1. Must have a shot at MIDI control of a B3. I've got MIDI control of an MS-60B, though I'll need to build something to do the job as lugging around a desktop just to change patches is a non-ideal solution.
2.
Anybody seen photos of an eBay auction with some topless fella posing "erotically" with a guitar?
No, but there has been the odd naked bloke in an Ebay auction:
3. You could go for ABM's equivalent of the JAN 1: http://www.thomann.de/gb/abm_6250_webster_nut_bass.htm
4. Words fail me. https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/59238678/roger-waters-full-size-smashed-bass
5. For more strange but true instruments: https://www.facebook.com/doniguitars
6.
I reckon it's a Hohner B2A modified with body wings & a veneer on the front covering the original pickup routes. I quite like it.
Control cavity is wrong for a B2A but it could well be a B2 - the control cavity is at a slant to the neck-through, which is right for being parallel to the bottom edge of a B2 body. Looks a very neat job. If it had one more string, I'd be tempted.
7. How about something a little different: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Carved-alder-Guitar-Body-for-Precision-Bass-/261584344766
8.
Ah, gotcha. I didn't realise it was the toy Thumb. I interpreted it as a full size one. Which made my eyes pop out at the size of the speaker on that amp!
Ah yes, the 24" woofer. And don't forget the big knobs on the amp. Everyone should have big knobs.
9. I think that in any band, members have got to be able to give and receive constructive criticism. However, if it's happening constantly rather than occasionally, then there is something wrong with either the criticiser or the criticisee.
10.
@tauzero - in that photo, your speaker looks to be even bigger than 15". It makes the bass look short scale. How big is it?
The Thumb is 17" scale (and not suitable for conversion to Ashboryness). And although the GK was a bit more than £31, the Thumb certainly wasn't.
11. ZZ Top's song. She Sells Thanctuary, mathter. There is one song which isn't root notes all the way through, but is one note all the way through - Waterfront by Simple Minds.
12. SGC Nanyo Bass Collection. Very very light, nice to play. http://m.gumtree.com/p/other-guitar-accessories/sgc-nanyo-bass-collection-5-string-bass-guitar/1079552496 - absolute bargain
13.
I'm gonna definitely stick with this one, but what the hell can I buy her now to match this ;(
So far I've bought Mrs Zero two ocarinas, a stylophone, and (for one Valentine's Day) a didgeridoo. There's plenty of instruments out there...
14. Seeing as we've moved from providing info to willy waving, I took a GK combo, Westone Quantum, bag containing leads and Boss ME6B, and a sleeping bag on the back of a Triumph Tiger 900 from Tamworth to Maidstone and back again.
15.
Think speaker inches. 1x15 is 15 inches of paper moving air. 4x10 is 40 inches moving air.
No, it's volume of air displaced that counts. The area of a 15" speaker is 225sq" [1] and 4x10" total 400sq". I haven't studied Xmax in great detail but I suspect that a 15" speaker would tend to have a bigger Xmax than a 10" speaker, so that brings them closer together in terms of air volume displaced. [1] Well, it's bigger than that as it's a cone. However, imagine a spherical cow...
16. Experiment. I'd say out but I'm no expert.
17.
The only time I've dealt with touts was for a Stones ticket at Wembley on their Steel Wheels tour in the 80s.. Four of us bought regular box office tickets but come the day one couldn't make it so we sold it to a tout on his behalf. We tried half a dozen touts but the best price we could get was less than the original ticket price.
When I was at university in 1975/76, the Stones did a tour. One friend went to see them and told me of touts desperate to sell tickets even at below face value.
18.
I'd also say that the sensor should be outside the room if it's an indoor show - that way the better the sound isolation, the louder you can go - maybe a 125dB sensor inside and a 80dB sensor outside?
I've encountered that. Every time someone opened the door, there was serious risk of the power going out.
19. I've got side (and front) LEDs on my Status S1 fretted and I've got Luminlay markers on the Sei fretless. I find the side LEDs are useful even at reasonable light levels as it takes just a quick glance down to see where the frets are. The Luminlays are good when I remember my LED UV torch. If I'd had the LEDs fitted myself, I don't think I'd have gone for the front LEDs, but they are a fun posey thing...
20.
Just read the bbc mini review and quite frankly staggered that three of her biggest hits including the one that made her a household name were not given an outing !!
Even worse, she did play "Running up that hill".
21. I'm in a band with Mrs Zero. Our most recent gig happened to coincide with our 6th wedding anniversary, which was rather good. It sounds rather as if you're looking for a good solid reason to justify leaving, when actually you just want to leave. Get a new band up and rehearsing and then give the old band notice.
