1. Funnily enough fellow basschatter davemuadib and I spent a geeky afternoon A/Bing cables back to back. We did obbm, (klotz) monster bass, elixir, zaolla, generic cheapo and hotlines. Long story short monster had a VERY obvious, pronounced low mid hump which made em sound deeper and punchier but at the expense of top end sparkle and clarity. Zaolla sounded superb, very neutral and open but with depth and solidity. Obbm sounded very similar to the zaolla, slightly less zingy and airy but very close nonetheless. Just not quite as 'expensive' sounding. The elixir was also good and very flat sounding but a tad uninteresting. The hotlines (old academy of sound cables) were still great I remembered why I liked em. Very punchy and forward sounding, a bit like a loudness button going in.
The zaolla, monster and elixir were thicker and the zaolla felt the best made. The hotlines and obbm cables felt lighter and thinner.
Since doing the test I've retired my monster cables to back ups and bought all obbm's which I'm very pleased with. The transparency goes well with the berg cabs and they are cheaper than zaolla! Also the zaolla crackled at a gig once. And for me that failure onstage once is all I need to drop a cable/bass/amp/pedal from the gig bag!
I still rate monster and never had any issues with them. People that say there are no differences between cables should def spend an afternoon doing some A/B listening to a few brands. It's pretty big differences in some cases, less in others. The biggest difference was the monsters bass boost/(treble cut) to my ears. Maybe Dave will chip in ?
But the differences are there for all to hear! Simply no doubt about that. But onstage with all the rest of the band going ? Well there lies the real debate ;-)
I just like to know my stuff sounds good and is reliable. :-D

2. I like the vertical stacking of my berg 210's on their sides for those tight spaces but I don't want to put them straight to the floor and I'm pretty unsure about screwing into them to add standard rubber feet. Ive got some sorbothane polipods that I've put between them but they are soft and squishy and this means the stack is less solid. Would a wooden or metal hi-fi type foot be a better idea? Obviously a gramma pad would be best but it's not something I'd always want to carry extra.
I was thinking about squishy feet under the head (reduce vibrations going to the electronics and valve base and crucially stop it slipping around!) then some metal isolation feet separating the cabs and under the bottom cab keep it off the floor.
Is seperating the cabs acoustically a bad idea though? They don t neatly lock together vertically, but it's a nice alternative configuration.
Faffing around with loose feet under a cab at set up/strike is probably a silly idea so maybe I should either A) stfu
:) just carefully screw rubber feet in anyway. (tricky to judge as the baffles are recessed)
Or C) just stick it on the floor

Or D) just use em the way they are meant to be stacked!

Thoughts good people! Polipods, solid feet or abc or d!

3. It's that random cab I bought off Parker muse. Not gonna need it after all. It used to be a powered ext cab apparently but now has 2 eminence alpha drivers fitted and is 300w at 4ohms. Pretty light and tiny too. Very handy for leaving places like studios etc.
Come and get it for £50 and it's yours. Can't post I'm afraid.

It's half term this week so it's a good week for meeting!
Or straight swap for something interesting

4. It's not especially fast but playing 'parallel universe' off californication by the red hot chili peppers can help with keeping a nice tight finger tone with even balance between plucks, probably help build up some stamina too. It originally was played with a pick (sounds like it anyway) but I just prefer to play it with fingers.

5. I'm very very interested in these flite cabs. Apart from the website where can I find more about em? Google isn't helping much. The 112b looks good is there a tweeter? Do they have a similar tonal nature to a barefaced midget would you say? (ie loud through mid bite, or sounding 'angry')
My midget t is great but if there's even lighter out there my interest is piqued!

6. I've just found this : http://www.afterdarkmagazine.co.uk/chelten...0live%20@%20TFR

It's very vocal heavy and shot by students I seem to recall, we didn't pay much attention I only found it by accident, I look sooooo tubby! The shirt n trousers look not a good one for me!!

Our proper videos are in the myspace link in my sig.

7. I found my trace ah400smx once back on stage being used running a line out (no speakers connected!?!) into some powered 12" monitor thing, they knew it was mine and had helped themselves without asking, and to add insult had done crazy eq settings and couldn't work out how to get it off mute mode anyway?!!?

I went nuts.

Then they claimed I'd broken theirs?????

I went nuts again.
:)
