It would do you no harm to get a drummer in who's done a gig or two (or more), as long as they're happy to wait a bit before you're ready to gig. You want someone who can play more than one beat and keeps reasonable time, and doesn't get lost doing overambitious fills. Note: it's all very well saying "enthusiasm more important than ability" in an advert but you have to be prepared to find yourself trying out a series of enthusiastic [politically-incorrect word that rhymes with "enthusiastic" and betokens poor physical co-ordination]s. Presumably you'll be playing in the Town Hall and not outside the Village? At least you'll have a captive audience.

I bought a pair of B-stock SRM450 V2s for £325 (there's still some going for a little more money on That Ebay, search for SRM450 B-stock). I use them with a small but perfectly formed Behringer Xenyx 1002B mixer (very small footprint but still has slider faders) for vocals. Still looking for decent (and cheap) monitors, currently using a pair of cheapo QTX PAJ-10As. Avoid Behringer powered mixers - the power supplies are made of fragilium. However, if you want a bombproof power amp, the discontinued Behringer EP2500 is good (but heavy).

Just think of the telly as a calibration of sound level and extraneous noises as going from inaudible = acceptable to louder than the telly = unacceptable. And please, don't ever move in next to me.

That would contribute to the problem, the further forward the speakers can go (or the further back the mic), the higher the volume can go without feedback. The floor would be less of an issue than a hollow stage, which makes things boomy and where you can get feedback through the stage itself. I'd be inclined to look at the room generally and see what oddities it had.

We used to play a bit of Quo in the ceilidh band - the middle 8 from "Burning Bridges". Great band, I saw them a couople of years ago in Brum and thoroughly enjoyed it. Don't think I've got any of their stuff on anything more recent than vinyl though.

One of the pioneers of tribute was Bjorn Again. T. Rextasy are pretty successful. Another I've encountered (but never seen) is Alike Cooper.

I'm up for it too. Seem to have a rather fallow period at the moment so I'm not particular about date, a Saturday or Sunday afternoon would be great.

Audacity is available for the Mac. I use it for editing audio recordings from a Zoom Q3 - generally just select a track, normalise it, and export selection. There's lots of other effects available.

Actually, I might take up the trombone. When I was at school playing guitar in a Glenn Miller tribute band, one of the trumpet players had a missing hand. He had a sophisticated hook for everyday use but he'd take that off for playing the trumpet and put on a special adaptor. And a while ago I played a gig at a pub which had a house band. I thought the (two-armed) bassist was playing with hammer-ons so he could make adjustments to his amp, but after a little while realised that he simply didn't have the use of his right arm. Turned out he'd had a stroke some time before but it hadn't stopped him playing.

I'm sure I'd find a way round it. After all, it's all that most of the bass players in the bands round here use.

I saw a bit of their Glastonbury performance. That was quite enough for me.

I've heard back from Tecamp. Apparently some (nominally) 4 ohm cabs can be a little too low impedance and the power amp gets too warm and cuts out (though the case doesn't get all that hot), and there's a mod that Tecamp themselves do to add a fan by the ventilation slot (just glue it in with a silicone glue and solder up to a 12V supply from somewhere). They're supposed to be invoicing me and sending me a fan but I haven't heard from them yet. They sent me a photo from which I can make out that the fan is a Sunon MagLev 40x40x40mm fan, so it's probably a HA40201V4-0000-999, and they put a resistor in series with that, the value of which I don't know. If you're playing into an 8 ohm load, there's no need to worry.
