  1. And that's why a headless conversion for the Bingo makes sense.
  2. It's a trade mark and I didn't know where to find the ® symbol. Rickenbacker® - that's better.
  3. There's a way of reducing latency on the MOD Dwarf which employs the parallel processing capability of the unit - basically a signal goes into one effect (or chain of effects), the processing of which is carried out by one processor, then passed via something called Portal to the next effect (or chain of effects) which is processed by a second processor, so the overall latency, instead of being the sum of all the latencies in the chain, is just the greater of the two latencies on the signal chain plus a small overhead (I'm not sure if it's referred to as the critical path, but if you've ever played with Gantt charts, it's the critical path equivalent). https://forum.mod.audio/t/introducing-portal/9329
  4. Yes, Zoom B3n is a good starter. You can switch effects in and out, the effects themselves are pretty good, and switching between patches is quite simple (the B3 that preceded it needed a bit more tapdancing). The freeware Tonelib editor is also very useful (https://tonelib.net/tonelib-zoom.html)
  5. Do the band open mic nights in question run bass through the PA?
  6. I try to find a compromise length because I also play guitar a bit and I fingerpick, for which it's helpful to use nails. I err on the side of shorter though as playing bass strings with my nails sounds really harsh. Main bass plucking finger for me is my forefinger - a broken metacarpal which finished up giving me a slightly shorter and lower forefinger means I tend to stay with one finger rather than alternate.
  7. It's interesting, but it's got too few strings and too many headstocks for me.
  8. Another thing. I mentioned 4+1 headstocks before (as, sadly, we're stuck with headstocks until the dawn of enlightenment). Well, any headstock that has a difference of more than 1 between the number of tuners/machine heads/bits of metal that adjust the string tension is right out, the correct numbers are 2+2 for a 4-string, 3+2/2+3 for a 5-string, 3+3 for a 6-string (although I can't recall ever seeing a bass with six or more strings having a stupid imbalance of tuners/machine heads/bits of metal that adjust the string tension).
  9. I have my doubts about the pre- and post-coital horns.
  10. I wouldn't have thought that that would be patentable. The headstock might be a trademark, like various aspects of R*ckenbackers, but that would encompass the entire headstock shape rather than the 3+1ness of it.
  11. He said they were using Bluetooth, and I thought "what about the latency?" Then it became obvious that latency was the least of his worries.
  12. There's this new Act of Parliament coming in...
  13. Stick-on dots [1] are available. Or use a sharpie for marking maple or bound fretboards. [1] That just reminded me of a Maplin catalogue from many years ago, in which one of the items was "Sick-on feet".
  14. A former band played a few gigs in a couple of pubs in Munich. Those were four 30 minute sets with 30 minute gaps between them. It worked quite well - it got very hot and we were glad of the breaks. No DJ between sets though. Conversely, I've played a gig where we played for 45 minutes or so then a DJ came on for an hour or so, then we returned, and it wrecked the flow.
  15. Not sure if this counts as a gig, but yesterday saw the funeral of a friend, John Benbow, who used to run an open mic night at the Roadhouse in Birmingham. I took Mrs Zero to it, which started her singing in public, and I became the house bassist. After the funeral there was a wake cum open mic night, with various people playing a lot of Lennon/Beatles and Dylan songs (John's favourites), and me getting back together with a guitarist I haven't played with for about 15 years to do a couple of songs. Sadly this means that the only two members of the old house band still extant are the drummer and I, we've lost two lead guitarists plus John.
  16. Do you mean you were just lending me the Variax?
  17. Standard notation has many flaws. There's lots of alternatives to standard notation. You'll have to watch it to find out what comes out on top.
  18. If you haven't got an hour and a quarter to spare, don't start watching this. It's very good.
  19. Pretty uninspiring. And no headlesses.
  20. It's not a new WD-40. It's a contact cleaner sold by WD-40.
  21. I should have checked what was in the marketplace rather than relying on dodgy memory. It's the D4 you need, not the G4. There is (or at least was) a pair a little while ago which wasn't showing as sold.
  22. Only counts if it's Wham! themselves playing it, and there's only 50% of them still extant.
  23. Forgot to mention - while the drummer and I were setting up, we got Whamageddoned. Bah.
