I like both bands and both players, though the one who is the more likely to have influenced my own playing is Entwistle. In both cases, I don't listen to the bass parts, I listen to the band.

Any bass that I play is cool. Especially my headless fretless fancy wood faced Sei Original 5. Fenders are not cool, they are tepid. This is obvious because I won't have one.

[/quote] When I went to see The Who a couple of years ago at the NIA, the support band's bassist after every song played his open strings "bink bank bonk bunk" for no apparent reason. Unless it was to make sure he'd still got all four strings, I suppose.

Spare bass, spare amp, two 1x12s so I've got a bit of redundancy, leads as well as wireless. PA is two Mackie SRM450s and a pair of Behringer BD210s for monitoring. Spare batteries, box of cheap wired mics in case there's any severe issues with wireless.

Isn't there a 6-string with four fretted strings and the D and G strings repeated as fretless? So it's E A D G D G with the bottom four fretted.

Any more than 5 strings on a bass is pure narcissism so you can do your own arithmetic.

The new Eich 1000 - 2x500W at 2 ohms or bridged, 1x1000W at 4 ohms. Not a cheap option though.

58, gigging now more than I've ever done in the past (although at 20-30 gigs a year that's not up to the three gigs a weekend that some have managed). Would rather like to do some original material as a side project but I think I'll just have to do that in the studio with Mrs Zero as I can't interest the guitarist.

I asked Zoom about the possibility of a B5 and also asked them about the MS100BT to see whether they might ever do Android software for it. No to both (the latter certainly surprised me, you'd think that they'd do something about the fact that they're ignoring 50% of the market). Never say never though.

Peavey Grind BXP, certainly well within your budget. I think the Cirrus (both BXP and USA) is the same string spacing and width but the neck profile is a fraction chunkier.

Since I found a 5 with a neck that compared in playing terms with my Warwick JD Thumb (the JD has a very slim and shallow neck which I love), I've settled on 5s. However, I'm not selling my Thumbs as if I should ever go back to 4-strings, they're the ones I'll want.

[/quote] Not really, I play in a fairly typical pub covers band and it's utterly irrelevant to me because we use backline and vocal PA, not full band through the PA, except for the very occasional occasions where there's an in-house PA. So the reason I have a 900W amp and speakers that can handle about 2/3 of that is that I'm not going to have to worry about whether I've got enough power to do some venue or other.

I have the Markbass which is backup to my Tecamp Puma 900. I used it at one gig to check that it could do the job and it can - the Puma only ever runs at tickover though. Physically bigger than the Puma, not unwieldy though, plenty of oomph.
