I thought people stopped doing this after the late 80's? I'm aware of the mod for the 4001/early 4003, but you haven't had to do this to the newer Rics for years.
Correct - 4003's didn't come with the cap for a good few years but lots of people were putting the cap back in(!) so that's why after 2006-ish RIC put the cap back in but controlled via a push/pull knob so the player could decide to use it or not.
I bought one from B&Q that looks close to the link above. It folds up very small. I have a few bungiees that I use to secure items to the truck. The only down side is that when you have tall or many items loaded that are higher than the trolley handles , the items loaded restrict access to the area they your hand wants to be holding onto as the trolley hand grips do not stick out away from the trolley like on fixed shape trucks.
Got one of these too. Cracking little thing. Don't have the problem with the handle height as I'm just humping a 4x10 combo with my pedal bag on top.
sorry thats not a rickenbacker bass , it is a a copy bass. i have been collecting rics for 38 years , that bass is all wrong.
I'd kind of been thinking the same. Funnily enough I couldn't find anything wrong at the body end - it was the fretboard and tuning pegs that started the alarm bells ringing.
-
I don't know exactly...Maybe the fretboard had dot inlays in the past?
That would help to explain the lack of laquer on the fretboard. It's weird that the neck is bound too (and possibly been re-fretted?) - you never see that on a 4000. To go to that amount of work on the neck, then leave the body wings unbound.... Not having a go BTW - Its just its had some interesting mods done to it.

Best Beatles song to play in a pub band?

Hey Bulldog. -
Fotoflames? I liked 'em. The concept bombed but they made some really, really nice basses. Tried a few and none of them were duds.

Would prefer markers on the fretboard meself, and the headstock looks awful.
it also broke down racism to some degree
Yes it did to a certain extent. but at the same time, no it didn't - the Oi! movement soon pegged off a bit later on and bands like Skrewdriver certainly weren't really into positive race relations.
.....Would be Rics too,but saw Youth making a massively brilliant racket with one a few nights ago so temporarily won over.
Hope you were lucky enough to get the whole set from KJ, we got booted out the ABC after just under an hour - power failure knocked out the whole block. No Eighties, no Love Like Blood.

Basses I'll never want to own? Warwicks, Wals, and BC Riches. And the man that mentioned Bongos looking like toilet seats - thanks; that gave me a right good laugh.

Which bassline inspired you to pick up the bass?

Tony Butler Signature Bass - Vintage V4MTB
hairyhaw replied to TransistorBassMan's topic in Bass Guitars
I absolutely hate signature guitars. Its only a sales gimmick for dummies who think that by buying a sig bass will make them play like the person its named after. Funny old world
Hmmm, not sure I agree with this. Geddy Lee Jazz's seem to sell themselves on reputation these days. I mean, having tried one, I'd love one (in sunburst particularly), but I don't listen to Rush so it being a signature is not a factor in my decision. -
i've actually played a few vintage guitars and they're excellent.
+1. Tried a couple and been very impressed. They certainly seem to have their shee-it together. -
Blimey, Mani joins BassChat! And now ...Fumps!!!!!
hairyhaw replied to Clarky's topic in General Discussion
Hey all, looks like the low end of the Stone Roses is now a BC'er (see profile below and his first posts) http://basschat.co.u...598-maniscream/ If you are reading this Mani, great to have you on board and love the bass playing, esp on The Second Coming. Class!
Nice. It was just last night that I was fumbling (more bumbling) through his bass part whilst trying to sing "the messiah is my sister" at the same time. -
But does it matter whether they know the difference between a guitar and a bass? The important thing is did they enjoy the band and will they come and see you play again (and buy some merchandise if you have any)? IMO other musicians make the poorest audience.
Yeah, that's basically my point - muso's are a minority in most audiences. Everyone else is there to hear music, and they don't really give a hoot how it's made either. Its a bit like cars really - some get really excited about engines, tyres etc while most people don't care as long as it looks acceptable and does the job its designed for. Not the best analogy, but there you go.
-
Trouble is that being a muso makes it hard to see things through the eyes of the punter. We forget what its like even though we are punters ourselves.
Well, that's it exactly. When punters talk, they often want to talk songs (in the mistaken belief that because I played a Killers song, I own the entire back catalogue) or they want to know when we're next playing. To be pretty blunt about it, a lot of people that chat to me at gigs can't even make the distinction between a bass guitar or an electric guitar.
-
If it has to be RHCP, then Aeroplane. However, if I was of la femme persuasion, you could probably do your giggity giggity worst to me if you played this: Though it's the chord progression that makes it, it's still one of Mark King's better days at the office.
Can you compare Alex James to Nathan east? Workmanlike?
They inhabit different musical realms but yes, I think I can. And I think I just did.
Good point. Surely describing a bassist who has played a handful of gigs in the last decade and spends most of his time eating cheese as 'workman-like' is a tad insulting to pretty much every working musician out there!
Ah, but I wasn't describing James (who I've described as a fine bassist) as workmanlike - I was describing East, who is also a fine bassist but not one I would rate over AJ with particular regard to bass part composition. Their work schedules are totally different but I wasn't discussing their work ethic either. Its all horses for courses really, isn't it? And who's to say Nathan East isn't fond of a horsing down a slab of Red Leicester in his free time either?
