saddle-Nut-/301424231615
 20.
speaking of temptation; it's getting harder and harder to resist flying to Germany and personally destroying that mini Thumb.
You should buy one.
 21. There are a few songs I hate hearing among the songs that I play with the club band. I don't actually hate the action of playing them though, although "Dance the night away" is one that I have a constant fight to stay awake to (much like "Dakota" with the other band).
 22. I use a small aluminium case for a Tecamp head, something like this one from Maplin: http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/small-flight-case-with-foam-interior-n50fu
 23.
Thank you all for the answers, that's really helpful. I would use it mainly for my always on effects, ie a bit compression, tube grit and chorus, plus distortion here and there. The smaller MS60b was another thing I considered for that purpose. How easy or difficult is it to change patches on this little pedal in a live situation ?
When I get the round tuits together, I'm going to assemble my Arduino-based patch switcher for MS60-B and B3 - just sends a MIDI program change message to the USB port. Another way of doing this is with an Android phone or tablet with OTG, an OTG to USB adaptor lead and a USB lead to suit, and MIDI Commander on the phone/tablet. Then just put the phone/tablet on your music stand and you're sorted
