1. Not a comment on the sound, but they do seem to have sneakily incorporated the Fender "F" into the Harley-Benton "H" (wot, no "B"?):
2. Have you tried reading http://www.award-session.com/pdfs/GEAR_TALK_1.pdf ?
3.
Now the amp does not produce any sound at all from the speaker, even if the power light is on. If I put on headphones I can hear the bass playing at a very low volume and the sound is heavily distorted.
You could have damaged either or both of the ICs. You can check if IC2 is damaged by seeing if something played through the CD input comes out through speaker or headphones. If it doesn't, or if it's heavily distorted, IC2 is dead.
4.
Found the offending article: Taming the 5-String Bass : Recording Magazine
First he refers to the different timbre of the low B (although there's timbral change across all the strings, regardless of how many you have), then connects this with the notes below bottom E - what about the ones above bottom E? Then he goes on about the structural differences between 4- and 5-strings - yes there are, but any timbral effects this will have will apply to all the strings. And finally this
If the tune you’re recording doesn’t make use of any of those notes on the B string, that lowest string is nothing but a liability. Or a status symbol. Or a thumb rest.
is unutterable bollocks. Looks like he's a bassist who doesn't understand the 5-string bass.
5. Might help if you also had the D string strung up in the picture - in fact, a picture with the D string just before you put it in the machine head (showing how far it extends past the machine head) would also be useful. If you haven't got many wraps round the post of the machine head, try just putting a very short bit of string into the central hole (rather than just pushing it to the bottom) which would give you an extra half a turn or so round the post.
6. Perhaps Thomann send them the sub-deko ones.
7. Aren't you in Lichfield? For future reference, Flightcase Warehouse are in Tamworth and are both retail stockists and makers of flightcases.
8. More like a Flying U than a Flying V.
9. It's been pulled by the seller as error in the listing, so he's done the right thing.
10. No "Kayleigh", no "Won't get fooled again"? And I'm not sure about most recognisable bassline, I suspect that it might be "With or without you". ISTR learning "Higher and Higher" - just two notes, if it's the one I'm thinking of.
11. Blink-182 were named after an episode of the spin-off series from the Doctor Who episode "Blink", which was the first appearance of the Weeping Angels. In episode 182, the Weeping Angels encounter the Hells Angels, leading to considerable destruction until Roger Daltrey flies overhead singing and the two sides put aside their differences, at least until an argument starts over the relative merits of Entwistle and Palladino. The spin-off series has yet to be shown on British television.
12.
But will the upper cab not be "coupled" to the lower cab, which is coupled to the floor? The whole stack effectively functioning as a single cab?
It's acoustic rather than mechanical coupling. See http://barefacedaudi...or-coupling.htm And the drivers for the upper cab will be well above the floor so they won't couple to it.
13. No, riding a bike for years with no earplugs did.
14. Ah, the memory of that USB port is starting to come back to me - didn't seem to be a proper USB implementation, I was never able to make it work through a hub (may have been a rubbish hub, if course).
15. Use a Tascam GB-10 and dispose of the MP3 player.
16. How happy would you be to open the amp up yourself and take a look?
17. With the configuration you have there, the 8 ohm drivers would carry twice the load of the 4 ohm ones. I'd go with dincz's suggestion, which has the added potential benefit that you can use it with amps that don't go down to 2 ohms (ie. the vast majority).
18. There you go. I say potato, you say tomato.
19. Manual says it's octaves 0-8. MIDI values: http://www.electronics.dit.ie/staff/tscarff/Music_technology/midi/midi_note_numbers_for_octaves.htm
20.
It would be very bizarre indeed to have an 8 ohm 8x10...
A little surprising, maybe, but all you'd need to do is use 16 ohm drivers, 4 in parallel in series with another 4 in parallel or a variant thereof. That way, you could have two 8x10s for that true smashing-the-walls-down experience, and take up all the floor space at the Dog and Doublet.
21.
I've tried it both ways. Both cabs, on their own, are quite different. But when you put 'em one on top of the other - it's real hard to tell the difference ..... if there is any real difference to hear. Depends where you stand. If you are standing right beside them - then you can hear the different cabs. Take yourself more than three yards away - and they sound like one combined bass sound. To me ................. and I don't really care what so called experts who know a lot more about me and can say "says it all" say. That's what I hear and that's what I think.
You'll get floor coupling with the lower of the cabs - whether that makes any significant difference in this case, I don't know. You could experiment - put them one way round and play through just the 1x15, then just the 2x10, then swap them over and see if the sound changes noticably.
22. I have the Tecamp 900 and that does the job for me - clean and plenty of lows (I do wonder what cabs k50 was running his with, with Berg AE112s mine is fine). Another one to consider is the EA iAmp800. Still under 10kg but a fatty compared to most of the others on the list, hi-fi but with a sound I can best describe as creamy.
23. Thinking further on it, does the Superfly take MIDI through the USB port? It's so long since I had mine that I've forgotten. If so, you don't need the MIDIsport, just one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FOR-MICRO-UB-DEVICES-SAMSUNG-S5-99P-PRICE-MICRO-USB-TO-USB-OTG-CABLE-/131468881164 and your USB lead and MIDI Commander.
24. I used to stack two GK Neo IIs on their sides like that and never had any issues.
25. "Kayleigh", I think. "Don't speak" went down well too. One which has surprised us with the response we've had is "One of us" by Joan Osborne, played slightly faster than the original.
