  1. I've found the slightly taller stand that worked for me (for a while) - https://www.gak.co.uk/en/ultimate-support-gs-1000-guitar-stand/54625 - the Ultimate Support GS-1000, named after a Suzuki. The reviews on Amazon are mostly positive with a few people having the same experience as me.
  2. Strangely, I thought that too, but I thought it for both the part where the sounds were swapped with their instruments and when they were with the correct instrument. I haven't been back to recheck though.
  3. Don't forget the growth years that the cut of timber spans, as the density of each growth ring will vary year by year depending on weather.
  4. Tamworth hasn't done too badly. http://www.tamworthbands.com/bands/index.htm Most famous are Magnum, Wolfsbane, and Julian Cope.
  5. So, would you claim that you can identify the wood that a bass is made from by sound alone? The wood will affect the sound to some minor degree because it will damp some frequencies more than others, but there are so many factors in that (not just the wood itself but the body shape, the routings, etc) that it's unlikely that any one piece of wood will affect the sound in exactly the same way as any other piece of wood from the same type of tree - in fact, even from the same tree. The effect that the wood has will be dwarfed by the effect of the strings, the pickups, the preamp or tone stack, plectrum or fingers, whether fingernails have been clipped for the fingers players, thickness of plectrum for the plectrum players, even the cable.
  6. Prior to this, it was spread among at least three other subforums of Gear, plus General Discussion.
  7. I had a Warwick Buzzard which has the same problem as I suspect you will find with this - you can't get a stand for it. The Hercules grabber stands aren't quite tall enough. I did find a stand eventually, another grabber type one, but despite being quite expensive it was poor quality and disintegrated after a few months.
  8. The same way that they know that an expensive HDMI cable will give a more vibrant picture with better colours than a cheap one? Has anyone carried out an experiment to find out whether those claiming to discern the sounds of different woods can accurately identify the wood?
  9. Like they used to say of Parcelfarce, "we can lose an elephant and break an anvil".
  10. I mostly use Elites but as I needed a 6-string set of nickels and the only ones in the gauges I wanted were Warwick Red Label, I've gone even cheaper.
  11. It's perfect if you live in a one-dimensional universe.
  12. It sounds like the distortion is from the 2i2 input being overloaded and clipping rather than the pedal.
  13. Decided to shim the neck. arcsin 0.00666667 (lowering strings 4mm over a length of about 600mm) is 0.38 degrees so a 0.5 degree shim will do the job nicely and should be on the way shortly.
  14. Sorry if I came over rather impolitely. There was a consensus (well, three of us agreed). Although @Downunderwonder initially suggested a sub-forum of Amps and Cabs, he later revised this to being directly under Gear but following Amps and Cabs (which was when he changed what he meant by "under" though he did also show what he meant by it). @BigRedX was also of the opinion that it was big enough to be a sub-forum directly under Gear. @Silvia Bluejaysuggested it be a sub-forum of Amps and Cabs. Could anyone else with an opinion please make it known?
  15. Because @Downunderwonder insisted on saying "under Amps and Cabs", that's where @Kiwi has put it. It should be under Gear, a top-level sub-forum, at an appropriate position in the list (which was what Downunderwonder meant by "under" only it's completely the wrong word to use when talking about forum structure as it means "subforum of").
  16. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/393975851286 will invert the polarity if needed. So you either go USB 5V to 9V -> DC connector to PP3 clip or USB 5V to 9V -> polarity changer -> DC connector to PP3 clip
  17. I expected that adaptor to be centre positive as it's for a variety of purposes and it's Boss who are out of step with the rest of the world with the strange idea of centre negative. It was the other adaptor that I was talking about, that goes from the DC connector to the PP3 clip.
  18. Last night was at the Dog Inn in Water Orton. As I pointed out to the others, we can boast something that the top rock bands can't - we know everyone in the audience by name. There was a small group of (I assume) locals who were dancing around in the first half and then went into the other room. I wandered in there when we were most of the way through the second half and tried to get them in, but unfortunately one of them thought I was inviting him to sing. Oh well.
  19. I was born in the late 50s. I've given up trying to work out what categories music is in these days.
  20. It looks like a piece of aluminium sheet cut to shape and drilled. I've done something very similar with some brass sheet.
  21. If it mentions guitar pedal then it'll be for a centre negative connector, like this one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/394854770055
  22. That should do the job. It will probably be centre positive which is something to bear in mind with the DC connector to PP3 adaptor. If you have a multimeter it would be advisable to check the polarity is right before applying the power to the bass.
  23. The issue is that you'll be trying to power a 9V instrument from a 5V power supply, which is the equivalent of an extremely flat battery. You'd need a power bank with a 9V output on it. I have a feeling that @Smanth found a power bank that does that but I can't find it with a quick search.
  24. Lekato MS-1? https://www.gigsandguitars.com/lekato-ms-1-iem-review/
