Just bought a Tecamp Puma 900 off Ryan. Everything went smoothly, though the courier (Hermes via Interparcel) was glacial in pace which just increased my anticipation...
As I've mentioned in another thread, I remember Gary Moore saying If you walk into a room where you keep your guitar and not feel the need to pick it up, then maybe it's not for you.
But didn't he also say that if you can walk into a room, you haven't had enough to drink?

When I'm using effects, a Zoom B3 (mainly for chorus, also for phaser, slow attack, octave up, octave down, and very very rarely a little bit of distortion).

Larry Graham - bass playing equivalent of Jimi Hendrix?
tauzero replied to paulconnolly's topic in General Discussion
Hendrix is familiar by name to at least 95% of non-musicians who listen to rock music, and his work is familiar to 95% of musicians who play guitar. Jaco is familiar by name to less than 5% of non-musicians who listen to rock music, and his work is familiar to 5% of musicians who play bass. One of these days I'll have to get round to having a listen to him. McCartney, Wyman, or Entwistle would be the ones who got the popular recognition, and I wouldn't exactly describe McCartney or Wyman as mould-breaking. -
Needing a bass for Eb tuning is a great excuse for a new one '. I have 2 bass's what excuse though to get a headless as well?
That's easy for me, I just pointed out that when we play on small stages it means I don't stick the head in Mrs Zero's ear. Evidence below...

shergold marathon fretless ending soon kent
tauzero replied to stu_g's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
That's a blast from the past. Is it just me, or is the E string a little but close to the edge of the fingerboard up at the dusty end?
The intonation adjustment screw for the E saddle looks to be pointing off to the side whereas the A string screw seems to run parallel to the string, so it could just be that the saddles need a bit of shifting around. Is that the right bridge for a Marathon? My old Hayman 40/40 had a rather different design, not a BBOT clone. -
Surprised the Rickenwaffe haven't spotted these however very wisely no reference to the name or headstock pics. Can anyone recommend a courier to move a VERY large cab?
tauzero replied to Beedster's topic in General Discussion
A quick check on UPS's website shows that their standard delivery would be £70 (I used Canterbury to Edinburgh for distance). -
Singer in one of my bands sometimes hits the top of his range. The guitarist always has two guitars on hand, one tuned a semitone down (used for numbers which are normally a semitone down anyway), so if just swapping guitars is what's needed, that's what we do. I think there's one song which we had to bring down quite a way - "Keep on running". We needed to bring it down to E, but the guitarist needed it in F for his fingering, so he uses the downtuned guitar for that too.

Not hard to find a website (googling "fox star bass" gets you straight to http://www.woodviewenterprises.com/FoxStarBass.html ) and it would appear that the bass would have been made in Brazil, so the top UK luthier would be someone else. I must say the Amazona B3 5-string acoustic bass looks jolly nice (as does the Star base on That Ebay, come to that).
I've wondered why somebody hadn't done this before...I've got a spare headless system for just this kind of thing (finding a good bass with a broken headstock)
But why waste a decent headless system on a Precision?

After seven years with my ceilidh band (my audition consisted of a gig, having never heard the music before or tried to play it), I still busk it, while having certain fills etc that I've worked out for particular tunes. As long as we make less cock-ups than the dancers, we're ahead on points... It's actually taught me quite a lot about music generally. My 25-year-old Thumb doesn't have any issues with its JAN. -
So, if I want to create a shape to sell as a Rackenbicker, how much does it have to deviate from the original spec to avoid infringing the trademark? Is that why all the effort goes into taking individual sales off eBay, when there doesn't seem to have been as much effort to stop the production at source?
The notices that RIC sent to Basschat about the Rick trademarks show only the headstock and TRC as being trademarks that they insisted on protecting. Presumably a Rick copy that only had the body the same as a real Rick and where no reference was made to the "R" word wouldn't infringe those trademarks.
Maybe someone should do some bass tone sims too, obviously not ricken#@$&er though cos that would be naughty!
Line 6's Variax bass had Rick sims, and the manual states:
CLANG The Rickenbacker 4001 was first offered in 1961. While the “cresting wave” body certainly stands out on stage, it’s the sustain from the neck-through construction and biting attack from the unique pickups that have made the 4001 a favorite of such diverse artists as Chris Squire, Geddy Lee, and Lemmy. We’ve modeled both the classic 60’s version (Paul McCartney’s “other sound”), with the “horseshoe” pickup and flatwounds, and the hardrockin’ 70’s version, with its brighter bridge pickup and roundwounds. GREEN based on 1971 Rickenbacker 4001. RED based on 1963 Rickenbacker 4001 with flatwound strings. Rickenbacker is a registered trademark of Rickenbacker International Corporation. All product names are trademarks of their respective owners, which are in no way associated or affiliated with Line 6. These product names, descriptions and images are provided for the sole purpose of identifying the specific products that were studied during Line 6’s sound model development.
For that matter, they've done it with Rickenbacker guitars (my Variax 300 has assorted Ricks in it). It would be very difficult to trademark a guitar or bass sound, especially when you have tone controls on them.

You can either use a snipe tool yourself or actually bid the maximum amount you're prepared to bid. If that maximum amount is more than the amount that the snipe tool has set, you win. -
I'm also mucho impressionado. How do you even find stuff like that? When I google for "huge bass guitar", I get:
Memory - I remembered seeing the giant Schack bass on ebay some time back and so I just had to find an appropriate search (schack monster bass, I think).
