1. I thought Bo Diddley was the first rectangular guitarist, so as to speak.
2. We use a pair of Behringer B210Ds, just for vocal monitoring and sometimes a bit of guitar. Wouldn't want to put drums and bass through them.
3. Have you got good output from the bass, and is the volume all the way up?
4. Property is heft.
5. I considered the Mono GS-1 but I have the strap at about 47" and want to have the potential to adjust it in either direction, which would have meant two GS-1s. I bought the Neotech Mega instead. Seems well made and comfortable. Doesn't slip either.
6. I thought it would stop it rolling forward as much as it does with the standard position.
7. My Warwick JD Thumb which I bought new in 1987. Doesn't get used these days as I play 5-strings but it's always there...
8.
The celebrity owned thing is interesting. I spoke with one guitar dealer who soar even if a guitar has been celebrity owned, he won't talk about it or list it, preferring to sell the guitar on its own merits. When I asked why he told me a funny, if slightly sad, story about a friend who had invested a load of their savings in Rolf Harris artwork.
The value of my Gary Glitter album plummeted a few years ago.
9.
Didn't he have pretty serious hip problems? Sure I read that somewhere.
Apparently yes, and also apparently wouldn't have hip replacements as that would have entailed a blood transfusion and as a Jehovah's Witness, he wouldn't have that.
10.
It seems Mr Torkington now does an Elton John tribute act.
Will Elton John take out an injunction, or will he think it's super?
11. Pro Audio Service in Coalville. He's done a couple of repairs on SRM450s for me. http://www.proaudioservice.co.uk
12. Crafter are also good, I bought one for £175 which was up there with several more expensive instruments. Or get a Variax 300 solid-body and use the acoustic patches, that's what I use for gigging purposes.
13.
Flanging is *possibly* even older than overdrive (there's certainly not much in it). It was discovered in the 1940s, legend has it by a certain Mr Les Paul. The original effect was made by manipulation of tape machines (hence the name). Bucket brigade implementation came *much* later.
That was an effect on recorded sound - don't think a tape system was ever used to do flanging as a live effect, which is what I assume this is about.
14. It's actually a B2V which has been converted to active. The strap button move is a good idea, keep meaning to move mine in the same way.
15.
I don't remember it from last year, but I am just about to start on an own-design cello, loosely based on this yew/mahogany violin I did a couple of years ago - looks nice, plays like s**t - so would be very interested in terms of the weight, balance, etc... I know an upright bass is somewhat different to a cello, but the CofG issues, etc, are likely to be similar.
I could bring an NS WAV-4 along too if that would be of interest, and former cellist Mrs Zero.
16.
You've missed my first sentence from your quote. Which effectively makes the rest of my post seem ridiculous as you've taken it completely out of context. Strange thing to do really.
Was it too ironic to be ironic about being ironic about irony?
17.
If you're unhappy with Flea's performance then you should be addressing your criticism to him, not a bunch of English bass players. If you're unhappy with the way a bunch of English bass players are critiscising Flea then you should be addressing those bass players.
Gosh, that's a good idea. So everyone who criticises basses with nice figured tops, go and whinge about them to the luthiers, not on here. And the moaners about headless basses, same to you. And no matter how sh*t the performance, don't criticise it on here, go and tell the artist. And if you feel that someone has said something that you're unhappy with, tell them direct, don't moan about it on the forum. That should get the postings on here down to a manageable two or three a week then.
18. I prefer the Schaller as the locking mechanism is not itself under load, it's just holding the strap pin in the cradle of the strap lock. I've used them since my first Warwick in 1987.
19. There was one victim of an almost-lawsuit - Beater stopped production when Fender went after them.
20. Wall hangers? Then you're not taking up any floor.
21. Alto do a 12" sub that's about £220 and is light. I'm thinking of getting one.
22.
The listing is entitled EX PINO PALLADINO FENDER JAZZ BASS STACK KNOB - 1961 -VINTAGE FENDER BASS - WHO I'm pretty sure The Who qualify as a "famous band" to most bass players ...
Unless the shop doesn't know who he and are enquiring. "Pino Palladino - who?".
23. Historically, probably distortion, then echo using tape loops, ring modulators, and then as semiconductors got into the act, phasers and waa-waa. Later on, with bucket-brigade devices, chorus, flanger, reverb. Then as integrated circuits increased in complexity, digital delays, and eventually the current effects modelling systems.
24.
Holy crap! I didn't think a new Fender badge would generate so much anxiety! At least it's actually on a Fender product! In fact, it's the only genuine USA Fender part on the whole combo! Just think what would have happened if I'd stuck a Phil Jones badge on there instead! Bloody hell!
You should have put a Squier badge on it, squire.
25.
Agree that many basses look the same. Once you start building a 'two horn' type bass everything looks a bit similar in the body department. It is a case of function over form. Another example (loosely) is the Gibson Thunderbird shape which could conceivably be traced back to the Telecaster - just 'push' the upper body back.
The Les Paul is rather more like the Tele - a singlecut but attractive rather than gopping like a Tele.
