1. I thought the phrase "not even wrong" couldn't be applied to music, until now.
 2. We've had two gigs postponed because of the RWC. It's not the end of the world. I suspect that no-one looks at the future sporting fixtures when they book bands in several months before the event. No, the real catastrophe of the Rugby World Cup is the bloody awful version of "World in Union" by Paloma Faith. I'd been ready to give her the benefit of the doubt until then, but it's a dreadful rendition of the song.
 3. Looking again at the body shape, I think I'll exercise my prerogative to change my mind and agree that it is a Zephyr. Sadly there's no authoritative resource for the history of Peavey models.
 4. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vester-Custom-Fretless-Bass-guitar-90s-/131614887837 These used to change hands for somewhere round the £150-£175 mark. Not a bad bass but £395 seems optimistic.
 5. Not a Zephyr, like I said, that has sandwich wings with a contrasting wood colour in the middle that shows up in the forearm cutaway. The wings on this are solid wood. It's an early Grind with modded pickups and bridge. There's pictures of Grinds here and I think the earliest one would be the one shown at the top of page 2 in some rather blurry images: http://en.audiofanzine.com/electric-fretted-bass/peavey/Grind-Bass-4c-NTB/medias/pictures/ It's probably been stained and varnished too.
 6. Peavey, not the Grind before the current one as that has a sort of very large pop groove that extends over the lower forward bout. Not a Zephyr as that's got sandwich wings. I'm not sure if it would be the very first Grind, don't have details of that.
 7.
There has been an add in Guitar and Bass mag for a while that makes me want to be mischievous....it is pretty much "Bass player wanted for rock band must be over 22 years old and HAVE LONG BROWN HAIR" I mean WTF I am so tempted to find a photo of a beautiful naked blonde lady playing bass and send it to them saying....really wanted to apply but hair is wrong colour..sorry goodbye...sadly as yet I have been unable to find said photo to allow me to carry out my evil plan

PM sent.
Pictures or it didn't happen... There's quite often adverts on That Ebay which would provide appropriate imagery.
 8.
IIRC the first six months you have the right to a refund, after that it's a refund/repair/replacement as the retailer sees fit
No, UK and Irish law seem similar - if you use it for a period of time (ie. the fault is not immediately obvious) then you're deemed to have accepted it and the seller should repair or replace (presumably if neither of these are possible then a refund would be given). If the repair/replacement isn't satisfactory then you can ask for a refund.
 9.
I'm sure some of you remember this 'classic' from the early 90s (or was it late 80s)... but did you ever see the video?? A mate of mine just stumbled across it on YouTube and I thought I'd share here. Enjoy http://www.youtube.c...e&v=jxmZZBJQAKM PS: can't embed the video (yeah, I've deleted the 's' in 'https'), so just click the link above. Like in the olden days.
Perhaps because the "feature=youtu.be" is in there?
 10.
They're not really your typical classic rock though are they ? I'm thinking ZZ yawn, sorry micro sleep there Top, and the like. Great fun no doubt for the guitarists involved, I personally hated my brief encounter with it, and wouldn't bother going to watch that kind of band. It's not I have to say, something that I listen to.
In the classic rock covers bands I've played in, I've done plenty of Who, Cream, Free, and other assorted bands with interesting bass lines, and a few with root 8ths (not many though). Thankfully, I've never had to play ZZ Top's song.
 11.
I have a particular dislike for it I once played for a classic rock band, you stand there playing root 8th notes while the 2 guitarists take turns in soloing and pulling funny faces.
Yes, that's what I hate about playing The Who, Cream, and Free covers.
 12.
Likewise. Many years ago I advertised myself as looking for an instrumental jazz/funk band, and the first call I got was from a bunch whose major influence was The Smiths.
I can't think of a better candidate for an instrumental band than The Smiths.
 13.
Why are there fretmarks in the upper register along the FAR side of the neck on that bass?
Avoids parallax error.
 14.
Does Stevie Wonder......."What does Robert Plant??"
And who does Jimmy Page?
 15.
Steve Hackett can't.
Steve Howe is often asked it.
 16. It's true. The Gizmotron bows the strings, the EBow picks up the vibration, amplifies it, and drives the string from a second coil. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EBow
 17. It's there now. However, I'm put off it because apparently it's not tuned. What good is that to me, eh?
 18. I pushed the boat out a bit with a slightly higher 2-digit offer, and got counter-offered £850. Somehow, I've resisted the temptation.
 19. Late 80s Warwicks and at least one Sei headless (mine) are left-hand thread, clockwise to loosen and anticlockwise to tighten.
 20. I can't hear any difference. Well, they're both basses, after all, they both sound like basses. And they're even the same colour so of course they sound the same.
 21. I've got a 10-string Dean which isn't bad, though the neck is very thick. I really ought to play it a bit more.

 23. I do believe that Marvin Gaye wasn't.
 24. I really should read the Events subforum more often. Bugger, would have liked to go to this.
 25.
No no no.... they weren't "left behind". As we all know now, the moon landings were faked.
Proof of that is available here.
