Should be a good place to find a mechanic.

As I self-identify as 37 years old, I have a YOB Warwick Thumb. I'm just waiting for the age reassignment surgery at the moment.

I've got the 1265MS, the fancy wood version. One of the previous owners had swapped the pickups for Aguilar DCBs and they're fine - I bought it from @lowregisterhead but I think it was the original owner who did the swap.

Well, no, but that's because my band already has a bassist. However, I've encountered both ends of the spectrum of helpfulness - current band are brilliant, I can lift and carry all my gear but there's quite a few bits as it's the PA plus my bass gear (nothing weighs more than 10kg) and they all help loading in and out. There was a band in the past that always managed to turn up later than me so I loaded all the stuff in (I had a heavier PA and bass rig then), then I would sometimes get some help loading out but never from the idle sod of a guitarist. So the answer is that it depends, if you tell them at the outset what help you'll need and also give an idea of your travelling limitations, you'll either find a great bunch of people or, er, you won't. PS. I meant to say that my current band would be perfectly happy to have someone in who needed help with gear, but I'm not leaving... 😁 -
Is there a viable pedalboard poweramp for Bass?
tauzero replied to Zim's topic in General Discussion
Couldn't you just buy a smaller head - plenty of small 500+W heads around. -
Well, yes, mainly because I set up the PA first.

How do you deal with performance nerves/imposter syndrome

Oh, and make sure that you know who your victim will be at the start of each song, so that you can give them a dirty look every time you play a bum note. -

Work out who will be setting the pace then. Beware, it may be you... 😁 -
Well, somebody's had it.

It would appear from his feedback that he's sold 4 instruments in the last year, and one of them may or may not have turned up. I wonder why he bothers.

It's gone already so it quite possibly was.

As you intend to use it mainly for chordal and upper register work, you wouldn't have any disadvantage from a 6 - if the lower strings were more important then a 6 would mean an additional stretch to them but this doesn't seem to be the case from what you say. Also worth looking at second-hand is the Peavey Grind BXP - https://assets.peavey.com/literature/specs/116715_35545.pdf

NBD, it’s from 1993 and everything I’m not known for

Just remembered, there was a benefit to me playing sitting down with a previous band - the rest of the band were so short that despite only being 175cm (0.0086992 furlongs) tall, it was like being Gandalf with a bunch of hobbits. -
Wireless system - Lekato, Boss or something else?
tauzero replied to ots's topic in General Discussion
Operates on UHF, hence the low latency as there's no ADC and DAC conversions happening, but also hence the sound changing as there will be a compressor in the transmitter. The WS-50 and WS-90 are 5.8GHz, and there's the WS-80 at 2.4GHz. -
There's a 5 on Ebay at the moment in need of a bit of repair work: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/326058163819 and another in That London for a bit more but in good nick https://reverb.com/item/80819258-peavey-c-5-zephyr-5-string-bass-guitar

Played at the Half Moon in Littleover, Derby on Saturday. We were a bit worried about the load-in and out as it's double yellows on the street outside and the car park is over the road (and I think is actually the Co-op's). However, the landlady said everybody unloaded on the double yellows so that's what we did. Not an ideal playing space as there's a column 2/3 of the way across which was a bit in the way, but we overcame that. The landlady also gave us free drinks (which we took advantage of without taking the piss), and included Mrs Zero and the drummer's wife in the freebies, which was very nice. On the musical side, I'd been experimenting with the XR12 and put some reverb on, but I couldn't get it dialled in right so abandoned it after a couple of numbers. At least I now know the basics of how to do it. One or two minor fumbles but nothing disastrous. Almost everything went down well - the one exception being Get Lucky which we brought in recently, but both times we've done it it's gone down like a plate of cold sick. I suspect that it's a song that's of its time. Both the guitarists had a long way to travel (2 hours for one of them) but they were really happy with it. Landlady was happy with us so hopefully we'll be back there.

I'm not entirely sure whether what I had was a Zephyr 5 or a C5, or whether they're one and the same. A lovely bass, good looking and excellent build quality, got used on one recording session because the active bass I wanted to use was picking up a fair amount of interference (I was in the control room with an awful lot of electronic equipment around me) whereas this was interference-free. However, the neck was just a bit chunkier than I like so I eventually sold it.

Right, so not an irredeemable bass, just one with certain congenital but operable defects.

I play sitting down, using a Harley Benton stool - https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_guitar_stool.htm Have done for years and never had any comments on it. I do stand up and walk around occasionally but my back gives me serious problems with any significant amount of non-sedentary action. -

Keep it simple on your left hand - you haven't said what genre it is but root-5-octave covers a lot of sins, and for blues [1] use a simple walking bass line (root-3-5-3 will do it). Try to avoid being ploddy with your right hand. You just need to get through it and realise that you can manage it, and it'll be easier next time. [1] For future reference, Folsom Prison Blues is country, not blues. -
I found the two Tripadvisor reviews that mentioned the venue's treatment of bands useful. 😁

1) Nux Mighty Plug into bass, headphones, and music played from Android phone via Bluetooth into Mighty Plug 2) Tascam GB-10 with Lekato wireless for input into headphones 3) DI box into mixer into hi-fi amp and thence headphones or speakers (if Sub Zero isn't working upstairs) - the PC also runs into the mixer

Just curious - are you a slow learner or did you get them in a job lot, or are you like I once was with Trace Elliotts, buy one, think it's rubbish and sell it, then some time later decide to buy another one because you'd forgotten they're rubbish?
