1. Looks like someone got a bargain. £4650 in 1988 - by comparison, my JD Thumb cost £900 in 1987. I'd have gone for it myself if I'd had a couple of grand to spare...
2. I notice that he gives an RRP in the auction. Wonder what retailers would sell his works of, er, summat?
3.
Fender USA Precision. Nothing else comes close. Accept no substitute. Strap on. Rock.
Sold mine in 1987 to get a Warwick. For some reason I later bought a fretless USA Precision, which I sold not long afterwards (it wasn't a patch on the Frontier fretless bass that I traded in for it). Never felt any desire whatsoever to go back to one.
4.
I've been playing for getting on for 40 years (admittedly only originals until recently) and I could only busk Louie Louie and maybe the main riff to Sunshine. I don't even know what Tush is.
You could probably find your way round a couple of others, Sanctuary is only three chords. As for Tush, it's a ZZ Top song. If you've ever heard a ZZ Top song, you've heard Tush, even if it was called something like "Legs" or "Sharp Dressed Man".
5.
Argh my internet is being really weird tonight... that's it, I'm spanking the router
Ah, that'll be what caused the triple posting then. Take care, you might go blind, and then you'd have to start designing reliced Warwick basses.
6.
But hey, I'm no expert, if I paid a lot of dosh for a bass I'd look after it thus making the resale value better than some beat up crap.
Years ago, when I bought a second-hand Precision (in the days when they were only made in the USA), the one that was the best player was also the tattiest, hence the cheapest. I suppose nowadays it would be the most expensive.
7. Update: half an hour after I arrived at the depot, they told me that the parcel had been delivered to next door. I did manage to get through to them on the phone - for some reason, they couldn't get my consignment number from the card number and delivery postcode, though on going back to their website I found that putting in the card number and postcode gave the consignment number. And incidentally, although the depot is open on Saturday 8 till 12, there's no option on the arranging a collection part of the redelivery webpage to collect on a Saturday.
8.
Does anyone know where I can buy a skunk stripe?
Iron-on do you? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAHOGANY-VENEER-IRON-ON-EDGING-22MM-WIDE-2-7-METRES-/390440578947 Although you might prefer one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hand-made-Sexy-Skunk-Faux-Fur-Costume-Full-Set-Corset-Skirt-and-Tail-X1106-/330789525249 but you'll have to extract the stripe yourself.
9. A couple of recent points: Interparcel are poor on the communications front. I'm buggered if I'm going to pay them 10p a minute on the phone and they don't respond to email. However, the parcel I had sent, which had had several failed delivery attempts which I wanted to find out about, was handled by UPS who were very helpful when I phoned them. So book with the organ-grinder and talk to the monkey. UK Mail - I've been sent a bass by UK Mail. Had it sent to my home address, and as expected (no-one there in the day) I've been carded. So last night I tried to opt for collecting it next day and, although I could select it on the web page, I then got an error that said I had to choose an alternative delivery date. Tried ringing them as I want to check opening hours of the depot and whether I might be able to pick it up on Saturday, only to be told (last night and several times today so far) that they are experiencing a high call volume. The website shows the location of the depot and gives times that it's open for parcels to be sent, but not when it's open for parcels to be collected. So far, they are actually worse than Yokel, which surely entitles them to some sort of award. More news when I get it all sorted.
10. Stevie Wonder may play good keyboards, but he's crap at designing basses.
11. Bryan Adams on occasion
12. If IE 9 is the answer, you can't possibly be asking the right question.
13. I sold an exploded mixer amp a few weeks ago, buyer paid up straight away, I go his phone number for the courier, then there followed a couple of rather tense weeks. Three attempted deliveries made, they said they'd carded him. I sent him a message and he said no card received, then I saw a redelivery had been arranged so spoke to UPS who told me they were redelivering to xxx House rather than xxx Point and had been given two alternative phone numbers, so I got back in touch with the buyer, gave him the UPS phone number, the reference, and my name (which of course someone posing as him wouldn't have). Then tracking said it had been refused as packaging damaged, sender would be informed. However, I wasn't, another tracking message said refused as recipient didn't want it, then it said he'd picked it up. By this time my head was spinning, and I was very glad to get a message from him saying he'd picked it up. And the feedback I'd got after my spot-on description, marathon arranging and weeks of fretting? "ok".

15. Looking at what were given as the trademark bits in the relevant posting by (IIRC) Kiwi, if all that's shown is the body and there's no mention of the "R" word, there's no trademark infringement as the only trademarks JH laid claim to were the headstock and the "Rickenbacker" truss rod cover.
16. The "gig dates" table could do with changing - the heading "City" appears over the band names, there's an apparently useless "Tickets" column, and no indication of the venue. A possible solution, if you're not putting the venue into that table, is to make the band names clickable to take you to their event pages (which also means people can easily find out what the bands do).
17. The glory of this instrument is simply too great. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ibanez-Btb705dx-Bass-Guitar-/200812150387
18.
Funny that you should mention that. http://www.ebay.co.u...W-/180961649612
Spotted that earlier. I think I read it quite carefully and saw no mention of the scale length this time round - did I miss it or is he carefully concealing the fact that it fundamentally won't work?
19. I sent him a question about it, pointing out that it would work rather better with a fretless neck. His response:
yes your right ...it was designed for a fretless bass...ive played it and its in tune upto 10th fret but like i mentioned in the ad that the bridge can be moved up to the pickup to improve intonation or change the neck...for the price its an amazing piece of kit and a one off size body.
It's nice to know that there's someone out there with even worse cloth ears than me. I reckon it would be a bit over a tone out by the time you got to the 12th fret (the equivalent of fretting a 34" scale bass 15.62" from the nut, in fact, I've just worked it out).
20. With the decline in the fortunes of bees this year due to the heavy rain, and the market being cornered by Mark D Phillips, the price of beeswax is likely to go through the roof.
21.
So can't be played in tune with music, or itself then. And in response to that suggestion:
so exactly what is the scale lenght from top nut to bridge for an upright bass?
Because 20+17 = 42.
Did you point out what is noticeable about the frets on an upright bass?
22.
The advantages might be mainly theoretical but separately connected cabs are the better configuration, for the reasons cited above.
And also because the signal to each speaker only passes through two plug-to-socket connections, rather than one going through two and the other through four. As well as being possible points of failure (as above), they're also likely to be points of higher resistance.
23. Um, has no-one noticed that the scale length is 37"? With an Aria Pro II neck? So it's 17" from nut to 12th fret, 20" from 12th fret to bridge. That should make for interesting intonation.
24. Presumably it used to say "Fender Precision made of 18-carat gold" in the title but it's been changed (revision history shows that, but not what it used o say).
