True, but they've already got the different finish bodies for the fixed-scale 150x instruments. It's also a bit surprising that the only fretless is a 5-stringer which makes it even more niche (I speak as a 5-string player who is aware that there are larger numbers of 4-string players out there). The one instrument that they've put a pretty finish on but with Barts is the 1265MS, which shows that they can do it. A 1265F would have me definitely considering failing the abstinence challenge, whereas I find paint finishes a complete turn-off (I realise that this is an entirely subjective and self-centred POV). I assume that the EHB range has been successful as they are enlarging it a bit - I wouldn't think they'd just put a few different finishes out there to try and make an unsuccessful range successful.

ERNIE's first iteration used the noise generated in a neon cold-cathode tube as the basis for its random numbers. https://ernie.virtualcolossus.co.uk/ernie.html The lava lamp one featured in an episode of NCIS where a wall full of lava lamps gets dumped on the floor. Just a random fact.

The documentation for the random() function says that it's a pseudo-random sequence, and if you use the randomSeed() function with the same number, you'll get the same sequence (presumably it's always the same sequence, only the starting point differs). I suspect that it's a sequence intended to avoid repetition so it will give a pretty even distribution, which I presume is your desired outcome. You could assess its suitability just by generating a list of random numbers in your desired range and seeing if they would be suitable.

Severely Cracked finish on a 1975 Olympic White Precision

I can't see much point in sending pictures to Fender. After all, their paint shop has probably changed somewhat over the last 49 years. -
Well, who saw a Stylophone Theremin coming?
tauzero replied to Woodinblack's topic in Other Instruments
Mrs Zero has a theremin squirrelled away somewhere that I bought her for birthday/Christmas - I think it was this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/305344846057. There are a load of a new variety on That Ebay at around £50, eg https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/295896292092 (or £33 from AliExpress, https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004857001691.html). -
Buying straplocks implies that you've bought a bass. Surely nobody would buy a bass without immediately buying straplocks for it?

perhaps? A Youtube search on "music video video wall backdrop" gives various results which may be of use, and a search for "video wall backdrop free" returns a variety of royalty free videos. Somewhat left-field thought here - the Old Grey Whistle Test used to use very old cartoon animations for visual accompaniment to some songs, presumably where a video wasn't available. Might that work as a backdrop? Example here:

Three buttons to change parameters - one to cycle through the parameters on the screen, indicating which is current with a flashing dot by the side of it or flashing the value, and +/- buttons to change the value. Use ezButton to simplify debounce, etc. Have a fourth button for "run". Shouldn't be too intense.

The EHBs only seem to have had a few different finish options added, and that's almost all for the 150x series. No fretless options than the 1005 - no 4-string, no 150x fretless. The 126x remains a single-bass range when it could be expanded to effectively allow the 100x range to have nicer finishes while keeping the lower cost Bart pickups. It seems like a bit of an opportunity missed.

I read @Richard R's post immediately before this one and thought "23/6? That's a really odd time signature".

Truss rod tightens but neck doesn't move
tauzero replied to MoonBassAlpha's topic in Repairs and Technical
I replaced a Variax neck with a Fender clone neck, which required drilling the locating holes for the pins. It was a bit laborious, but I positioned the tuners and tightened the nuts up a little, enough to mark the headstock rear where the pins are, then using a hand drill to drill them. This wasn't a rotary hand drill, it was just basically a chuck, like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/285509780779. I was scared of drilling through the headstock or getting it wonky if I used a power tool and I don't have a rotary hand drill, so this seemed like the best bet. It worked well, took about half an hour altogether. -
Testing/recording cabs 115 112 210 212... all things being equal
tauzero replied to warwickhunt's topic in Amps and Cabs
If you record them in WAV and compress them to 320kHz MP3, that should be pretty much indistinguishable from the WAV. -
That's only Tier 2, I think. Not explicitly bass gear. Like the M-Audio Keystation 49e that arrived yesterday.
-
Admittedly confiscation is a bit extreme (I just thought I'd use a bit of hyperbole), but some form of compulsory purchase should be possible.

Remainder January GAS denial opportunity.

You might want to look at a calendar. -
Testing/recording cabs 115 112 210 212... all things being equal
tauzero replied to warwickhunt's topic in Amps and Cabs
As @stevie says, if you close mic it, you lose any contribution from other drivers and the port. Consider a typical pub gig - the front row of audience (so the ones who are messing up your sound to the people behind them by being big bags of water with cloth wrapped round them) are hopefully at least 2m away from your cab, so you really want to know roughly what it'll sound like to them. A mic at 2-3m distance, and absolutely consistent placement of mic and cab in the room (which ideally should have some soft furnishings) should give some decent recordings. Your idea of using a pre-recorded piece rather than playing the same thing for each cab is a very good one. -
40th Anniversary Precision £259 at Thomann!
tauzero replied to Frank n funker's topic in Bass Guitars
Are they actually buying them, or is that just the price that's being asked? -
It's not their definition of "affordable", it's the government's - something like half a million for a London house. Plus a developer can get exemption from supplying the appropriate number of semi-affordable houses by doing a bit of fiddling - https://neweconomics.org/2022/02/how-private-developers-get-out-of-building-affordable-housing
-
You start by confiscating the empty homes, at least the long-term ones - https://www.bigissue.com/news/housing/how-many-empty-homes-are-there-in-the-uk/. Also remove right to buy, or completely reverse the Thatcher approach of ring-fencing the proceeds of RTB so they specifically couldn't be used to build more social housing (still partly in place) and say that any proceeds from RTB must be used to build replacement social housing, at a ratio of at least one RTB bedroom to one replacement social housing bedroom.

Is this anything to do with the angle that you're plucking the strings at? It sounds like you might be plucking towards the body of the bass (in which case the E string would get in the way as soon as you moved to the A string), rather than pretty much parallel to the face. If it's not a physical stop, I don't know - maybe spend a while just plucking on the A string until you get comfortable with it, then move to the D and G and do the same thing. It sounds a weird sort of blockage though.

Sei fretless - "the Sei fretless" Sei Flamboyant headless - "the headless Sei Flamboyant" Sei Flamboyant headed - "the headed Sei Flamboyant" (occasionally "the Sei Flamboyant 6") Dean 10-string - "the Dean 10-string" You may see a pattern emerging.

You enjoy watching adverts then? (Not applicable to BBC, but all the commercial channels...)

Spot on. Thanks, that's that sorted out then.

I recently bought a Model D secondhand (after @Quatschmacher seemed to have sold his, hence not buying his). Trying to play notes via MIDI, using a keyboard with a 5-pin MIDI output direct into the Model D, the Model D only plays a note on every second keypress - for example, if I press and release C, a C will sound and stop, then if I press C again, nothing, then if I press it again, I get C. This applies whether it's the same key or different keys - a note will only sound on every second keypress. I'm sure this must be some switch setting I have wrong. Does anyone know what is causing this odd behaviour and how to fix it?

Last night I almost got caught out. Expecting an Evri/Herpes delivery, and I got an email saying that an attempt had been made to deliver but there was no answer and provided a link button to go to the portal. I clicked on the button and Avast sounded lots of sirens and warned me off - the URL was a .ph one which I think is Phillippines. I should have spotted the dodgy email address that it came from and also hovered over the link before clicking it but I think the content distracted me, plus me asking why Mrs Zero had missed the knock on the door (I was on the way back from rehearsal at the supposed delivery time). I don't know what it was phishing for but I'm sure it would have wanted some sort of payment or bank account details. I have slapped myself on the wrist.
