I know it hasn't yet been suggested as an option, but just in case - the Behringer AB100 is an A-B switch with two levels on it. The trouble is that they don't work when you're A-Bing two inputs, only when you A-B two outputs, so it wouldn't be suitable for your purposes. Have you considered a little mixer and silent jack leads?

I rather liked the look of the Line 6 G10S, a stompbox version of the G10 wireless - neat system with a dongle transmitter rather than a body pack. So I looked at the price - PMT have them at £238 but the G10 (same transmitter, slightly more basic and less robust receiver) is £99. That's quite a price differential.

At least they only chuck mine over the garden gate, or leave it on the front doorstep. Does show the advantage of Class D over valve amps, though.

Now, where have I seen that idea of having the valve in the middle of the front panel before? Ah, of course - Behringer, that well-known originator of ideas, in their big mic preamp. 😁

They could have proof-read it too - "pitches far above above middle C".

If it's going to be for use gigging in a metal band, something with a few hundred watts output. Other than that, I can't think of any obvious selection or anything to avoid.

Mention of posters reminds me that I drew a logo for that first band, and then discovered that the rest of the band thought the name was spelt differently to what I thought. The band was called Cymex, the name of a vacuum cleaner brand, as one of the members had a single which was an advert for the brand which started "5, 4, 3, 2, 1 - the Cymex are coming" and we used this to introduce ourselves on "stage". However, the others hadn't noticed the spelling and went phonetically, spelling it "Simex". Probably just as well we only did two gigs 😁

And Gasfoodlodging, although the CD with it on is just in the process of being mixed.

It's a long time ago - I was 18 and it was my first bass, so I didn't have anything to compare it with. I PXed it for a P which was a bit lighter, but I think the fretless P I had later was heavier.

The biodegradable bags that the local Co-op was using were good for a few months, so not likely to be sitting in a bin for that long.

I was at one point so foolishly egotistical that I thought I could do lead vocals and bass. The bass bit was OK, and I sang along to it, but my singing was atrocious. I'm a bit better now, and do some BVs, but the only song I've been allowed to sing while playing bass was "Make me smile (come up and see me)" and I played quite a busy bass line for it but left my fingers running on automatic because the lyrics are so ludicrous that you have to concentrate on them. So, that song, a few mind-period T Rex songs (Telegram Sam, Get it On), and quite a lot of Bowie songs should provide that concentration on the lyrics that means you don't have to think about your fingers.

Isn't it just. After all, we have bin bags, which are about the same plastic content as single-use bags - should a single-use bag be more costly than a bin-bag, as it'll probably get used as one, so it's environmentally equivalent? Would the simplest solution be to abolish the single-use bag and price long-life bags high enough to encourage their re-use but low enough to not be cripplingly expensive? Many years ago, the local Co-op used single-use carrier bags which were made from some sort of starch so they were biodegradable. A very good idea (unless you tried keeping stuff in one for a few years). I don't know why that stopped - perhaps the manufacturing process was more expensive, but the answer to that would be to make the price of a biodegradable carrier bag the same as the manufacturer charges to supply it, and abolish the environmentally permanent plastic bag.

The Prisoner. Of course, there were all those Gerry & Sylvia Anderson series - I remember Supercar, Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Joe 90, and Secret Service. Most, if not all, of them had different start and end music. Sometimes the difference was just having lyrics (also see Taggart), sometimes (eg Stingray) they were completely different tunes. Thunderbirds - I was in the CCF at school, and the CO insisted on the Thunderbirds theme tune (which is a march) for our march-past. For some reason, that hasn't damaged me for life. Or perhaps it has.

With that £1 per bag (I'd agree with pushing up the price, not sure how far), what would you see as the ideal ratio of cost of single-use to bag-for-life? If you make bag-for-lifes (say) a fiver, that discourages people from using them as a big monthly shop could use five or so (and for environmental friendliness, presumably we should keep shopping trips to a minimum). If you make them the same price as single-use, with that price being £1-£2, would people move to bags for life and actually reuse them properly? Counter-intuitively, what about single-use bags being more expensive than bags for life?

Immediately after replying to fleabag, I took two bags for life out to the car to sit in the boot until needed. Mrs Zero does that anyway. Now all I need to do is remember them to take them out of the boot if I go shopping.

The current version just isn't anywhere near as good. I'd like that original version cleaned up and reused. But that's just my opinion.

Ah. That doesn't seem to have turned out as planned. I know my memory isn't what it was, but before the 5p charge for carriers, weren't the bag for life type bags quite a bit more expensive? 50p or £1? If they were pushed back up to that price, they might get used more as long-term bags instead of single use. And maybe they're being re-purposed - single use ones finish up as bin bags, but looking round, I have one bag for life holding bubble wrap for re-use, and another holding documents which need to be shredded. So, have all those extra bags for life finished up in landfill (or the ocean), or are they lurking in homes, waiting to be reused?
