That's two of us playing first gigs on Hayman 40/40s. Mine was black though, so it's not my old one.

Isn't it just. After all, we have bin bags, which are about the same plastic content as single-use bags - should a single-use bag be more costly than a bin-bag, as it'll probably get used as one, so it's environmentally equivalent? Would the simplest solution be to abolish the single-use bag and price long-life bags high enough to encourage their re-use but low enough to not be cripplingly expensive? Many years ago, the local Co-op used single-use carrier bags which were made from some sort of starch so they were biodegradable. A very good idea (unless you tried keeping stuff in one for a few years). I don't know why that stopped - perhaps the manufacturing process was more expensive, but the answer to that would be to make the price of a biodegradable carrier bag the same as the manufacturer charges to supply it, and abolish the environmentally permanent plastic bag.

The Prisoner. Of course, there were all those Gerry & Sylvia Anderson series - I remember Supercar, Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Joe 90, and Secret Service. Most, if not all, of them had different start and end music. Sometimes the difference was just having lyrics (also see Taggart), sometimes (eg Stingray) they were completely different tunes. Thunderbirds - I was in the CCF at school, and the CO insisted on the Thunderbirds theme tune (which is a march) for our march-past. For some reason, that hasn't damaged me for life. Or perhaps it has.

With that £1 per bag (I'd agree with pushing up the price, not sure how far), what would you see as the ideal ratio of cost of single-use to bag-for-life? If you make bag-for-lifes (say) a fiver, that discourages people from using them as a big monthly shop could use five or so (and for environmental friendliness, presumably we should keep shopping trips to a minimum). If you make them the same price as single-use, with that price being £1-£2, would people move to bags for life and actually reuse them properly? Counter-intuitively, what about single-use bags being more expensive than bags for life?

Immediately after replying to fleabag, I took two bags for life out to the car to sit in the boot until needed. Mrs Zero does that anyway. Now all I need to do is remember them to take them out of the boot if I go shopping.

And Tony Hatch for Crossroads. 😁

The current version just isn't anywhere near as good. I'd like that original version cleaned up and reused. But that's just my opinion.

Crossroads...

Ah. That doesn't seem to have turned out as planned. I know my memory isn't what it was, but before the 5p charge for carriers, weren't the bag for life type bags quite a bit more expensive? 50p or £1? If they were pushed back up to that price, they might get used more as long-term bags instead of single use. And maybe they're being re-purposed - single use ones finish up as bin bags, but looking round, I have one bag for life holding bubble wrap for re-use, and another holding documents which need to be shredded. So, have all those extra bags for life finished up in landfill (or the ocean), or are they lurking in homes, waiting to be reused?

And, on the BBC, Bergerac.

That's different songs, rather than a cover of a song that the covers band fondly believes bears a strong resemblance to the original?

It sounds like three of us have had similar experiences. Was he also a lazy fokker who would never help carry gear in & out?
-
Apparently their use has dropped by 86% from the big 7 supermarkets, so it has had an impact. I was surprised. Must remember to put a reusable bag or two in my car. Today's multiple parcels have generally been pretty good on packaging. One from Thomann with a monitor in its box inside another box but that included another couple of items. Another order a couple of days ago for a couple of small items came in a small box. And recent deliveries from CPC have been in a jiffy bag when all they needed was a jiffy bag.

Tina Weymouth BBC bass programme in Jan
tauzero replied to arthurhenry's topic in General Discussion
Perhaps they should have had Sting do the bass programme and Andy Summers do the guitar programme, then have a fourth programme in the series which examines the nature of a band, with all three presenting it and ambulances in attendance. -

I bought a Mazeti bass from an erstwhile poster on here. The dragon is a sticker that I put on.

Not longer? Mazeti?

Your experiences of playing in a tribute band.
tauzero replied to Grassie's topic in General Discussion
I've recently joined a Marillion tribute band, doing both Fish and H era material. Not that I look a lot like Pete Trewavas, but I do play a Warwick Thumb. Now I just have to try and play more stuff with a plectrum. We're still looking for a singer though - based in Nottingham, if anyone should know somebody who might be interested. -
God, what an awful song.

I can't play slap. I'd like to be able to but have never managed to get my fingers to co-operate, and can't see a real use for it in any band situation I'm ever likely to be in. I'm not averse to others using it and it's not mandatory for me to watch any Youtube videos with it on. If thine Youtube offends thee, turn it off. However, if someone intends to demonstrate the capabilities of a bass and does nothing but slap on it, that's not a good demonstration. I thought that slap interplay between the two street bassists was rather good. Couldn't have coped with two 45 minute sets of it though. And a while ago, in a prog rock covers band that never fled the nest, we did a couple of King Crimson numbers, Epitaph and Court of the Crimson King. For one of them, there's a video somewhere on Youtube with a post-Greg Lake incarnation of KC performing it, in which the bassist at one point plays some slap and demonstrates why you should never play slap in prog rock.

Whats the most ridiculous thing you have been asked for on stage?

No, but I can't remember what it was.
