2.
Personally i find it hard not to buy stuff when i come on here.
I find it very easy not to buy stuff when I come on here. If I had some money, it would be a different matter...
 3.
A bit of light exercise in sight-reading: www.jeffreythompson.org/blog/tag/faeries-aire-and-death-waltz/
A waltz? But it's in common time!
 4. Better to have one string too many than one string too few...
 5. It's a Bruce Wei (who seems to have stopped doing basses now). I rather fancy one to go with my Antoniotsais but I'm a bit short of funds ATM.
 6. I remember the old days of dialling TIM and getting the Speaking Cock:
 7.
Got given a P bass yesterday but I don't what colour I should do it in, any ideas?
What's wrong with it as it is? People would pay a fortune for relicing like that.
 8. I've got a Grind BXP 6-string. Excellent playability, sounds reasonable to me though I'd like active rather than passive. I compared the necks of various 5-strings at PMT a while ago, and the Peaveys came out top with the Grind being nicer than the Cirrus BXP which was nicer than the USA Cirrus, so when a new condition Grind 6 came up twice on That Ebay at half street price and had no love, I had to go for it.
 9.
I'm just too tired to argue with this kind of rant, when one of the most melodic bassplayers and musicians on the whole, along with other cats, is blamed for showing off chops. Don't you really think it's more than stupid to make such statements about these cats judging from 4 minute video? All I can say, is, stop talking nonsenses, go buy that album, listen to it about hundred times, and if you still think that they're showing off chops.. Then please show us music, which is really melodic.
They're not cats, they're people. I went to see Janek in Smoke-on-Trent (the evening that PeteAcademy promoted) and while I was impressed by his ability and articulacy, the recordings of him and his [s]clowder[/s] band didn't really do anything for me. Well played but a bit insipid. Before you get all arsey, I should also point out that I find Donald Fagen's "Nightfly" a truly soporific experience.
 10.
Below is the gentlemans reply The "no offence" bit is a sarcastic reply to my politeness. Another FEEBay tit. "if you are not interested in buying the guitar at this price then dont waste your time or my time reading the message. you are the first person to point this out and i always have a few watchers. but please "no offense". - theused_123"
Ting!
 11.
Best I can do for you mate. I know the old arguments about refinishing, but I'm with you - pointless being so close to the pink when it's too floppy.
Trouble is that you can't see the socket arrangement from there, and the Rick-O-Sound was a big selling point. Have you got any pictures of the underside?
 12.
If you kept your Jack Sh*t, you could pair it with a hole I'm hoping to shift. It's currently in the ground at the moment, but I could get it removed and parcelled up without too much trouble. It's a 15" hole and sounds immense. I also have a 12" hole - currently stored in a fence for safe keeping - small and ideal for gigging. Worth consideration surely?
I understand that four 10" holes would be more suitable. As Bernard Cribbens said, I really dig them holes.
 13.
This looks quite tidy for £40 BIN: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Jazz-Style-Bass-/270662847508
Intriguingly described as "Manufacturer refurbished" in the "Condition" bit. I suspect that is, er, slightly unlikely.
 14. Never take a photo of your bass against a white wall when it's on a hanger - this one looks like it's got a goitre.
 15. I can't help but think that putting his BIN up to nearly 2k is really shooting himself in the foot to spite his face. I watch quite a few things without bidding on them. If I sell something, I don't assume that every watcher is going to bid on it. You'd think that the seller (who IIRC has a feedback of over 500) would have been able to work that out by now.
 16. Do you fancy a vintage SFA?
 17. I'm now watching it on both my ebay accounts. The next stage is the Making of the Offer. Starting at £100 and incrementing by £1, how long until he caves in?
 18. If you use 8 ohm cabs, it's about 175W per channel. The aluminium gubbins doubles the weight and reduces the cooling. Removing it (and sticking some rubber feet on) is a not uncommon mod.
 19. First gig for the new lineup of Spiral Six aka covers band A. We were a six-piece - one male and one female vocal, two guitars, and the drummer and I. However, the rhythm guitarist and female vocalist left (not band issues) and so we were four. Venue was the Grapes in Stafford, which is actually a music pub. Did a one hour set with no great problems - the bass drum hasn't got spikes on it so it migrated south, and speaking of South, if the South had moved as quickly as we did "Sweet Home Alabama", they'd have won the war. Just need to get a bit snappier between numbers.
 20.
Regarding Silddx's reggae-playing comment, I think I have to agree to some point. When I first started playing as a teenager, me and a percussionist started a band. He was part of a local black community, so the band consisted mainly of Jamaican musicians, including his very charismatic saxophonist dad. These guys would often push to play reggae, and I was totally out of my depth. They had grown up with the music and had an unbelievable feel for it that would take years for anyone else to master.
Reggae's dead easy if you know the seekrit, which is that the bass player is too stoned to remember to play on 1, and by the time he remembers, he puts a few extra notes in to make up for it.
 21.
But playing the correct notes doesn't need a knowledge of theory. Your ear should tell you if the notes are wrong.
I sometimes find, when I'm tired, that my ear tells me I'm out of tune when I'm not. Instrument tuned correctly, fingers playing correct string and correct fret [1], no-one else in the band is staring at me in horror, yet it sounds wrong. This'll tend to happen two or three hours into a rehearsal, and doesn't happen every time by any means. [1] I'm used to it when I'm playing fretless...
