We used to play a bit of Quo in the ceilidh band - the middle 8 from "Burning Bridges". Great band, I saw them a couople of years ago in Brum and thoroughly enjoyed it. Don't think I've got any of their stuff on anything more recent than vinyl though.
It's not the noise from both, rather the assumption that the music has to stop because the all important tele may be disturbed. The tele, now indirectly disturbing the music.
Is the telly loud enough to disturb you? If not, then I think you may need to readjust the level of your playing field.

Daft Pun (Tribute Bands with Inventive Names)
tauzero replied to cloudburst's topic in General Discussion
One of the pioneers of tribute was Bjorn Again. T. Rextasy are pretty successful. Another I've encountered (but never seen) is Alike Cooper. -
3. tauzero - Tecamp Puma 900, TC RS112 (if there's room for more cabs), Sei 5-string everythingless, Warwick JD Thumb 4-string, Antoniotsai 5-string, probably a couple of Zoom things (B3 and/or MS60B)

AFAIK I can do either.

I'm up for it too. Seem to have a rather fallow period at the moment so I'm not particular about date, a Saturday or Sunday afternoon would be great.

Software for editing & mastering live/rehearsal recordings
tauzero replied to Junkyard Rocket's topic in General Discussion
Audacity is available for the Mac. I use it for editing audio recordings from a Zoom Q3 - generally just select a track, normalise it, and export selection. There's lots of other effects available. -
How would you approach bass if you had only one finger on each hand?
tauzero replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
Actually, I might take up the trombone. When I was at school playing guitar in a Glenn Miller tribute band, one of the trumpet players had a missing hand. He had a sophisticated hook for everyday use but he'd take that off for playing the trumpet and put on a special adaptor. And a while ago I played a gig at a pub which had a house band. I thought the (two-armed) bassist was playing with hammer-ons so he could make adjustments to his amp, but after a little while realised that he simply didn't have the use of his right arm. Turned out he'd had a stroke some time before but it hadn't stopped him playing. -

I'm sure I'd find a way round it. After all, it's all that most of the bass players in the bands round here use. -
I've never begged for a job before ..... but ...

I saw a bit of their Glastonbury performance. That was quite enough for me. -
Could I join the queueueueue please?
A deliberately damaged musical instrument is an aberration, a passing fad which will one day be viewed with contempt and amusement. If there is one thing it does NOT require, it's artistic skill.
Just a cold, cold heart.

I've heard back from Tecamp. Apparently some (nominally) 4 ohm cabs can be a little too low impedance and the power amp gets too warm and cuts out (though the case doesn't get all that hot), and there's a mod that Tecamp themselves do to add a fan by the ventilation slot (just glue it in with a silicone glue and solder up to a 12V supply from somewhere). They're supposed to be invoicing me and sending me a fan but I haven't heard from them yet. They sent me a photo from which I can make out that the fan is a Sunon MagLev 40x40x40mm fan, so it's probably a HA40201V4-0000-999, and they put a resistor in series with that, the value of which I don't know. If you're playing into an 8 ohm load, there's no need to worry.

Les Paul with optional Telecaster sound?
tauzero replied to itsmedunc's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
The words "It seemed like a good idea at the time" come to mind. -
That sounds like a good thing to me. No crackly pots and the pickup works. If there was noise from the controls and no sound from the output, that would be bad.

I really should keep up here. The single-coil pickup is an original fitting on a Gibson Les Paul Studio Lite M-111. -
I was another who got sacked so the best mate could join. What was particularly iffy was that they didn't tell me - eventually the rhythm guitarist (who hadn't particularly favoured bringing in the best mate) had the goodish grace to text me and let me know. That rankled for a while. There was a silver lining though - I was going to dep for a former guitarist's band, finished up joining permanently instead, then we drafted in Mrs Zero on vocals when the vocalist went AWOL. In an unfortunate twist, the best mate bassist subsequently developed cancer. I haven't hear any further news - I know he had to leave the band. I hope his treatment has been successful because I'm not anywhere near nasty enough to wish that on someone.

I'm in three bands: http://thelightning.co.uk - The Lightning, mainly classic rock covers but some originals, fronted by Mrs Zero http://spiralsix.co.uk - Spiral Six, rock covers from 60s to present day http://mixedherbsband.co.uk - Mixed Herbs, female-fronted club/functions band that isn't doing an awful lot of clubs or functions ATM Mrs Zero and I do the occasional bit of duetry as Second Time Round: http://secondtimeround.org.uk Hmmm, better remove the ceilidh band from my sig...

I have a Tecamp Puma 900, bought second-hand off BC late last year. I've used it with an 8 ohm 1x12 cab and a 4 ohm 4x10 (not simultaneously). I've had no issues at all with the 8 ohm cab. However, using the 4 ohm (not at particularly high volumes), I've had the power amp cut out several times after about 40 minutes of playing. The most recent occasion was Saturday night, and as I was also DIed to the PA from the DI socket on the Tecamp, I was able to determine that it was only the power amp cutting out, the preamp up to the DI was working OK. That also eliminates the possibility of it being an input lead at fault. Ambient temperature isn't a factor - this has happened in a rather hot pub and also on an outdoor gig when there was snow on the ground. I use the same speaker lead (speakon-speakon) with both cabs. Does anyone know if there's some sort of cut-out on the power amp section of Tecamps? If there is, does this behaviour seem a bit over-protective? And if there isn't, what's the likely cause? Dry joint? I have emailed this question to Tecamp too, I'm hoping that the language barrier won't be too much of a problem.

Is a defretted bass , as good as a fretless ?
tauzero replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in General Discussion
Those on my Warwicks have a different design. They comprise a flat, fixed base and a slotted top piece that's mounted on the base with two screws, which can be used to raise or lower it. High-end Warwicks have brass adjustable nuts, mine are humble plastic, but they work fine.
The ABM ones on Thomann are very similar to the Warwick Just-A-Nut I. The Just-A-Nut II was as you describe and the JAN III seems to be a brass version of the JAN II. While a nut should really be set-and-forget, it is nice to be able to change string height at the nut easily and reversibly. -

tauzero replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in General Discussion
Watch out for the position of the side dots on the neck - a defretted bass will have them in a different place from a bass that's fretless from the start.
That depends. Lined fretlesses will probably have the markers where they are on a fretted bass, unlined fretlesses will almost certainly have the markers on the fret position, although I have owned one unlined that had the dots where they would be on a fretted. My Sei (lined fretless) had the dot markers in the fretted positions until I had them moved (and replaced by Luminlay). -
4 string 35" scale....big difference to play?
tauzero replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
I have a couple of Grind BXPs, a 5-string and a 6-string, and never found any problem swapping between those and 34" scale basses. The one I do have a slight problem with is my Mazeti fretless, as I have smallish hands and there's a bit of a stretch playing at the lower positions. -
Have you seen the basses where the title says "Xxxxx Bass, not fender" -http://www.ebay.co.u...=item20d40edebf
Indeed. A stupid idea as it means that if someone doesn't want Fenders in the results and puts in "-fender" as a search term, all the "not fender gibson warwick" ones will get ignored.
I never thought the Pistols were punk. Just a bunch of idiots who couldn't play which dictates how their music turned out. Trying to claim youre punk because you're technically restricted isnt punk for me.
I've always puzzled at the people who think that the Pistols couldn't play.
